| Boilerpipe Text | One of the fairy tales recorded in the history of the Malays is the legend of the Princess of Gunung Ledang or known as Puteri Gunung Ledang for the malays.. Gunung ledang or Mount Ledang is the highest mountain in the state of Johore located at south of peninsula Malaysia. This story happened during the reign of the Sultan Mahmud Shah who was the eighth and last Sultan to rule the Malacca from 1488 to 1511.
The story begins with the death of his queen, Tun Kecil and leaves behind the future heir to the throne, the young Raja Ahmad. Sultan Mahmud Shah was in grieve and is unspeakable to remember the wife who was gone even though he had other wives, Tun Teja the princess from Pahang and Princess Onang Kening, the daughter of Sultan Mansur Shah from Kelantan. He has not visited Balai Rong Seri for a few days to meet the country's dignitaries. This is especially heartbreaking for the dignitaries, especially Bendahara Tun Perpatih Semasa and Laksamana Hang Tuah, two highly respected and influential dignitaries in the Malacca palace.
However, what happened one night changed everything when he dreamed of a woman who was too beautiful, and appeared and became engrossed in her. It is so unusual for her to look like, caress and tease him so much that he does not want to wake up from his dreams. It is rumored that the woman is Puteri Gunung Ledang, the guardian of Gunung Ledang who has inhabited the mountain for hundreds of years. All this time he only heard about the princess's stories but it was through his dream, only then did he know that the princess was too beautiful.
One day, Sultan Mahmud shah voiced his desire to marry the Puteri Gunung Ledang. Soon he sent a famous warrior named Admiral Hang Tuah to the mountain with the faithful and Tun Mamat as well as some warriors to accompany him. When they climbed the mountain they were hit by strong winds that left them unable to continue their ascent.
Tun Mamat ordered the Hang Tuah to resist while he and several people continued their journey. After crossing the thick bamboo forest, they finally reached one very beautiful and beautiful garden area. The fragrance of the park is very refreshing. There they found four women and told their purpose to meet Puteri Gunung Ledang and convey the wishes of the Sultan Mahmud Shah to marry her. One of the women named Dang Raya Rani, was the guardian of Puteri Gunung Ledang and promised to deliver the purpose to the Puteri Gunung Ledang. And soon after that the four women disappeared.
On that night, they stumbled upon an old wantita who had bent down according to age, telling Tun Mamat that if Sultan Mahmud shah wanted to be married, there were some conditions that needed to be fulfilled. Among the conditions are:
1. A gold and silver bridge connecting Melaka and Mount Ledang
2. 7 trays of mosquito liver
3. 7 vat of young areca nut
4. 7 vat of virgins tears
5. One cup of sultan's blood
6. One cup of blood of the sultan's son
Upon their return to Malacca, Tun Mamat presented the request of the Puteri Gunung Ledang to Sultan Mahmud Shah. Hearing the conditions made him dreamy at the thought of the rather strange terms of the condition. However, all such requests may be Sultan Mahmud shah cashed except for the last condition which is a cup of blood of the sultan's son. Sultan Mahmud Shah did not reach the heart to make the blood of his son, Raja Ahmad as a pass. Therefore, Sultan Mansur Shah cancelled his intention to marry Puteri Gunung Ledang.
Such is the story of the legend of Puteri Gunung Ledang where all the conditions and demands of the Puteri Gunung Ledang are actually just a trick to reject the request of the Sultan Mahmud Shah to marry her. There are also those who claim that the old lady is Puteri Gunung Ledang that manifests as an old woman. This story is very popular among the Malaysian community and several films and theaters are made for public viewing. |

[I Had Already Given Up⌠But Then Something Unexpected HappenedFrom the outside, nothing looked too bad. I had a roof over my head, a few people around me, and dreams that once gave me purpose. But inside⌠it was a completely different story. I was tired. Not physically, but mentally and emotionally exhausted. I had tried so many times to improve my life. I made plans, set goals, and promised myself that âthis time will be different.â But every time I tried, something went wrong. Either I failed, or things didnât go as expected. Slowly, those failures started building a wall inside meâa wall made of doubt, fear, and disappointment. At first, I kept fighting. I told myself that failure is part of success. I watched motivational videos, read quotes, and forced myself to stay positive. But the truth is⌠there is a limit to how much a person can pretend to be strong. And one day, I reached that limit. I stopped trying. I stopped setting goals. I stopped dreaming. I stopped believing that anything good could happen to me. Days became empty. I would wake up without purpose and go to sleep without hope. Life felt like a routine I was forced to follow, not something I wanted to live. One night, I remember sitting alone in my room. The lights were off, and the silence felt heavy. I kept staring at the ceiling, lost in my thoughts. A question kept repeating in my mind: âWhatâs the point of trying if Iâm just going to fail again?â For the first time, I didnât have an answer. That night, I silently gave upânot just on my goals, but on myself. The next morning, I woke up late. I had no plans, no motivation, and no reason to get out of bed. I picked up my phone just to pass time, scrolling mindlessly. And then, I saw something unexpected. A message. It was from an old friend I hadnât talked to in months. The message was simple: âHey⌠I donât know why, but I just felt like telling you this. I believe in you. Donât give up.â That was it. No long speech. No deep advice. Just a few words. At first, I didnât think much of it. I even smiled a little, thinking it was random. But as I kept staring at those words, something inside me shifted. âI believe in you.â It had been a long time since I heard that. And even longer since I said that to myself. For months, I had been my own biggest critic. I kept reminding myself of my failures, my mistakes, and everything that went wrong. But I never once reminded myself of my efforts⌠or my potential. That small message didnât magically fix my life. My problems were still there. My situation hadnât changed overnight. But something else changed. My perspective. For the first time in a long time, I thought⌠âWhat if I try again? Just one more time?â Not perfectly. Not confidently. Just⌠honestly. So I started small. The next day, I woke up a little earlier. Not 5 AM like those perfect routinesâbut earlier than usual. I did one small productive task. It wasnât much, but it was something. The day after that, I did a little more. Some days were still hard. Some days I felt the same heaviness, the same doubt creeping back in. There were moments when I wanted to quit again. But this time, I didnât. Because now, I had a different mindset. I wasnât trying to be perfect. I was just trying to not give up. Weeks passed, and slowly, things began to change. Not dramaticallyâbut noticeably. I became more focused. My thoughts became clearer. I started feeling a little more in control of my life. Opportunities didnât suddenly fall into my lap, but I started noticing them again. And one day, while reflecting on my journey, I realized something powerful: I wasnât stuck because I failed. I was stuck because I stopped trying. Failure didnât destroy me. Giving up did. That one message from my friend didnât change my life directly. But it reminded me of something I had forgottenâthat even in the darkest moments, there is always a small chance to start again. And sometimes, thatâs all you need. A small reminder. A small step. A small decision to try again.](https://vocal.media/fiction/i-had-already-given-up-but-then-something-unexpected-happened)
