All products featured on Architectural Digest are independently selected by our editors. However, we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links. If you’re working from home , investing in one of the best office chairs (and not just a dining chair you’ve put up to the task) will help correct a persistent case of tech neck and maybe even boost your morale—but no promises there. Comfort and ergonomics are important, sure, but because we’re AD , the aesthetics of your desk seating equally matter. Maybe that budget mesh chair you picked up from an office supply store clocks in and does the job every morning, but is it the right culture fit for the very curated aesthetic of your home? Featured in this article Best Overall Branch Verve Chair Read more Best Designhead-Approved Pick Herman Miller Aeron Chair Read more Best Ergonomic Office Chair Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro Read more In This Article: Our Top Picks Comparing Our Favorites More AD-Approved Options Why You Should Trust Us How We Chose How We Tested Branch Ergonomic Pro vs. Article Svelti Office Chair FAQs Over the years that we’ve been testing office chairs, we’ve expanded our search to include a high-low selection that includes wallet-friendly picks, but also household names in the ergonomic space, from Herman Miller to Knoll, that come approved by design lovers like us. Our editors and writers have personally sat on, worked on, and Zoomed from each of these picks and can attest that not only are they attractive, but they will also provide structural support for your bottom and back during the longest meetings in your iCal. Best Overall Branch Verve Chair As a general practice, the armrests on ergonomic office chairs tend to be bulky. Not so with the Branch Verve Chair, which stands out with its curvy S-shaped supports that give it some space-y, extraterrestrial appeal. The Verve is a newer and sportier model from the brand that set out to modernize dated office furniture (from standing desks to seating), and boasts a sleek breathable mesh back and some slender legs with casters for wheeling around the office. Contributor Terri Williams notes that sitting for long periods of time is easy thanks to the V-shaped chair design that provides extra lumbar support. At just a hair shy of $600, this chair is also one of the most affordable picks on the list (so it’s a good fit for most people), and one of the most streamlined if you hate the look of typical corporate chairs. The svelte design is why we chose it as our top pick over the AD editor-beloved Ergonomic Chair Pro below, which might not be as visually appealing to the average person. “I can also adjust the height of the softly-padded armrests, the seat depth, the tilt, the tilt tension, and the padded lumbar support,” Williams says of the extra features here that put it into holy grail territory. Specs Dimensions: 41"H x 27"W x 27"D Materials: 3D knit, foam, and aluminum Weight Capacity: 275 lbs. Colors: Coral, lunar, mist, mint, cobalt, and galaxy Warranty: 7 years Adjustability: Seat height and depth adjustable ✔ Adjustable armrest height ✔ Adjustable lumbar height ✔ Tilt and tilt tension ✔ Upsides Very comfortable for long periods of sitting 3D knit back is breathable and supports posture Sporty look and several color choices Downsides No headrest Not as affordable as other Branch picks on this list Best Designhead-Approved Pick Herman Miller Aeron Chair There’s a reason the Aeron is Herman Miller’s most beloved and recognizable office chair. The iconic design is truly supportive and customizable to fit your ideal comfort zones, with adjustable offerings from the armrests to the seat itself. Contributor ZoĂ« Sessums selected hers after a virtual fitting with an ergonomic expert at Herman Miller, who walked her through all the features. (Herman Miller offers an informative online gallery if you can’t try out a chair in person.) Once the chair was delivered—no assembly required—Sessums came away impressed with the power of the patented PostureFit SL back support, which encourages opening up the chest and shoulders, and tilts the pelvis slightly forward. “This chair will save your body,” she says. “It’s easy to see why people invest in supreme desk setups. I would recommend the Aeron chair again and again.” Most Popular Specs Dimensions: 38œ"H x 25Ÿ"W x 16"D Materials: Aluminum frame and base; 8Z pellicle elastomeric suspension seat and backrest Weight Capacity: 300–350 lbs. (depending on model size) Base colors: Satin aluminum, polished aluminum, and onyx ultra matte Frame colors: Graphite, mineral, and black Warranty: 12 years Adjustability: Height adjustable ✔ Adjustable armrests ✔ Adjustable seat ✔ Upsides So many adjustable elements for a perfect fit Ease of setup Reliability Downsides Steep price point Photo: Audrey Lee Photo: Audrey Lee Photo: Audrey Lee Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro A bad case of tech neck hates to see the Branch Ergo Pro coming. That’s because the chair’s fully customizable support system is calibrated to ensure that your posture is optimized, even during long hours in one fixed position. It offers 14 points of adjustments total (count ’em!) to keep you comfortable, from the seat height to the headrest for those who are blessed with longer limbs. And compared to the original version reviewed above, this one is far cushier on the seat and armrests, with seven additional points of adjustability. It is slightly less svelte and also slightly more expensive than its predecessor, the original Branch Ergonomic , which our tester Williams also loved for its ergonomic design. Each of our editors took a spin on the Branch Ergo Pro (read our full review ) and came away smitten with the adjustability points and glutes support of this “double-stuffed” chair. “I was especially fond of the arm rests that helped me achieve perfect elbow support with my laptop stand and that the adjustable tilt option gave me the freedom to stretch my back out whenever needed,” commerce editor Audrey Lee noted. Most Popular The only drawback is that the Ergo Pro needs assembly out of the box, and the construction process is a bit of a learning curve. Still, everything came together quickly in about 30 minutes or less and was easy enough to complete solo. Since it can be fully disassembled, it’s also a great option for frequent movers. Specs Dimensions: 25”W x 24”D x 38-41.2”H Materials: Flocked Italian double mesh, vegan leather or leather, high-density foam cushion, powder coated aluminum base Weight Capacity : 275 lbs Colors: Mesh: Shore (Off-White), Mineral (Light Grey), Boulder (Dark Grey); Vegan Leather: Light Grey, Brown Black Leather: Brown, Black Warranty: 7 years Adjustability : Height adjustable ✔ Adjustable armrests ✔ Adjustable headrest, adjustable seat ✔ Forward tilt ✔ Upsides Added back support mechanism does a really great job of keeping the lower lumbar region feeling reinforced and makes it harder to slump down (which I appreciated as a chronic sloucher) The Branch Ergo Pro gets high scores in the beauty department: The off-white hue feels more modern than your typical office chair and is an especially great option if you want to match your chair to a lighter colored desk. Easy assembly and compact packaging: The chair arrives compactly while the crystal clear instructions made it incredibly simple to assemble everything (no sweating or googling required) Downsides Difficult to adjust height if you weight less Memory foam cushioning is not very breathable Learning curves with adjustment levers Best Futuristic Office Chair Photo: Audrey Lee Asari Chair by Herman Miller A high price tag comes with great expectations—which the Asari chair met completely. Lee appreciated its attention to detail, which included the soft leather, the perfect amount of foam fill in the seat, and a backrest that makes it a treat to sit down and work. “The chair has noticeably softened in a delightful way that’s ultra-accommodating to my dimensions without feeling too sunken in or too stiff,” she says. Unlike leather executive office chairs that can read harsh or overly corporate, the Asari’s look is unparalleled. Lee “absolutely recommends” this chair to anyone looking