Taipei’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks are some of the best New Year Fireworks in the world, one of the first major cities to erupt with fireworks and viewed by millions on live TV and news across the world. Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks are amazing to watch online or on television- but obviously they are even better in person – so if you happen to be in Taiwan and Taipei for the 2025 New Year’s Eve celebrations, you absolutely must watch the Taipei 101 fireworks. At the stroke of midnight in Taiwan, the Taipei 101 New Year’s Eve fireworks can be seen for miles around and hundreds of thousands of people ring in the Taipei New Year in the streets below. From down below at Taipei Civic Plaza to vantage points like Elephant Mountain or Xinyi outdoor rooftop bars like Hooters , here is our guide to the best viewing spots to see in Taipei’s New Year’s fireworks in 2025 from Taipei 101. This article was originally published on 15 December 2024 . Table of Contents Some tips for Taipei New Year’s Eve Taipei 101 New Year’s Eve Fireworks 2025 Programme, Theming and Timings Best Taipei 101 New Years Eve Fireworks 2025 viewing spots Taipei Civic Plaza / Taipei City Hall Plaza Elephant Mountain / Xiangshan 44 South Military Village Zhongshan Park / National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall The famous Taipei 101 Photo Shot AKA Lane 253, Songren Road Xinyi rooftop bars and restaurants Hooters Xinyi On Television / Livestream BONUS Taipei New Year’s Eve 2025 fireworks viewing spot The other Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks – Tamsui New Year fireworks Found this Taipei 101 Firework Viewing Spots article helpful? Some tips for Taipei New Year’s Eve Most of the best Taipei New Year’s eve firework viewing spots fill up hours before so make sure you get there in plenty of time if you want a ringside seat directly below Taipei 101. Also, some more iconic New Year’s Eve firework viewing spots like Elephant Mountain usually fill up the day before. You are allowed to drink on the Taipei streets for New Year’s Eve (within reason) but you might want to scope out a spot near a public toilet (like a Metro station) if you plan on a big outdoor drinking session to see in the New Year. Most Taipei bars for New Year’s Eve will have a ticketed admission and higher than usual prices – most of these book up in advance so don’t leave it to the last minute if you want a rooftop bar seat to see the Taipei 101 New Year’s Eve Fireworks. Be sure to book your New Year’s Eve hotels in Taipei well in advance and expect to pay a premium, especially those hotels in Xinyi and ones with guaranteed views of Taipei 101. Check out these KKDay and Klook Taiwan New Year offers and party promotions. Image by unsplash.com Taipei 101 New Year’s Eve Fireworks 2025 Programme, Theming and Timings This 2025 / 2026 holiday period, Taipei 101 begins the year-end festivities with a brand-new theme, “SPARK 101,” creating a double-year festive celebration spanning Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Taiwan Lunar New Year. From 27 December to 1 January 2026, Taipei 101 will host different themed light shows every night. The most anticipated highlight is the first-ever projection of Toy Story characters onto a skyscraper, with a dozen cartoon characters appearing in turn each night to welcome the Taiwan New Year. On New Year’s Eve / 31 December 2025, Taipei 101 will present a 3-minute light show themed “Taiwan’s Invisible Heroes,” celebrating local heroes before the Taipei 101 New Year’s fireworks erupt on the stroke of midnight. There are lots of places to see in the Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks but some of the best include: Taipei Civic Plaza / Taipei City Hall Plaza We know this is an amazing place to see the Taipei 101 New Year’s Eve fireworks, as this is where we saw the Taiwan National Day Fireworks (every October 10) erupt from Taipei 101 (much on a much smaller scale). Taipei Civic Plaza / City Hall Plaza is free to visit on New Year’s Eve but will fill up quickly so do try to arrive by no later than later afternoon. Bonus points if you can get a friend to arrive there earlier in the day and claim a spot with a picnic blanket. Taipei Civic Plaza offers unobscured views of the the Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks and is also very close to several Metro stations including Taipei City