Sarbjit Sangha said that part of the investigation continues.\n“There are more people who may be facing charges at a later date,” she said.\nAll three men charged in the brazen escape of the two-time killer appear to have criminal histories — Van Gool, 46, was convicted in 2001 of driving while prohibited, in 2002 of dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of stolen property and a breach of court-ordered conditions. He received a six-month conditional sentence.\nLater in 2002, he was charged with several counts of possession of stolen property, including a credit card, and more breaches. He was sentenced to 105 days in jail. More mischief and theft charges came in 2003 and 2004. But there is nothing in the online court database for the last 20 years.\nAyoub, 48, was already in custody in Ontario when the new charges were laid. He was charged last year with arson causing property damage, possession of incendiary materials, breaking and entering, and conspiracy.\nPotvin, who is at large and the subject of a Canada-wide warrant, appears to have faced drug charges back in 1998, according to news reports at the time.\nJohn Brian Potvin\nPhoto by Handout\n\/\nRCMP\nPolice wouldn’t comment on the alleged role of each suspect in the breakout or whether they were the men captured on CCTV entering North Fraser Pretrial Jail dressed as construction workers and leaving with Alkhalil a short time later.\nAlkhalil and other prominent B.C. Wolfpack gangsters have strong connections in Ottawa. The Alkhalil family moved to the nation’s capital after two sons were murdered in the Lower Mainland. Wolfpack leader Damion Ryan, a B.C. Hells Angel, was living in an Alkhalil-owned house in Ottawa when he was arrested in 2022 on drug smuggling charges.\nAsked about the possible involvement of North Fraser staff in the escape, the Ministry of Public Safety said in an emailed statement: “As this matter remains under police investigation, any and all inquiries should be directed to police.”\nConservative MLA and former Mountie Elenore Sturko said there must be “full transparency about how an escape of this nature happened and whether or not any correctional staff were involved.”\nSturko said she understands that more information for the public might have to wait until after any criminal proceedings are complete.\n“At some point, we need to fully understand the scope of what happened and what vulnerabilities do exist,” she said.\nPostmedia first reported Saturday that Alkhalil had been arrested in Qatar the day before, although the RCMP said it couldn’t comment on or confirm that information.\nSources said there is diplomatic sensitivity around the arrest as there is no extradition treaty between Canada and Qatar.\nBryce Telford in a 2018 photo\nPhoto by Handout\n\/\nLangley RCMP\nMeanwhile, Van Gool and Surrey residents Bryce Telford, 28, and Scott Telford, 61, will also appear in B.C. Supreme Court on Wednesday on conspiracy to commit murder charges. Police uncovered the plot to kill a Kamloops man in March 2024 while investigating Van Gool for the Alkhalil escape.\nThe trio was also charged with possession of a loaded “Glock 17-type semi-automatic pistol” without a licence “at or near Kamloops” between March 8 and 9 of last year, according to the second indictment.\nVan Gool is a Facebook friend of both Telfords. Bryce was identified by Surrey RCMP as a prolific offender in 2018. Sarbjit Sangha said that part of the investigation continues.\n\nArticle content\n\n“There are more people who may be facing charges at a later date,” she said.\n\nArticle content\n\nAll three men charged in the brazen escape of the two-time killer appear to have criminal histories — Van Gool, 46, was convicted in 2001 of driving while prohibited, in 2002 of dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of stolen property and a breach of court-ordered conditions. He was sentenced to 105 days in jail. More mischief and theft charges came in 2003 and 2004. Supreme Court on Wednesday on conspiracy to commit murder charges. Wolfpack gangsters have strong connections in Ottawa. The Alkhalil family moved to the nation’s capital after two sons were murdered in the Lower Mainland. Wolfpack leader Damion Ryan, a B.C. Bryce was identified by Surrey RCMP as a prolific offender in 2018. Alkhalil and other prominent B.C. Wolfpack gangsters have strong connections in Ottawa. The Alkhalil family moved to the nation’s capital after two sons were murdered in the Lower Mainland. Wolfpack leader Damion Ryan, a B.C. Hells Angel, was living in an Alkhalil-owned house in Ottawa when he was arrested in 2022 on drug smuggling charges. Asked about the possible involvement of North Fraser staff in the escape, the Ministry of Public Safety said in an emailed statement: “As this matter remains under police investigation, any and all inquiries should be directed to police.” Conservative MLA and former Mountie Elenore Sturko said there must be “full transparency about how an escape of this nature happened and whether or not any correctional staff were involved.” Sturko said she understands that more information for the public might have to wait until after any criminal proceedings are complete. “At some point, we need to fully understand the scope of what happened and what vulnerabilities do exist,” she said. Postmedia first reported Saturday that