to splurge on their home office. From physical appearance to practical use, it scores 10s across the board. Most Popular Specs Dimensions: 37⅞"H x 29⅞"W x 29⅞"D Materials: Powder-coated aluminum, dual-density foam, stow leather upholstery Weight Capacity: 350 lbs. Colors: Raven (black), jettison (blue), Etruscan (coral), clarion (yellow), submerge (teal), knight (dark gray), bulb (light gray), and antler (medium gray) Warranty: 12 years Adjustability: Height adjustable ✔ Upsides Major points for how customizable the design is—available in leather and cloth as well as eight different colors Super supportive, even more so with the full back setup and added headrest Smooth delivery and no set up Downsides Armrests aren’t adjustable Harder side to get stains out of leather Best Affordable Pick Audrey Lee Audrey Lee Haworth Breck Office Chair There’s a lot to like about Haworth’s Breck chair. Lee reported that it arrived swiftly in a large box that was simple to carry inside. The assembly won’t leave you frustrated either. You’ll find instructions on the flaps of the delivery box and Haworth has the same manual available on their website as well as a short video with step-by-step directions. The whole process literally takes less than a couple of minutes before you’re ready to put the chair in action. Don’t be fooled by the easy assembly process, though, as this office chair is more advanced than meets the eye. “I first received the Breck during a heat wave and appreciated the ultra-breathable backrest which allowed a comfortable amount of air to flow through,” says Lee. But it’s all the adjustable features that stand out to her. Need more tilt? No problem. Wish the armrests were just a tad longer? Easy. Height? Seat depth? Lumbar support? Done, done, and done. And while these are all perks you would expect from a high-priced chair that costs over $1,000, the Breck supplies them at under $500. Most Popular Specs Dimensions: 39" to 44"H x 28.5"W x 28.5"D Materials: Plastic, foam, steel Weight Capacity: 325 lbs Warranty : 12 years Adjustability: Adjustable height ✔ Adjustable armrests ✔ Adjustable back ✔ Adjustable seat ✔ Adjustable tilt ✔ Upsides Super customizable: Adjustable arms, seat (height & depth), tilt, and lumbar support for peak comfort Speedy delivery and fast assembly: Less than a few minutes and instructions couldn’t be more clear Great value Downsides Difficult to adjust the height if you aren’t heavy enough to propel the seat down Armrests don’t lock so you may have to readjust them periodically Comparing Our Favorites Bed Frame Material Weight Capacity Warranty Points of Adjustability Branch Verve Chair 3D knit, foam, and aluminum 275 lbs. 7 years 4 Herman Miller Aeron Chair Aluminum frame and base; 8Z pellicle elastomeric suspension seat and backrest 300–350 lbs. (depending on model size) 12 years 3 Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro Flocked Italian double mesh, vegan leather or leather, high-density foam cushion, powder coated aluminum base 275 lbs. 7 years 4 Asari Chair by Herman Miller Powder-coated aluminum, dual-density foam, stow leather upholstery 350 lbs. 12 years 1 Haworth Breck Office Chair Plastic, foam, steel 325 lbs. 12 years 5 Photo: Yelena Moroz Alpert Photo: Yelena Moroz Alpert Eames Molded Plastic Task Armchair with Seatpad Specs Dimensions: 35"H x 26ÂŒ"W x 26ÂŒ"D Materials: Die-cast aluminum base; 100 percent recyclable polypropylene shell, 68% post-consumer recycled polyester and 32% polyester fabric. Shell and seat colors: 22 shell/seat color combinations Base colors: Aluminum Warranty: 5 years Adjustability: Adjustable height ✔ Upsides Customizable colorways Iconic design Durable upholstery Certificate of authenticity Downsides Price May be too snug for tall customers No circulation Most Popular The molded plastic Eames chair’s outsize reputation precedes itself, though it’s more common in a four-legged version than a rolling option on wheels. “I was definitely going for looks when choosing an office chair,” says contributor Yelena Moroz Alpert , who selected one in a deep yellow colorway to match her wallpaper. “But the Task chair proved to be quite comfortable, and I find the smooth swiveling motion soothing as I think when I have writer’s block.” The molded seat feels contained, like a nest. (Alpert has the upholstered model, but it also comes with a separate seat cushion option.) Initially, Alpert thought the upholstery felt a tad rough, but she is now used to it and appreciates the sturdy construction because she does tend to tuck her feet under. The seat depth works great for her size and shape, especially because the waterfall seat offers a natural transition. “I am 5’4” and it’s like this office chair was custom-made for me,” Alpert explains. The seat-height adjustment pneumatic mechanism is easy to maneuver, should you need to elevate or come down, though Alpert does warn that after a couple of hours, her lower back does feel a bit tired. The chair came fully assembled in a large box, so the only setup involved was taking the Eames out of the box and removing the large plastic cover. Photo: Lizzie Soufleris Steelcase Gesture Ergonomic Chair Specs Dimensions: 39.25 - 44.25" H x 22.375" W x 21"D Materials: Leather upholstery, plastic Weight Capacity: 400 pounds Warranty : 12 years Adjustability: Adjustable height ✔ Adjustable armrests ✔ Upsides The leather upholstery is smooth and easy to clean The chair was easy to assemble since it only came with a couple of parts to snap together The highly customizable options to personalize the chair’s upholstery and frame to fit my taste Downsides The backrest is a bit stiff and hard to push back, so it might be less ideal for those who like a relaxed feel to their seating Unboxing was a challenge as the box weighed close to 70 pounds Most Popular For anyone in need of a custom office chair, Steelcase has solutions. Senior commerce editor Nashia Baker settled on this grey leather version from 23 upholstery options, which allow you to choose from peachy pinks, neutrals, and warm leather hues. The overall silhouette is narrower than most, but the armrests are adjustable and the seat has a soft, gentle glide when maneuvered up or down. Even the wheels are smooth when rolling over floors, carpet or tile. “This chair has literally made the trek with me across the CondĂ© Nast office and on various floors, though I haven’t noticed the wheels wearing or jamming in the months I’ve been testing it,” Baker says. With its stable, upright backrest, the seat discourages slouching, but also has enough give for comfortably sitting hour after hour. At over $2,000, it’s definitely an investment, but for all the custom flourishes, Baker says it’s all worth it. Photo: Lizzie Soufleris Fritz Hansen Series 7 Upholstered Office Chair Specs Dimensions: 24"W x 20.5"D x 30.7" - 35.4"H Materials: 9 layers of veneer plus 2 layers of cotton textile and rests on a thin mirrored chrome steel base Weight Capacity: 240 pounds Warranty : Not listed Adjustability: Adjustable height ✔ Upsides The iconic shape and design of it The chrome base, which feels sophisticated but retro The curve and dimension against my back, which improved my posture Downsides Dimensions are not ideal for tall people (and we’d suggest an in-person test run for comfort before purchase) Armrests may be too low for some people Pricey Most Popular It’s not every day you find a chair that makes you feel capable, and yet that’s exactly the effect the Fritz Hansen Series 7 had on our commerce writer Julia Harrison over the course of a few weeks. She notes that it’s a “gorgeous chair” intended primarily for design purposes, as it lacks the adjustable ergonomic features of many other models out there, though its leather and chrome silhouette provided plenty of inspiration for “twirling away writer’s block” nonetheless. She calls it a nice complement to any industrial, Danish, minimalist, or mid-century office environment, with a back that crests under her shoulder blades for support. “If you’re the sort of person that cares very much about the aesthetic of their creative space, this chair is ideal,” Harrison says. “It’s elevated, a hallmark of sophisticated design, a nod to Arne Jacobsen in your