Antarctica is one of the oldest continents on Earth and holds a particular fascination for many. Perhaps youâve read of the voyages Shackleton, or perhaps youâre a wildlife lover, or maybe just a pure adventurist. Whatever draws you to the White Continent, these 19-day hands-on sail expeditions will ensure you get to see the most impressive places and sights of this wonderful wilderness in a responsible way respecting the great privilege that a chance to visit offers.
Join this small group sailing adventure headed for the last great wilderness on the planet. Youâll begin in Ushuaia, Argentina â the southernmost city in South America. First up is the Drake Passage followed by the Antarctic Convergence Zone. The wildlife along the way is astounding. Think seals, sea-gulls, petrels, and more.
Each night, your ship will anchor in sheltered bays. During the day, your experienced crew will take small groups ashore in dinghies for close up views of penguin rookeries, glaciers, seals, birds, and various flora. The further south you voyage, the more Minke, Orca, Humpback, and Killer Whales will travel with you.

### Explore one of the world's last wildernesses as hands-on crew of a 19 day sailing expedition to Antarctica.
**Antarctica is one of the oldest continents on Earth and holds a particular fascination for many. Perhaps youâve read of the voyages Shackleton, or perhaps youâre a wildlife lover, or maybe just a pure adventurist. Whatever draws you to the White Continent, these 19-day hands-on sail expeditions will ensure you get to see the most impressive places and sights of this wonderful wilderness in a responsible way respecting the great privilege that a chance to visit offers.**
Join this small group sailing adventure headed for the last great wilderness on the planet. Youâll begin in Ushuaia, Argentina â the southernmost city in South America. First up is the Drake Passage followed by the Antarctic Convergence Zone. The wildlife along the way is astounding. Think seals, sea-gulls, petrels, and more.
Each night, your ship will anchor in sheltered bays. During the day, your experienced crew will take small groups ashore in dinghies for close up views of penguin rookeries, glaciers, seals, birds, and various flora. The further south you voyage, the more Minke, Orca, Humpback, and Killer Whales will travel with you.

#### Accommodation
The ship is ideal for ocean crossings and longer voyages, with various places for relaxing: library, lounge, poker corner and deckhouse. These different areas allow you to do your own thing: perhaps some quiet reading or a more active role in the social life in the deckhouse. The ship is equipped with a DVD player, a CD player, i-Pod connection and radio.
There are four 2-person cabins, four 4-person cabins and four 6-person cabins. The comfortable cabins each have an en-suite toilet and shower. An experienced cook and cookâs assistant will prepare three meals a day.
The ship is a Dutch vessel and part of the permanent crew is Dutch. But we have an international crew and guest crew and you will find various nationalities among them. The common language on board is English.
#### Meals
The shipâs cook and assistant provide 3 delicious, freshly made meals a day. Meal options on board are: non-vegetarian or vegetarian. Due to the limited size of the shipâs galley and storage all other meal requirements and allergies need to be checked with our cook. A vegan diet cannot be catered for on board.
#### Who is this trip for?
The voyage attracts sailors, wildlife lovers, photographers and those looking for a once in a lifetime adventure.
Being fit and healthy is extremely important when undertaking a voyage on a sailing and moving vessel in remote areas where no extra medical care is available. Being able to move around smoothly when under sail is a challenge for all sailors on board so building up your fitness before the voyage is highly recommended.

Safety is the number one priority. In addition to the health statement in the booking form, the crew office for these expeditions ask sailors aged 65 or over to submit a statement from their physician â details will be provided. Their Antarctica voyages are not available for sailors of 73 years or older.
#### Life on board
The ship is registered as a sail training ship and as such you will be mustered as voyage crew. This means that, more so than on a passenger ship, you will get extensive safety instructions and we ask you to join in the watch system. Participating in sailing and running the ship is part of the overall experience on board. The level of participation will depend on your interest and physical condition. On deck you work together with the permanent crew.
The watch system consists of joining the permanent crew for 4 hours, after which you will be off for 8 hours. Everyone is welcome to take the helm, set sails, assist with manoeuvres, navigation, weather observations, furling the sails on the yards and much more.
The permanent crew will give lectures and instruct you during the voyage in steering, navigation and line handling.
#### Guides on board
During the Antarctica expeditions there will be a guide on board the ship He/she knows the area we will be visiting well. The guide gives lectures on board the ship about the flora and fauna you may encounter, prepares you for the landings on shore and will guide you on the shore walks.
#### Flora and fauna
Antarctica is a huge, cold, white plain, which appeals to the imagination of everybody. Many are fascinated by the rich wildlife or the beauty of the unspoilt Antarctic natural environment. All penguin species are restricted to the Southern Hemisphere, but the greatest concentrations are on Antarctic coasts and sub-Antarctic islands. On the peninsula Gentoo and Chinstrap Penguins are the most common. Near the colder Weddell Sea we also find Adelie and Emperor Penguins, although the Emperor penguin is seen more rarely.
The Antarctic waters support a vast variety of seabirds. Only a few species are adapted to breed regularly on the continent. Skuas are widespread and prominent in the Antarctic. They prey heavily on the eggs and chicks of penguins and small petrels. Also prions, fulmars, and shearwaters are often seen, as well as terns, sheathbills, and two species of cormorants. Fish and krill in the Antarctic are important components of the marine ecosystems. They are major prey for higher predators, including the baleen whales, as the Humpback, Minke and Fin Whale. The Orca or Killer Whale is also seen in this area.
There are many seals. Depending on the species, seals feed on fish and squid or krill. The Leopard Seal is a predator of penguins and other seals. Seals can leave the water and move on dry land to breed, rest and moult.

Crew and guests join the ship from all over the world and all ages. As a sail training vessel, everyone on board is assigned to the watch system to help sail the ship - navigating, taking the helm and handling the sails. Sailing experience is not required just a desire to sail to new horizons and experience all aspects of a sailorâs life on board: The wind, the sea, new friends and adventure.

Join this small group sailing adventure headed for the last great wilderness on the planet. Youâll begin in Ushuaia, Argentina â the southernmost city in South America. First up is the Drake Passage followed by the Antarctic Convergence Zone. The wildlife along the way is astounding. Think seals, sea-gulls, petrels, and more.
Each night, your ship will anchor in sheltered bays. During the day, your experienced crew will take small groups ashore in dinghies for close up views of penguin rookeries, glaciers, seals, birds, and various flora. The further south you voyage, the more Minke, Orca, Humpback, and Killer Whales will travel with you.