Hall MRT and Taipei 101 / Civic Trade Center. Below is our video of the October 2024 National Day fireworks taken from Taipei Civic Plaza. Elephant Mountain / Xiangshan One of the most iconic Taipei 101 viewing spots any time of the year, Elephant Mountain (AKA Xiangshan) is so synonymous with the Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks, it even has an eponymous ‘Fireworks Lookout’. Although steep, there are several short Elephant Mountain viewpoints all offer stunning views of Taipei 101 and its cityscape, including the Xinyi District. The nearest MRT Metro station to the start of the easiest Elephant Mountain trail is Xiangshan Station at the end of the red Tamsui / Xinyi line. A word of warning, this is one of the busiest places to see the Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks from Taipei 101. Unless you get here many hours before, you may find it difficult to secure a spot. Also there are no toilets so it isn’t ideal if you want some drinks and Taiwan beers to accompany the Taipei New Year fireworks. 44 South Military Village A historic village juxtaposed against the modern metropolis that is Taipei’s Xinyi District, the 44 South Military Village is like taking a step back in time. Almost a world away from the nearby gleaming skyscrapers and CBD cityscape, it stands in the shadow of Taipei 101 and has a clear line of sight for the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Taiwan. It is one of the best places to view the Taipei 101 New Year fireworks from afar, with the tall tower easily viewed from the historic courtyards and alley-ways here – and better yet, it is free to visit with pleasant parks and gardens all around. Several of our Taiwan Travel Tips Facebook group members went to 44 South Military Village for last New Years Eve based on our recommendations and said they had an excellent view – so this is a serious contender to see in the Taipei New Year fireworks. A popular Taipei 101 fireworks viewing spot, many revellers congregate around the huge pond in the center of the park and spend several hours drinking beforehand with beer, wine and spirits. We bet the nearby 7-Eleven convenience stores do a good trade on New Year’s Eve fireworks night. The nearest MRT is Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall station or Taipei City Hall MRT Station and Taipei 101 / World Trade Center. Taiwanderers Email Newsletter! Given its popularity, this is likely one of the most popular viewing spots people think of to see the Taipei 101 New Year fireworks and the bars and pubs along here will be buzzing. If you don’t like crowds in confined spaces, this might be one to give a miss and head to the parks instead. Xinyi rooftop bars and restaurants If you are someone who likes to party and visit several bars on New Years Eve before the fireworks, then head to Xinyi. Xinyi is the district where Taipei 101 is located and there are lots of shopping malls, bars here to drink during the day and night with views of Taipei 101 including Frank bar , Drunk Play and Babylon Taipei rooftop bar (all in ATT 4 FUN Xinyi Store ) and Morton’s Sky Bar. Hooters Xinyi Update – NYE 2025 is now fully booked We’ve written about our love of Hooters Xinyi bar before on Taiwanderers. The Taipei Hooters Xinyi Bar in Taiwan might be the best Hooters bar in the world – with an incredible rooftop bar terrace offering incredible views of Taipei 101 (plus a very ‘Happy Hour’), Hooters is one of the best bars in Taiwan for a fun night and cheap drinks. Serving up American style diner food accompanied with American, European and Taiwanese beers, Hooters (near Taipei 101) is blessed with skyline views and located on the 14th floor of the Far Eastern Department Store Xinyi A13 Store. Whilst some of the Hooter waitress outfits can be a tad revealing / skimpy, Hooters is a popular bar and great place to watch the Taipei 101 New years fireworks plus live sports in Taipei, including Taiwan baseball games (and live on the huge HDTV screens). Please note Hooters usually charge an additional entrance fee on Taiwan New Years Eve – but the outdoor terrace view is so worth it! Read more about Hooters in Xinyi in our guide > On Television / Livestream OK, so this might not be what you wanted to hear but one of the best ways to watch the Taipei New Year Fireworks is on TV itself or via the official (and free) Taipei 101 fireworks Youtube livestream. You can get really up