home, and—to my frame, anyway—a comfortable chair choice in which I feel, actually, quite powerful in my craft.” Photo: Lizzie Soufleris Vipp 453 Swivel Chair Specs Dimensions: 26.4" L x 26.4" W x 30.5" H Materials: Polished aluminium, aniline leather Warranty : 5 years Adjustability: Adjustable height ✔ Upsides Stylish leather and metal design 360-degree spin Available with castors or floor gliders Downsides Not as comfortable or as adjustable as other picks on this list Back may be too low for taller people Most Popular Associate digital editor Maya Ibbitson compares this sleek metal and leather seat, an extra-padded iteration of Vipp’s original swiveling chair, to wearing peep-toe heels in a sea of basic sneakers: “There are lots of cut outs, so it doesn’t have the support of a pair of Asics, admittedly,” she says. “I took pleasure in type-typing away on my sage-and-green sweetheart while everyone around me is slumped into our office-standard black ergonomics.” The style is just right for a home office in need of something less corporate (“you look super chic by extension”) though Ibbitson admits that the comfort level might not be ideal for everyone, especially if you sit for long hours. “It’s probably good if you’re on the shorter side because the back isn’t very tall—my left lower back muscle started cramping after sitting in this chair for extended periods,” she notes. Still, the perks were palpable. “I loved twirling around in my Vipp, which I’m inclined to refer to as ‘this little thing’ because it’s just so darling. It made me want to sit up straight for the sake of matching its sleekness, so I guess it also functions as a posture corrective.” Why You Should Trust Us Our commitment to bringing you quality seat recs is well documented , and finding an office chair that is comfortable, well-made, and easy on the eyes can make a world of difference in how you feel while you’re sitting in a seemingly endless one-hour meeting. The AD shopping team thoroughly vets items before including them in our roundups, and we test nearly everything we write about—office chairs being no exception. Our writers and editors tested more than 30 chairs combined to pull together these rankings, with only a few making the cut in our best-of list. We’ve yet to find a stylish, non-bulky gaming chair that meets our standard and several other generic Amazon picks just didn’t feel elevated enough to hit our list of chairs that would suit a design lover— though they may tick the boxes from a purely practical standpoint. Our reviews are also always thorough, in-depth, and honest, even when we’re noting how a chair may have fallen short. The Selection Process: How We Chose These Weary remote workers can rest assured that every pick on this list has been hand-picked and personally vetted by us. Our well-rounded list includes designhead-approved picks (Herman Miller! Knoll! Steelcase!) with more approachable best-sellers on Amazon (like Branch) sprinkled in, with top priority going to picks that had a warranty of at least seven years and merged great design with adjustability and comfort. Over the years we’ve been testing these, we also delisted picks from Article, Haworth, Herman Miller, Flash Furniture, Steelcase, Flexispot, and Humanscale that either felt not ergonomic enough for an office setting or didn’t feel like the most superlative choice for their price bracket compared to their peers. The Article Svelti is armless, for example, while the Steelcase Gesture had a stiff backrest and a tedious assembly process. An older version of the Branch Ergonomic has been replaced with the brand new Branch Ergonomic Pro that was tested by several of our editors. We also overhauled this article in September 2025 for our fifth annual Seat Week , adding a few more stylish picks that we tested. How We Tested These Office Chairs Our editors and contributors tested these at AD headquarters and within their home offices to test their mettle, recording their takeaways after at least a month (in most cases, several months) of sitting, rolling, and . Each of our testers was looking at a very specific set of criteria outlined below: Most Popular Delivery and assembly: Straight out the gate, did the chair arrive within the guaranteed delivery window? And if you had to assemble it, was it relatively easy to do so or did it come with a tough-to-parse manual and 100 parts? Dimensions: Apartment dwellers know better than anyone that being conservative with floor real estate isn’t a want, but a need. That’s why our reviews provide exact measurements for the styles we tested and any notes on whether we thought a chair might not be a good fit (literally) for a modest-sized workspace. Rating the experience: A chair that’s both easy on the eyes and tush is our number one priority. What was your first impression of the chair? Does the design fit a clear aesthetic? Is it meant to be ergonomic? How do the materials perform, and do they seem durable? How did you feel after a full work day and week? Does it include any fun details that may not be obvious at first glance? Our reviews were crafted to give insight on why a chair could be the right one for your 40-hour work week. What to keep in mind : Everyone has different ideas of perfection—which is why each chair also has a section detailing what a potential buyer should keep in mind. For example, if assembly was particularly difficult, if the chair had special care instructions, and if the design seemed polarizing, we made note of all that. Branch Ergonomic Pro vs. Article Svelti Office Chair FAQs What features should I look for in an office chair? Our experts—TikTok’s favorite neurosurgeon, Betsy Grunch, MD, FAANS, FACS and Gainesville Physical Therapy's Kristy Basinger PT, CHT —agree that your back rest should be made from breathable material such as mesh for better air circulation, decreased perspiration, and greater comfort overall. Your seat is another important component for gluteal support that should have adequate padding consisting of dense foam or similar materials. Adjustability for different body types is crucial no matter which new chair you choose, so you can ensure your feet are positioned flat on the floor and arms set at a 90-degree angle. Why are office chairs so expensive? Like any investment piece of furniture , you get what you pay for. There’s a lot of science that goes into crafting a comfortable and supportive office chair that you can actually be productive in. Ergonomic design , smooth movement, textiles, and manufacturing costs all combine to set the price point. Office chairs are so expensive because you’re not only investing in a chair , but also making an investment in your physical health. We spend at least eight hours a day in these seats, and they can dramatically affect our posture, joint health, and mobility. You may not notice the benefits of a great office chair, but you’ll definitely remember your discomfort in a bad one. Of course, there are budget-friendly options, like the Haworth Breck chair that we tested, which comes in above $400. How long do office chairs typically last? High-quality office chairs typically last between seven and 10 years, which is why we prioritized picks that offer a lengthy warranty to cover the majority of this period. Cheaper office chairs have a much shorter lifespan, typically just a few years. Non-performance fabrics and leather seats will show their age more than performance materials that are better equipped to handle stains, scratches, and general wear and tear. You’ll know it’s time for a new seat when the customizable features—such as armrests, height, and seat position—start to wear out and aren’t as easy to adjust. What are the differences between office chair styles? Task: As the name suggests, task chairs are designed for specific tasks. Think of these chairs as short-term, minimal seating for quick bursts of work. They often have a less padded, simpler design and less support than true ergonomic office chairs that are designed for full days. Branch describes these seats as, “Task chairs embrace simplicity in their design, often characterized by a streamlined appearance. They prioritize functionality over excess features, aiming to deliver a no-frills seating solution that's easy to maneuver and adjust.” In this list, the Fritz Hansen Series 7 chair is a high-design task chair. Executive: An executive office chair typically features a plush seat, high back, and ample spine support to keep you comfortable throughout the entire workday. You’ll find that these chairs offer more adjustment points and customization, like the 14 points on the Branch Ergonomic Pro we tested. Executive chairs come in a variety of materials and silhouettes, from Herman Miller’s signature Eames Aluminum Group chair to the brand’s more futuristic Aeron chair . Gaming: The most specific type of office chair, gaming chairs have a very distinct shape. Usually with wide shoulders and an ultra-high back that supports your head and neck, gaming chairs prioritize lounge-style comfort without sacrificing ergonomic support. Most include a neck pillow and a lumbar pillow for additional padding and support. While the back is not as adjustable as some office chairs, gaming chairs offer additional customization points on the armrests and base.

