Carpentry Program Overview About the Program The Carpentry program at Seattle Central College's Wood Technology Center will help you learn and master carpentry skills with the guidance and supervision of expert instructors. Our five-quarter Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program is designed to help entry-level and experienced students become highly-skilled professionals in the construction industry. Career Opportunities Carpentry is a fast-growing field, and northwest Washington has one of the highest concentrations of carpentry jobs nationwide (according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). The Carpentry program will help you gain valuable skills that employers want, and you will gain valuable experience with green building practices, cutting-edge materials and industry best practices. Program graduates find rewarding careers in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including: Framing Roofing Concrete and Foundation Work Drywall Installation Interior and Exterior Finish Carpentry Building Science Remodeling and Preservation Site Preparation Intensive Education The Wood Technology Center at Seattle Central College provides safe and comprehensive hands-on training in traditional residential construction as well as sustainable, energy-efficient construction practices. Students learn skills in blueprint reading, construction math, building site layout, foundation systems, concrete, framing, and exterior and interior finish carpentry. Our students learn these skills by doing it themselves, individually and in small groups. The curriculum, developed with input from industry leaders and experienced faculty, will prepare you well for employment in living-wage building jobs. Our graduates are well-prepared for entry-level opportunities in carpentry and on track for leadership roles down the road. If someone isn’t getting a concept, I can show them other ways to solve a problem that makes sense to their particular learning style. My goal is to make the content as accessible as possible.
