The United States is still firmly in control of the 2016 Rio Olympics medal count, thanks in part to its dominating performance in the swimming pool.
The US won several more gold medals on Wednesday, including the women's 4 x 200 meter relay made up of Katie Ledecky, Allison Schmitt, Leah Smith and Maya DiRado. Team USA also won a rare medal in fencing--a silver from Daryl Homer. American cyclist Kristin Armstrong won her third consecutive gold medal in the individual road time trial.
Great Britain had a good day in the medal count, winning golds in diving and kayak and an additional four bronzes.
The updated medal count going into Thursday's Day 11 has the United States leading strongly with 32 overall medals (11 of them gold).
Behind the US are:
China, 23 total (10 gold)
Japan, 18 total (6 gold)
Australia, 12 total (5 gold)
Hungary, 7 total (5 gold) |