Maybe that budget mesh chair you picked up from an office supply store clocks in and does the job every morning, but is it the right culture fit for the very curated aesthetic of your home? ## Featured in this article [![Branch Verve office chair that is blue and mesh](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/64e6ed73c71d4639cc54d401/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/slide_7.jpg)](https://cna.st/p/CGor3C5hZhZCvYg7GtS3QNKQzHky78NwJXb6YPs8W1iaEaS88eu6HEPjg5orU1XSa3Ty8txWLwYt8t4v9P4jutu2hJQPDLJa4n1jNntXxUiKNVpNhGGgr1uRfc92Kys84e91aPKKDw6J4JrJrZMyf3WTc5PG8PbGPh2Mt1Lzcq5mtXRRX6NatpEcd8qzG3XEi9udne7Hh3DSA69HuawDgD2NBz67YdnxmqbE63oCbeMGDfEn64v7skzHceLF7JE6STZaumhpNgj3LQUPUNrLD7EYMoXqgzdSvaJ4fQRQ5PBFpqR8c8ujJ7SN2Z6kDdhqACceU9W3Xzs7Ecgh4mHqqz64VLjbUsCxWVvPHU9rGUqbick5Qtc5eBmmSg2sNPitNjZJvqoPLooFuoFoPmjyfmbFGTnLeNXHYRJbJb7QQRsnhng13k2RAqyfKYUE2PVKss3fXxm4TgTcKTPzZhwuqoDwmCfFKDvxfDtwHhaHNP9FS) Best Overall Branch Verve Chair [Read more](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#632a95a7cb170a2f3101fcbd) [~~\$599~~ \$539 (10% off) Branch](https://cna.st/p/CGor3C5hZhZCvYg7GtS3QNKQzHky78NwJXb6YPs8W1iaEaS88eu6HEPjg5orU1XSa3Ty8txWLwYt8t4v9P4jutu2hJQPDLJa4n1jNntXxUiKNVpNhGGgr1uRfc92Kys84e91aPKKDw6J4JrJrZMyf3WTc5PG8PbGPh2Mt1Lzcq5mtXRRX6NatpEcd8qzG3XEi9udne7Hh3DSA69HuawDgD2NBz67YdnxmqbE63oCbeMGDfEn64v7skzHceLF7JE6STZaumhpNgj3LQUPUNrLD7EYMoXqgzdSvaJ4fQRQ5PBFpqR8c8ujJ7SN2Z6kDdhqACceU9W3Xzs7Ecgh4mHqqz64VLjbUsCxWVvPHU9rGUqbick5Qtc5eBmmSg2sNPitNjZJvqoPLooFuoFoPmjyfmbFGTnLeNXHYRJbJb7QQRsnhng13k2RAqyfKYUE2PVKss3fXxm4TgTcKTPzZhwuqoDwmCfFKDvxfDtwHhaHNP9FS) [![An Aeron office chair that is black and mesh](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/64e6e7de30d138918394e3dc/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/slide_14.jpg)](https://cna.st/p/2SQUXCr65hrUREtmEd5Cf6tuBmCWvpp93QoDkv7qc1WoAYkhiaBX2Qe66J1wcG3VP5joCdzAMzLE4CEjvAS1MQTVQKtZFyA5TF2qMjcM46oKqBPvSFvRzmY3fPp6EjqsCB34nffTKgP7KS4MNKUSmYa57LVAffG86JWar3DhLNBrN3RCupM5wiKudu9nV28pSy4nqoAzaaHUPzLUij22ZokuiuBxJvtrJikGgcAKTfg9nsAycY9bjLJWcE5npsLJwtTNwCqNyY46A76Xpz6jHW7z2mdY3otQQ7yLrqpnMMMnGpQMvYxd6DSuhGBH1pNKMtVTYaiyetdmHnLxSn4dD9XjELMNCZ4hbZFjmFMfcPuGhEgRVmj3zFs3r7gbgVojYxe848uHqBBq3qD67TzmdmqRzsPLJWU5132c3KsP1SXryn9Yp4nR2NLxLFuuDV4GfQcYCnN6ip) Best Designhead-Approved Pick Herman Miller Aeron Chair [Read more](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#617b035d37a0ea8480170eb1) [\$2,050 Design Within Reach](https://cna.st/p/2SQUXCr65hrUREtmEd5Cf6tuBmCWvpp93QoDkv7qc1WoAYkhiaBX2Qe66J1wcG3VP5joCdzAMzLE4CEjvAS1MQTVQKtZFyA5TF2qMjcM46oKqBPvSFvRzmY3fPp6EjqsCB34nffTKgP7KS4MNKUSmYa57LVAffG86JWar3DhLNBrN3RCupM5wiKudu9nV28pSy4nqoAzaaHUPzLUij22ZokuiuBxJvtrJikGgcAKTfg9nsAycY9bjLJWcE5npsLJwtTNwCqNyY46A76Xpz6jHW7z2mdY3otQQ7yLrqpnMMMnGpQMvYxd6DSuhGBH1pNKMtVTYaiyetdmHnLxSn4dD9XjELMNCZ4hbZFjmFMfcPuGhEgRVmj3zFs3r7gbgVojYxe848uHqBBq3qD67TzmdmqRzsPLJWU5132c3KsP1SXryn9Yp4nR2NLxLFuuDV4GfQcYCnN6ip) [![Image may contain: Cushion, Home Decor, Chair, Furniture, and Headrest](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/67c2317a4009df7e6c290994/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/Main%2520Product%2520Photo%2520Crop%2520Templates-1-CP%2520Products%2520\(11\).jpeg)](https://cna.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) Best Ergonomic Office Chair Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro [Read more](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#67c2310db0195ad988dbe77e) [\$499 Amazon](https://cna.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) [Show more]() 3 / 5 **In This Article:** AccordionItemContainerButton - Not so with the Branch Verve Chair, which stands out with its curvy S-shaped supports that give it some space-y, extraterrestrial appeal. The Verve is a newer and sportier model from the brand that set out to modernize dated office furniture (from standing desks to seating), and boasts a sleek breathable mesh back and some slender legs with casters for wheeling around the office. Contributor [Terri Williams](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/contributor/terri-williams) notes that sitting for long periods of time is easy thanks to the V-shaped chair design that provides extra lumbar support. At just a hair shy of \$600, this chair is also one of the most affordable picks on the list (so it’s a good fit for most people), and one of the most streamlined if you hate the look of typical corporate chairs. The svelte design is why we chose it as our top pick over the *AD* editor-beloved Ergonomic Chair Pro below, which might not be as visually appealing to the average person. “I can also adjust the height of the softly-padded armrests, the seat depth, the tilt, the tilt tension, and the padded lumbar support,” Williams says of the extra features here that put it into holy grail territory. **Specs** AccordionItemContainerButton - **Dimensions:** 41"H x 27"W x 27"D - **Materials:** 3D knit, foam, and aluminum - **Weight Capacity:** 275 lbs. - **Colors:** Coral, lunar, mist, mint, cobalt, and galaxy - **Warranty:** 7 years **Adjustability:** - Seat height and depth adjustable ✔ - Adjustable armrest height ✔ - Adjustable lumbar height ✔ - Tilt and tilt tension ✔ **Upsides** AccordionItemContainerButton - Very comfortable for long periods of sitting - 3D knit back is breathable and supports posture - Sporty look and several color choices **Downsides** AccordionItemContainerButton - No headrest - Not as affordable as other Branch picks on this list ## Best Designhead-Approved Pick [![An Aeron office chair that is black and mesh](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/64e6e7de30d138918394e3dc/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/slide_14.jpg)](https://cna.st/p/2SQUXCr65hrUREtmEd5Cf6tuBmCWvpp93QoDkv7qc1WoAYkhiaBX2Qe66J1wcG3VP5joCdzAMzLE4CEjvAS1MQTVQKtZFyA5TF2qMjcM46oKqBPvSFvRzmY3fPp6EjqsCB34nffTKgP7KS4MNKUSmYa57LVAffG86JWar3DhLNBrN3RCupM5wiKudu9nV28pSy4nqoAzaaHUPzLUij22ZokuiuBxJvtrJikGgcAKTfg9nsAycY9bjLJWcE5npsLJwtTNwCqNyY46A76Xpz6jHW7z2mdY3otQQ7yLrqpnMMMnGpQMvYxd6DSuhGBH1pNKMtVTYaiyetdmHnLxSn4dD9XjELMNCZ4hbZFjmFMfcPuGhEgRVmj3zFs3r7gbgVojYxe848uHqBBq3qD67TzmdmqRzsPLJWU5132c3KsP1SXryn9Yp4nR2NLxLFuuDV4GfQcYCnN6ip) Save to wishlist ### Herman Miller Aeron Chair [\$2,050 Design Within Reach](https://cna.st/p/2SQUXCr65hrUREtmEd5Cf6tuBmCWvpp93QoDkv7qc1WoAYkhiaBX2Qe66J1wcG3VP5joCdzAMzLE4CEjvAS1MQTVQKtZFyA5TF2qMjcM46oKqBPvSFvRzmY3fPp6EjqsCB34nffTKgP7KS4MNKUSmYa57LVAffG86JWar3DhLNBrN3RCupM5wiKudu9nV28pSy4nqoAzaaHUPzLUij22ZokuiuBxJvtrJikGgcAKTfg9nsAycY9bjLJWcE5npsLJwtTNwCqNyY46A76Xpz6jHW7z2mdY3otQQ7yLrqpnMMMnGpQMvYxd6DSuhGBH1pNKMtVTYaiyetdmHnLxSn4dD9XjELMNCZ4hbZFjmFMfcPuGhEgRVmj3zFs3r7gbgVojYxe848uHqBBq3qD67TzmdmqRzsPLJWU5132c3KsP1SXryn9Yp4nR2NLxLFuuDV4GfQcYCnN6ip) [\$2,050 Herman Miller](https://cna.st/p/aZVusrPUqGnXdL5HqzpLwxSktXFzrYtmJS7dr3EXtzEpMMyBYrbdaTk9DVXDH9DMrJroF6SXEihWy25Jh2a6bqnbxQUexyQDUMkM5LXdw2PmQ8ca4fnoeWmfB4oUCqxhFA9DQwu44aNTDsGVHAjsVME4AKe8dVwdpbUUzrCGoYe6gixTKejGgpGFczTGFJgCAxgeEeEmUrJyEfFKJF5fwnBorCmhQM83Hi2CabgjqXN4X5UuZ9WJHZy6p1tEpFNXSoQ4DiCSkFP3eoHSMRyLZzHgX3aFHdTj3zQBPhbR1urAdrJKbKkujeK7J2HcJvCdfwUCK6GFw27ctSDSpD2UVzyT3Ciggnf7WcxrCSPJct3h6kKENSsM4aH3eXr4EGEzyYkUeK2UoJofmLLTQAvz5gBkXJxFSS1kiwqnZ3QANMuD1PK9nrirFcmqZVPtjVzwGmxenK7S4toBqaprcuKqhQDALRDggSGs1yAvFqM6A8) There’s