Alkhalil had been arrested in Qatar the day before, although the RCMP said it couldn’t comment on or confirm that information. Sources said there is diplomatic sensitivity around the arrest as there is no extradition treaty between Canada and Qatar. Supreme Court on Wednesday on conspiracy to commit murder charges. Police uncovered the plot to kill a Kamloops man in March 2024 while investigating Van Gool for the Alkhalil escape. The trio was also charged with possession of a loaded “Glock 17-type semi-automatic pistol” without a licence “at or near Kamloops” between March 8 and 9 of last year, according to the second indictment. Van Gool is a Facebook friend of both Telfords. Bryce was identified by Surrey RCMP as a prolific offender in 2018. He has a decade-long criminal history with convictions for identity theft, personation, resisting a police officer, driving while prohibited, theft, robbery and possession of a firearm contrary to an order. Article content All three men charged in the brazen escape of the two-time killer appear to have criminal histories — Van Gool, 46, was convicted in 2001 of driving while prohibited, in 2002 of dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of stolen property and a breach of court-ordered conditions. He received a six-month conditional sentence. Article content Later in 2002, he was charged with several counts of possession of stolen property, including a credit card, and more breaches. He was sentenced to 105 days in jail. More mischief and theft charges came in 2003 and 2004. But there is nothing in the online court database for the last 20 years. Supreme Court on Wednesday on conspiracy to commit murder charges. Police uncovered the plot to kill a Kamloops man in March 2024 while investigating Van Gool for the Alkhalil escape. Article content The trio was also charged with possession of a loaded “Glock 17-type semi-automatic pistol” without a licence “at or near Kamloops” between March 8 and 9 of last year, according to the second indictment. Article content Van Gool is a Facebook friend of both Telfords. Bryce was identified by Surrey RCMP as a prolific offender in 2018. He has a decade-long criminal history with convictions for identity theft, personation, resisting a police officer, driving while prohibited, theft, robbery and possession of a firearm contrary to an order. Please try again Asked Monday whether any correctional officers were involved in the break out, CFSEU Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha said that part of the investigation continues. “There are more people who may be facing charges at a later date,” she said. All three men charged in the brazen escape of the two-time killer appear to have criminal histories — Van Gool, 46, was convicted in 2001 of driving while prohibited, in 2002 of dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of stolen property and a breach of court-ordered conditions. He received a six-month conditional sentence. Later in 2002, he was charged with several counts of possession of stolen property, including a credit card, and more breaches. He was sentenced to 105 days in jail. More mischief and theft charges came in 2003 and 2004. But there is nothing in the online court database for the last 20 years. Ayoub, 48, was already in custody in Ontario when the new charges were laid. He was charged last year with arson causing property damage, possession of incendiary materials, breaking and entering, and conspiracy. Alkhalil and other prominent B.C. Wolfpack gangsters have strong connections in Ottawa. The Alkhalil family moved to the nation’s capital after two sons were murdered in the Lower Mainland. Wolfpack leader Damion Ryan, a B.C. Hells Angel, was living in an Alkhalil-owned house in Ottawa when he was arrested in 2022 on drug smuggling charges. Asked about the possible involvement of North Fraser staff in the escape, the Ministry of Public Safety said in an emailed statement: “As this matter remains under police investigation, any and all inquiries should be directed to police.” Conservative MLA and former Mountie Elenore Sturko said there must be “full transparency about how an escape of this nature happened and whether or not any correctional staff were involved.” Sturko said she understands that more information for the public might have to wait until after any criminal proceedings are complete. “At some point, we need to fully understand the scope of what happened and what vulnerabilities do exist,” she said. Postmedia first reported Saturday that Alkhalil had been arrested in Qatar the day before, although the RCMP said it couldn’t comment on or confirm that information. Supreme Court on Wednesday on conspiracy to commit murder charges. Police uncovered the plot to kill a Kamloops man in March 2024 while investigating Van Gool for the Alkhalil escape. The trio was also charged with possession of a loaded “Glock 17-type semi-automatic pistol” without a licence “at or near Kamloops” between March 8 and 9 of last year, according to the second indictment. Van Gool is a Facebook friend of both Telfords. Bryce was identified by Surrey RCMP as a prolific offender in 2018. He has a decade-long criminal history with convictions for identity theft, personation, resisting a police officer, driving while prohibited, theft, robbery and possession of a firearm contrary to an order.
