Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Place bread crumbs into a small bowl; mix in cream. Allow to stand until crumbs absorb cream, about 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, melt 1 teaspoon butter in a skillet over medium heat; cook and stir onion until light brown, about 10 minutes. Transfer onion to a mixing bowl.

Mix ground beef, ground pork, egg, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger with onion in the mixing bowl. Lightly mix in bread crumbs and cream.

Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Pinch off about 1 ½ tablespoons meat mixture per meatball; form into balls. Place meatballs into the skillet and cook, turning often, until browned, about 5 minutes. Insides of meatballs will still be pink.

Place browned meatballs into a baking dish, pour in chicken broth, and cover with foil.
Bake in the preheated oven until meatballs are tender, about 40 minutes. Remove meatballs to a serving dish.

This was a nice dish. My husband loved it. I thought it was okay, but swedish meatballs is simply not one of my favorite meals. I liked browning the onions and pre-browning the meatballs. The meatballs turned out very soft. I didn't care for the texture and would have preferred a sturdier meatball and less bread/milk/onion and no egg. I am super picky about textures though, so while I gave this a 3, my husband was loving every bite and gave it two thumbs up. I scaled this down to only 3 servings and didn't use the pork or the optional ginger. I felt like the sauce needed more flavor and that it was a bit bland for my palate even with the sour cream. Adding some grated nutmeg would probably help and less sour cream. But again, my husband loved this and is delighted with leftovers for his lunch tomorrow. Overall this was a decent meal and I just didn't care for the too soft texture of the meatballs personally.

Oh my goodness, this was so delicious! The spices and sweet in the meatballs were divine! It took me longer than I thought it should have - I’ll try to organize better next time. We ate it so fast that I don’t have a great pic of the entire dish, but some on my plate before I finished it off. The only change I made to the recipe was that I used more meat as I knew my husband and son would want more. Otherwise, I followed it as the recipe outlined. I highly recommend this recipe! I served it over steamed rice, but it would go well over mashed or a baked potato as well.

I think the meatballs were good but just too much gravy in proportion with the meatballs and too much sour cream. If I make this again, double the meatball part and add a couple extra pieces of bread to the mixture. When it comes down to the sour cream in the gravy I'm only going to use like 1/4 cup. One cup is way too much.

WONDERFUL and so authentic. I love the simplicity of this recipe and the results were incredible: tender flavorful meatballs, a savory gravy, all atop fluffy, creamy egg noodles. The nutmeg is the star player and transforms the meatballs into an exotic comfort food. I followed the recipe closely but only added a quarter cup sour cream.Take note: The recipe AS IS will really only serve two adults and 2 children. After all, It’s only about a pound of meat, and roughly 30 tiny meatballs. They’re so delectable , you can seriously eat 8 meatballs, maybe more. I recommend getting a pound of pork and a pound of beef, and just doubling the recipe if you are feeding 4-6 adults. it reheats beautifully. I’m eating leftovers today and I swear it’s even better than yesterday. If you like Swedish meatballs, try this recipe. It’s a keeper\!