a reason the Aeron is Herman Miller’s [most beloved](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/this-is-the-absolute-best-home-office-desk-chair-according-to-top-designers) and recognizable office chair. The iconic design is truly supportive and customizable to fit your ideal comfort zones, with adjustable offerings from the armrests to the seat itself. Contributor [ZoĂ« Sessums](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/contributor/zoe-sessums) selected hers after a virtual fitting with an ergonomic expert at Herman Miller, who walked her through all the features. I would recommend the Aeron chair again and again.” Most Popular - [![The Spring-Cleaning Checklist You Need to Fully Refresh Your Home](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/63f67f8cad3126c6b7842209/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/spring-cleaning-checklist-our-complete-guide-to-a-total-home-refresh#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) AD-it-Yourself [The Spring-Cleaning Checklist You Need to Fully Refresh Your Home](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/spring-cleaning-checklist-our-complete-guide-to-a-total-home-refresh#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Kelly Dawson - [![These Are the 10 Most Expensive Cities in the World](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/65a7e9191604dfaa0a592e25/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/the-most-expensive-cities-in-the-world-see-the-top-10#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) Travel [These Are the 10 Most Expensive Cities in the World](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/the-most-expensive-cities-in-the-world-see-the-top-10#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Amelia Mularz - [![Pink Buys \$21.5 Million Greenwich Village Townhouse With a Rich Artistic History](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/69d95cf541accbbd8f7e2dfc/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/pink-buys-greenwich-village-townhouse-with-a-rich-artistic-history#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) Celebrity Real Estate [Pink Buys \$21.5 Million Greenwich Village Townhouse With a Rich Artistic History](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/pink-buys-greenwich-village-townhouse-with-a-rich-artistic-history#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Katie Schultz **Specs** AccordionItemContainerButton - **Dimensions:** 38œ"H x 25Ÿ"W x 16"D - **Materials:** Aluminum frame and base; 8Z pellicle elastomeric suspension seat and backrest - **Weight Capacity:** 300–350 lbs. Still, everything came together quickly in about 30 minutes or less and was easy enough to complete solo. Since it can be fully disassembled, it’s also a great option for frequent movers. **Specs** AccordionItemContainerButton - **Dimensions:** 25”W x 24”D x 38-41.2”H - **Materials:** Flocked Italian double mesh, vegan leather or leather, high-density foam cushion, powder coated aluminum base - **Weight Capacity**: 275 lbs - **Colors:** Mesh: Shore (Off-White), Mineral (Light Grey), Boulder (Dark Grey); Vegan Leather: Light Grey, Brown Black Leather: Brown, Black - **Warranty:** 7 years **Adjustability**: - Height adjustable ✔ - Adjustable armrests ✔ - Adjustable headrest, adjustable seat ✔ - Forward tilt ✔ **Upsides** AccordionItemContainerButton - Added back support mechanism does a really great job of keeping the lower lumbar region feeling reinforced and makes it harder to slump down (which I appreciated as a chronic sloucher) - The Branch Ergo Pro gets high scores in the beauty department: The off-white hue feels more modern than your typical office chair and is an especially great option if you want to match your chair to a lighter colored desk. - Easy assembly and compact packaging: The chair arrives compactly while the crystal clear instructions made it incredibly simple to assemble everything (no sweating or googling required) **Downsides** AccordionItemContainerButton - Difficult to adjust height if you weight less - Memory foam cushioning is not very breathable - Learning curves with adjustment levers ## Best Futuristic Office Chair - [![](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/6509dce83f1cae3f512a6480/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/My%2520project%2520-%25202023-09-19T133949.456.png)]() - [![Blue desk chair at a wood desk with artwork over it.](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/69614fcd7a43b52112f12ea9/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/IMG_8072.jpg)]() Photo: Audrey Lee Save to wishlist ### Asari Chair by Herman Miller [\$1,555 DWR](https://cna.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) [\$1,555 Herman Miller](https://cna.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) A high price tag comes with great expectations—which the Asari chair met completely. Lee reported that it arrived swiftly in a large box that was simple to carry inside. The assembly won’t leave you frustrated either. You’ll find instructions on the flaps of the delivery box and Haworth has the [same manual](https://cna.st/affiliate-link/2qdfcznXFEUkJpx2AZbTVL8huSCGCbqPvhZbdyNjvo5FJYKtq5m3gEfhv697M1KB96Mx31CSs5555zysGTkgcKyzbDmY2APnGDXbYcHoBLKvV2ELQrFpT47NukNKmS62hHHKgkx1QA9kmkXXdvaRiSMYfoAr6EVdR65STGeRfxt9AVtJE14qTqif81BK9KR8vNNvjcu3gogivWmNUQcYKEDMTsA4oLksp5HeJzxHQB1jCyDFwvFPzrxmpy8KaU3nfQ1zEES4bE6FNnzdjuxHPWzNtFnjXkQWpa4LAUFiP8MwyxkUNXrgfdMGQE7FKq1CwoaM6cPiMtaDekCvx5S5U476VAcGF9YxHhb1RU4d8aRprN6S3cYTPnq2) available on their website as well as a [short video](https://vimeo.com/974323024/386be5936a?share=copy) with step-by-step directions. And while these are all perks you would expect from a high-priced chair that costs over \$1,000, the Breck supplies them at under \$500. - [![Gesture Ergonomic Chair](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/68a75d68ec75b89b3305696b/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/AD%2520Product%2520Image%2520-%25202025-08-21T125433.009.png)]() - [![Person sitting in a Steelcase Gesture Ergonomic Chair.](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/68b1fc41d60b90f2d72f88ce/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/AD_SeatWeek0879_.jpg)]() Photo: Lizzie Soufleris Save to wishlist ### Steelcase Gesture Ergonomic Chair [\$1,499 Amazon](https://cna.st/p/CGor3C5hZhZCvYg7GtS3QNKQzHky78NwJXb6YPs8W1iaEaS88eu6HEPjg5orU1XSZw6qMuz74LBjssJ2zvonJ1UhAUDoT15oFt73CSD4DsLsPDYrxoZttXWkQtdFAWgZCoLbtddKqmU4s1DRenANtxXoPnZEoTtm4e5LYwpY3u4vBnfJ33SfY5BhgrcV62Keux5X9BQyBW7a4gHkuaJgGCYUz7cya9q9yC48KYs8k9oitvBNjiet6b227LVb1Beccejf1A3CiShmePTSsNJRDJwbquJaZfobeimzVTLQB9meL46KGxJg3CAFo4sKGFKjG6Kd1dibisy9JLvPvEWvNBQwkMpvtdd22vQUP53fCBYe7frXdgQdjuAz8pwiHWduy6qj92Xr1s5FVkWdDcB6xg5jxokaBdZs8o7jLfmZwLpJPsx3nZrYrkhV9SfxoddaNxCUQTa29N93G8S7abgHkZWXBzY583xsaomNd9jLbMjbi) **Specs** AccordionItemContainerButton - **Dimensions:** 39.25 - 44.25" H x 22.375" W x 21"D - **Materials:** Leather upholstery, plastic - **Weight Capacity:** 400 pounds - **Warranty**: 12 years **Adjustability:** - Adjustable height ✔ - Adjustable armrests ✔ **Upsides** AccordionItemContainerButton - The leather upholstery is smooth and easy to clean - The chair was easy to assemble since it only came with a couple of parts to snap together - The highly customizable options to personalize the chair’s upholstery and frame to fit my taste **Downsides** AccordionItemContainerButton - The backrest is a bit stiff and hard to push back, so it might be less ideal for those who like a relaxed feel to their seating - Unboxing was a challenge as the box weighed close to 70 pounds Most Popular - [![The Spring-Cleaning Checklist You Need to Fully Refresh Your Home](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/63f67f8cad3126c6b7842209/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/spring-cleaning-checklist-our-complete-guide-to-a-total-home-refresh#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) AD-it-Yourself [The Spring-Cleaning Checklist You Need to Fully Refresh Your Home](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/spring-cleaning-checklist-our-complete-guide-to-a-total-home-refresh#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Kelly Dawson - [![These Are the 10 Most Expensive Cities in the World](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/65a7e9191604dfaa0a592e25/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/the-most-expensive-cities-in-the-world-see-the-top-10#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) Travel [These Are the 10 Most Expensive Cities in the World](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/the-most-expensive-cities-in-the-world-see-the-top-10#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Amelia Mularz - [![Pink Buys \$21.5 Million Greenwich Village Townhouse With a Rich Artistic History](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/69d95cf541accbbd8f7e2dfc/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/pink-buys-greenwich-village-townhouse-with-a-rich-artistic-history#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) Celebrity Real Estate [Pink Buys \$21.5 Million Greenwich Village Townhouse With a Rich Artistic History](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/pink-buys-greenwich-village-townhouse-with-a-rich-artistic-history#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Katie Schultz For anyone in need of a custom office chair, Steelcase has solutions. Senior commerce editor [Nashia Baker](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/contributor/nashia-baker) settled on this grey leather version from 23 upholstery options, which allow you to choose from peachy pinks, neutrals, and warm leather hues. “It’s elevated, a hallmark of sophisticated design, a nod to Arne Jacobsen in your home, and—to my frame, anyway—a comfortable chair choice in which I feel, actually, quite powerful in my craft.” - [![](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/68b1cc1ba1faefbd0591bab0/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/Main%2520Product%2520Photo%2520Crop%2520Templates-1-CP%2520Products%2520\(1\).jpeg)]() - [![Person sitting in a Vipp 453 Swivel Chair.](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/68b1fbdb85ad3519e63d75c1/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/AD_SeatWeek0710_.jpg)]() Photo: Lizzie Soufleris Save to wishlist ### Vipp 453 Swivel Chair [\$1,875 Vipp](https://cna.st/p/MgaCFB1RTUyLpGHH2ksRxpb3VCZNxzQs8QD6ekWFkyFLCX85p1EgRtGC49JncaReVG7792gnxzvQa6t7B2HQDdxhLGJ6fyAotKc7QJmkKpaBRMP8dCLsW7EeqQhfmVP7yVoympmVGyJLoJ4e6rkyuubmuehuwARMjYsdHxx218MeceuZrgymbi15mfySCgun96PPz3rKdoKCXdim3zt2EKmheEADDXvT46Y5taBy27U86eLgTCc8eyiJihs4ETtTqUTEfp3QY96PyXGbHDYg376RHUuPCRDKtXKdFKJbrqc3MnfZR7uXqvLLLMnvsshvhV2oQJRUZSUP912GJFLo9PHejPwZhSaaizjQtBRR2jAA9hVyBntveGxy6HZAEaB4Wxjc6JLDzNT83FTEktfQwLNyseHt54H6YUNkNHsM9Jk4P4oPdoyhRPnmX9rb5f6cdGgKvW7XkaBMVyqkTySHtmr) **Specs** AccordionItemContainerButton - **Dimensions:** 26.4" L x 26.4" W x 30.5" H - **Materials:** Polished aluminium, aniline leather - **Warranty**: 5 years **Adjustability:** Adjustable height ✔ **Upsides** AccordionItemContainerButton - Stylish leather and metal design - 360-degree spin - Available with castors or floor gliders **Downsides** AccordionItemContainerButton - Not as comfortable or as adjustable as other picks on this list - Back may be too low for taller people Most Popular - [![The Spring-Cleaning Checklist You Need to Fully Refresh Your Home](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/63f67f8cad3126c6b7842209/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/spring-cleaning-checklist-our-complete-guide-to-a-total-home-refresh#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) AD-it-Yourself [The Spring-Cleaning Checklist You Need to Fully Refresh Your Home](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/spring-cleaning-checklist-our-complete-guide-to-a-total-home-refresh#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Kelly Dawson - [![These Are the 10 Most Expensive Cities in the World](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/65a7e9191604dfaa0a592e25/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/the-most-expensive-cities-in-the-world-see-the-top-10#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) Travel [These Are the 10 Most Expensive Cities in the World](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/the-most-expensive-cities-in-the-world-see-the-top-10#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Amelia Mularz - [![Pink Buys \$21.5 Million Greenwich Village Townhouse With a Rich Artistic History](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/69d95cf541accbbd8f7e2dfc/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/pink-buys-greenwich-village-townhouse-with-a-rich-artistic-history#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) Celebrity Real Estate [Pink Buys \$21.5 Million Greenwich Village Townhouse With a Rich Artistic History](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/pink-buys-greenwich-village-townhouse-with-a-rich-artistic-history#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Katie Schultz Associate digital editor [Maya Ibbitson](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/contributor/maya-ibbitson) compares this sleek metal and leather seat, an extra-padded iteration of Vipp’s original swiveling chair, to wearing peep-toe heels in a sea of basic sneakers: “There are lots of cut outs, so it doesn’t have the support of a pair of Asics, admittedly,” she says. It made me want to sit up straight for the sake of matching its sleekness, so I guess it also functions as a posture corrective.” *** ## Why You Should Trust Us Our commitment to bringing you quality seat recs is [well documented](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/24-best-accent-chairs), and finding an office chair that is comfortable, well-made, and easy on the eyes can make a world of difference in how you feel while you’re sitting in a seemingly endless one-hour meeting. The *AD* shopping team thoroughly vets items before including them in our roundups, and we test nearly everything we write about—office chairs being no exception. ## The Selection Process: How We Chose These Weary remote workers can rest assured that every pick on this list has been hand-picked and personally vetted by us. Our well-rounded list includes designhead-approved picks (Herman Miller! Knoll! Steelcase!) with more approachable [best-sellers on Amazon](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-on-amazon) (like Branch) sprinkled in, with top priority going to picks that had a warranty of at least seven years and merged great design with adjustability and comfort. We also overhauled this article in September 2025 for our fifth annual [Seat Week](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/shopping/seat-week), adding a few more stylish picks that we tested. ## How We Tested These Office Chairs Our editors and contributors tested these at *AD* headquarters and within their home offices to test their mettle, recording their takeaways after at least a month (in most cases, several months) of sitting, rolling, and . Each of our testers was looking at a very specific set of criteria outlined below: Most Popular - [![The Spring-Cleaning Checklist You Need to Fully Refresh Your Home](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/63f67f8cad3126c6b7842209/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/spring-cleaning-checklist-our-complete-guide-to-a-total-home-refresh#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) AD-it-Yourself [The Spring-Cleaning Checklist You Need to Fully Refresh Your Home](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/spring-cleaning-checklist-our-complete-guide-to-a-total-home-refresh#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Kelly Dawson - [![These Are the 10 Most Expensive Cities in the World](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/65a7e9191604dfaa0a592e25/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/the-most-expensive-cities-in-the-world-see-the-top-10#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) Travel [These Are the 10 Most Expensive Cities in the World](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/the-most-expensive-cities-in-the-world-see-the-top-10#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Amelia Mularz - [![Pink Buys \$21.5 Million Greenwich Village Townhouse With a Rich Artistic History](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/69d95cf541accbbd8f7e2dfc/1:1/w_120%2Ch_120%2Cc_limit/undefined)](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/pink-buys-greenwich-village-townhouse-with-a-rich-artistic-history#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) Celebrity Real Estate [Pink Buys \$21.5 Million Greenwich Village Townhouse With a Rich Artistic History](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/pink-buys-greenwich-village-townhouse-with-a-rich-artistic-history#intcid=_architectural-digest-right-rail_d7d56c45-0213-4472-853a-87a8effcf3cc_popular4-2) By Katie Schultz **Delivery and assembly:** Straight out the gate, did the chair arrive within the guaranteed delivery window? And if you had to assemble it, was it relatively easy to do so or did it come with a tough-to-parse manual and 100 parts? **Dimensions:** Apartment dwellers know better than anyone that being conservative with floor real estate isn’t a want, but a need. That’s why our reviews provide exact measurements for the styles we tested and any notes on whether we thought a chair might not be a good fit (literally) for a modest-sized workspace. **Rating the experience:** A chair that’s both easy on the eyes and tush is our number one priority. **What to keep in mind**: Everyone has different ideas of perfection—which is why each chair also has a section detailing what a potential buyer should keep in mind. For example, if assembly was particularly difficult, if the chair had special care instructions, and if the design seemed polarizing, we made note of all that. ## Branch Ergonomic Pro vs. Article Svelti ## Office Chair FAQs **What features should I look for in an office chair?** AccordionItemContainerButton Our experts—TikTok’s favorite neurosurgeon, [Betsy Grunch, MD, FAANS, FACS](https://cna.st/affiliate-link/8R1h8mj7jPeeTtJ2oedHbMywCuK7LC4uyBJY6NYj9aPsTx3Pay8amUvACQ6PGHEeMpDDpz6EXPMqiiEhq1d6viYY3E1swsggviU4EkyKKERC9KHKVK9BiVG7U5QW8mdDvvwJmzYDUFwRCyYZF7hvpcCSkajL6YmYNNrgKaRdj2TqKQCFHKBpuYjcsncHxD9zPNUx9HRNnyGYeb7Mqv6qoQfgrUhCWEUBiCEcvgKmiLyrihJpiHJPhiPREHw6fJ1sURPaXEZiYRFWE32FwKhSnWBfUZwAorSAsfSbR69nYb1ckYsyNjP3tDvBMB8UvGzpxin7SuYynUJymrCYMCyQNwauwr65sewaVpCVqFQT4Q) and Gainesville Physical Therapy's [Kristy Basinger PT, CHT](https://gainesvillept.com/about/#link-kristen)—agree that your back rest should be made from breathable material such as mesh for better air circulation, decreased perspiration, and greater comfort overall. Adjustability for different body types is crucial no matter which new chair you choose, so you can ensure your feet are positioned flat on the floor and arms set at a 90-degree angle. **Why are office chairs so expensive?** AccordionItemContainerButton Like any investment piece of [furniture](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-online-furniture-stores), you get what you pay for. Cheaper office chairs have a much shorter lifespan, typically just a few years. Non-performance fabrics and [leather seats](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/were-suddenly-feeling-leather-sofas) will show their age more than performance materials that are better equipped to handle stains, scratches, and general wear and tear. You’ll know it’s time for a new seat when the customizable features—such as armrests, height, and seat position—start to wear out and aren’t as easy to adjust. **What are the differences between office chair styles?** AccordionItemContainerButton **Task:** As the name suggests, task chairs are designed for specific tasks. Think of these chairs as short-term, minimal seating for quick bursts of work. They often have a less padded, simpler design and less support than true ergonomic office chairs that are designed for full days. If you’re [working from home](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/set-up-best-work-from-home-space), investing in one of the best office chairs (and not just a dining chair you’ve put up to the task) will help correct a persistent case of tech neck and maybe even boost your morale—but no promises there. Comfort and [ergonomics](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/the-ergonomic-dozen) are important, sure, but because we’re *AD*, the aesthetics of your [desk](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/gallery/desks-for-small-spaces) seating equally matter. Maybe that budget mesh chair you picked up from an office supply store clocks in and does the job every morning, but is it the right culture fit for the very curated aesthetic of your home? ## Featured in this article Best Overall Branch Verve Chair [Read more](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#632a95a7cb170a2f3101fcbd) Best Designhead-Approved Pick Herman Miller Aeron Chair [Read more](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#617b035d37a0ea8480170eb1) Best Ergonomic Office Chair Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro [Read more](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#67c2310db0195ad988dbe77e) **In This Article:** - [Our Top Picks](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#aeronchair) - [Comparing Our Favorites](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#comparing-our-top-picks) - [More AD-Approved Options](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#more-ad-approved-picks) - [Why You Should Trust Us](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#why-trust-us) - [How We Chose](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#how-we-chose) - [How We Tested](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#testing) - [Branch Ergonomic Pro vs. Article Svelti](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#video) - [Office Chair FAQs](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-office-chairs-tested-and-reviewed#expert) Over the years that we’ve been testing office chairs, we’ve expanded our search to include a high-low selection that includes wallet-friendly picks, but also household names in the ergonomic space, from Herman Miller to Knoll, that come approved by design lovers like us. Our editors and writers have personally sat on, worked on, and Zoomed from each of these picks and can attest that not only are they attractive, but they will also provide structural support for your bottom and back during the longest meetings in your iCal. **Specs** - **Dimensions:** 41"H x 27"W x 27"D - **Materials:** 3D knit, foam, and aluminum - **Weight Capacity:** 275 lbs. - **Colors:** Coral, lunar, mist, mint, cobalt, and galaxy - **Warranty:** 7 years **Adjustability:** - Seat height and depth adjustable ✔ - Adjustable armrest height ✔ - Adjustable lumbar height ✔ - Tilt and tilt tension ✔ **Upsides** - Very comfortable for long periods of sitting - 3D knit back is breathable and supports posture - Sporty look and several color choices **Downsides** - No headrest - Not as affordable as other Branch picks on this list Best Designhead-Approved Pick [![An Aeron office chair that is black and mesh](https://media.architecturaldigest.com/photos/64e6e7de30d138918394e3dc/3:4/w_748%2Cc_limit/slide_14.jpg)](https://cna.st/p/2SQUXCr65hrUREtmEd5Cf6tuBmCWvpp93QoDkv7qc1WoAYkhiaBX2Qe66J1wcG3VP5joCdzAMzLE4CEjvAS1MQTVQKtZFyA5TF2qMjcM46oKqBPvSFvRzmY3fPp6EjqsCB34nffTKgP7KS4MNKUSmYa57LVAffG86JWar3DhLNBrN3RCupM5wiKudu9nV28pSy4nqoAzaaHUPzLUij22ZokuiuBxJvtrJikGgcAKTfg9nsAycY9bjLJWcE5npsLJwtTNwCqNyY46A76Xpz6jHW7z2mdY3otQQ7yLrqpnMMMnGpQMvYxd6DSuhGBH1pNKMtVTYaiyetdmHnLxSn4dD9XjELMNCZ4hbZFjmFMfcPuGhEgRVmj3zFs3r7gbgVojYxe848uHqBBq3qD67TzmdmqRzsPLJWU5132c3KsP1SXryn9Yp4nR2NLxLFuuDV4GfQcYCnN6ip) Herman Miller Aeron Chair There’s a reason the Aeron is Herman Miller’s [most beloved](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/this-is-the-absolute-best-home-office-desk-chair-according-to-top-designers) and recognizable office chair. Once the chair was delivered—no assembly required—Sessums came away impressed with the power of the patented PostureFit SL back support, which encourages opening up the chest and shoulders, and tilts the pelvis slightly forward. “This chair will save your body,” she says. “It’s easy to see why people invest in supreme desk setups. I would recommend the Aeron chair again and again.” Most Popular **Specs** - **Dimensions:** 38œ"H x 25Ÿ"W x 16"D - **Materials:** Aluminum frame and base; 8Z pellicle elastomeric suspension seat and backrest - **Weight Capacity:** 300–350 lbs. It is slightly less svelte and also slightly more expensive than its predecessor, the original [Branch Ergonomic](https://cna.st/affiliate-link/26cS5CHyNDD84VmmsajPah9cZbBuVwFmgz1WSyMDg8Q545qLBBTxQZqwxHcwmiwL8tgr1QHsZPBdiWvfnXMp7dZnWbx6FfYPKQNJx69FmJQkJKR8u923aGh4U6Co1PasYS73v41KCsySRhx7QNYcR4xmxrZSj1Y4JYtxCG8EqL3YhC37KuZfjsgH5bS57tY95uwUchYZzgBG81MbozuDCiquCnrhdBjdxoud7beS7GkfLmsrXbvzaU9NGaZt8FXpPZuwKymzz8SH7oxwHtEqhYgMCj9SYAX6tdNNNntZxp7bPa1YEVmcEfAMQzYUo2evpKtVJRaUHSwyg5r8NMG1qejfanVbw9KvyHoBUpkJd37aLWyijFefBZUV289p9pHB1djyHuxsGDVFfaf4Gj7B5d7Apj756), which our tester Williams also loved for its ergonomic design. Most Popular The only drawback is that the Ergo Pro needs assembly out of the box, and the construction process is a bit of a learning curve. Unlike leather executive office chairs that can read harsh or overly corporate, the Asari’s look is unparalleled. Lee “absolutely recommends” this chair to anyone looking to splurge on their home office. From physical appearance to practical use, it scores 10s across the board. And while these are all perks you would expect from a high-priced chair that costs over \$1,000, the Breck supplies them at under \$500. - Photo: Lizzie Soufleris Steelcase Gesture Ergonomic Chair **Specs** - **Dimensions:** 39.25 - 44.25" H x 22.375" W x 21"D - **Materials:** Leather upholstery, plastic - **Weight Capacity:** 400 pounds - **Warranty**: 12 years **Adjustability:** - Adjustable height ✔ - Adjustable armrests ✔ **Upsides** - The leather upholstery is smooth and easy to clean - The chair was easy to assemble since it only came with a couple of parts to snap together - The highly customizable options to personalize the chair’s upholstery and frame to fit my taste **Downsides** - The backrest is a bit stiff and hard to push back, so it might be less ideal for those who like a relaxed feel to their seating - Unboxing was a challenge as the box weighed close to 70 pounds Most Popular For anyone in need of a custom office chair, Steelcase has solutions. Senior commerce editor [Nashia Baker](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/contributor/nashia-baker) settled on this grey leather version from 23 upholstery options, which allow you to choose from peachy pinks, neutrals, and warm leather hues. At over \$2,000, it’s definitely an investment, but for all the custom flourishes, Baker says it’s all worth it. - Photo: Lizzie Soufleris Fritz Hansen Series 7 Upholstered Office Chair **Specs** - **Dimensions:** 24"W x 20.5"D x 30.7" - 35.4"H - **Materials:** 9 layers of veneer plus 2 layers of cotton textile and rests on a thin mirrored chrome steel base - **Weight Capacity:** 240 pounds - **Warranty**: Not listed **Adjustability:** - Adjustable height ✔ **Upsides** - The iconic shape and design of it - The chrome base, which feels sophisticated but retro - The curve and dimension against my back, which improved my posture **Downsides** - Dimensions are not ideal for tall people (and we’d suggest an in-person test run for comfort before purchase) - Armrests may be too low for some people - Pricey Most Popular It’s not every day you find a chair that makes you feel capable, and yet that’s exactly the effect the Fritz Hansen Series 7 had on our commerce writer [Julia Harrison](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/contributor/julia-harrison) over the course of a few weeks. “It’s elevated, a hallmark of sophisticated design, a nod to Arne Jacobsen in your home, and—to my frame, anyway—a comfortable chair choice in which I feel, actually, quite powerful in my craft.” - Photo: Lizzie Soufleris Vipp 453 Swivel Chair **Specs** - **Dimensions:** 26.4" L x 26.4" W x 30.5" H - **Materials:** Polished aluminium, aniline leather - **Warranty**: 5 years **Adjustability:** Adjustable height ✔ **Upsides** - Stylish leather and metal design - 360-degree spin - Available with castors or floor gliders **Downsides** - Not as comfortable or as adjustable as other picks on this list - Back may be too low for taller people Most Popular Associate digital editor [Maya Ibbitson](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/contributor/maya-ibbitson) compares this sleek metal and leather seat, an extra-padded iteration of Vipp’s original swiveling chair, to wearing peep-toe heels in a sea of basic sneakers: “There are lots of cut outs, so it doesn’t have the support of a pair of Asics, admittedly,” she says. It made me want to sit up straight for the sake of matching its sleekness, so I guess it also functions as a posture corrective.” *** Why You Should Trust Us Our commitment to bringing you quality seat recs is [well documented](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/24-best-accent-chairs), and finding an office chair that is comfortable, well-made, and easy on the eyes can make a world of difference in how you feel while you’re sitting in a seemingly endless one-hour meeting. The *AD* shopping team thoroughly vets items before including them in our roundups, and we test nearly everything we write about—office chairs being no exception. We also overhauled this article in September 2025 for our fifth annual [Seat Week](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/shopping/seat-week), adding a few more stylish picks that we tested. How We Tested These Office Chairs Our editors and contributors tested these at *AD* headquarters and within their home offices to test their mettle, recording their takeaways after at least a month (in most cases, several months) of sitting, rolling, and . Each of our testers was looking at a very specific set of criteria outlined below: Most Popular **Delivery and assembly:** Straight out the gate, did the chair arrive within the guaranteed delivery window? And if you had to assemble it, was it relatively easy to do so or did it come with a tough-to-parse manual and 100 parts? **Dimensions:** Apartment dwellers know better than anyone that being conservative with floor real estate isn’t a want, but a need. That’s why our reviews provide exact measurements for the styles we tested and any notes on whether we thought a chair might not be a good fit (literally) for a modest-sized workspace. **Rating the experience:** A chair that’s both easy on the eyes and tush is our number one priority. **What to keep in mind**: Everyone has different ideas of perfection—which is why each chair also has a section detailing what a potential buyer should keep in mind. For example, if assembly was particularly difficult, if the chair had special care instructions, and if the design seemed polarizing, we made note of all that. Your seat is another important component for gluteal support that should have adequate padding consisting of dense foam or similar materials. Adjustability for different body types is crucial no matter which new chair you choose, so you can ensure your feet are positioned flat on the floor and arms set at a 90-degree angle. **Why are office chairs so expensive?** Like any investment piece of [furniture](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/best-online-furniture-stores), you get what you pay for. There’s a lot of science that goes into crafting a comfortable and supportive office chair that you can actually be productive in. Office chairs are so expensive because you’re not only investing in a [chair](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/accent-chairs), but also making an investment in your physical health. We spend at least eight hours a day in these seats, and they can dramatically affect our posture, joint health, and mobility. **What are the differences between office chair styles?** **Task:** As the name suggests, task chairs are designed for specific tasks. Think of these chairs as short-term, minimal seating for quick bursts of work. They often have a less padded, simpler design and less support than true ergonomic office chairs that are designed for full days.