close to the fireworks courtesy of the TV cameras, enjoy the fireworks from the comfort of your accommodation plus eat, drink and be merry without having to worry about the weather or going to the toilet. If the Taipei weather forecast for this 2025 New Year’s Eve isn’t great, Taiwan TV shows the Taipei 101 fireworks live plus the build-up and official ceremony beforehand. BONUS Taipei New Year’s Eve 2025 fireworks viewing spot Yes, there are actually two lots of Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks including a more family friendly New Year firework display earlier on 31 December in Tamsui. The other Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks – Tamsui New Year fireworks Earlier on New Year’s Eve 2025 in Taiwan, there is another Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks display at Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf. The 2025 Tamsui fireworks show should start around 8.25pm (an earlier start time so families can enjoy it) with over 30,000 fireworks lighting up the Tamsui skies. Danjiang Bridge will also be illuminated. The Tamsui New Years Eve fireworks are set to last 13 minutes and 14 seconds, a reference to the fact the numbers 13 and 14 sound like the phrase for “a lifetime together
” in Mandarin. For the culmination of the display, sky lanterns will be released in unison with the fireworks. You might like our things to do in Tamsui guide > Like our content? Several of our [Taiwan Travel Tips Facebook group members](https://www.facebook.com/groups/taiwantraveltips) went to 44 South Military Village for last New Years Eve based on our recommendations and said they had an excellent view – so this is a serious contender to see in the Taipei New Year fireworks. **Join our Facebook Taiwan Travel Tips (TTT) Group\!** Need help with your Taiwan itinerary or have any questions? A popular Taipei 101 fireworks viewing spot, many revellers congregate around the huge pond in the center of the park and spend several hours drinking beforehand with beer, wine and spirits. We bet the nearby [7-Eleven convenience stores](https://taiwanderers.com/7-eleven-taiwan/) do a good trade on New Year’s Eve fireworks night. Whilst some of the Hooter waitress outfits can be a tad revealing / skimpy, Hooters is a popular bar and great place to watch the Taipei 101 New years fireworks plus live sports in Taipei, including Taiwan baseball games (and live on the huge HDTV screens). Please note Hooters usually charge an additional entrance fee on Taiwan New Years Eve – but the outdoor terrace view is so worth it\! ![](https://taiwanderers.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-10-10-at-15.10.31-683x800.jpg) There are lots of places to see in the Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks but some of the best include: ## **Taipei Civic Plaza / Taipei City Hall Plaza** We know this is an amazing place to see the Taipei 101 New Year’s Eve fireworks, as this is where we saw the Taiwan National Day Fireworks (every October 10) erupt from Taipei 101 (much on a much smaller scale). ![Taipei New Year’s Eve Fireworks - Taipei Civic Plaza / Taipei City Hall Plaza](https://taiwanderers.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/fireworks-taipei-12-635x800.jpg) Taipei Civic Plaza / City Hall Plaza is free to visit on New Year’s Eve but will fill up quickly so do try to arrive by no later than later afternoon. ## **Elephant Mountain / Xiangshan** One of the most iconic Taipei 101 viewing spots any time of the year, Elephant Mountain (AKA Xiangshan) is so synonymous with the Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks, it even has an eponymous ‘Fireworks Lookout’. Although steep, there are several short [Elephant Mountain viewpoints](https://taiwanderers.com/elephant-mountain-taipei/) all offer stunning views of Taipei 101 and its cityscape, including the [Xinyi District.](https://taiwanderers.com/xinyi-taipei-things-to-do/) ![Taipei New Year’s Eve Fireworks - elephant mountain](https://taiwanderers.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/elephant-mountain-30-635x800.jpg) The nearest MRT Metro station to the start of the easiest Elephant Mountain trail is Xiangshan Station at the end of the red Tamsui / Xinyi line. ![](https://taiwanderers.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/elephant-mountain-2-635x800.jpg) ## **44 South Military Village** A historic village juxtaposed against the modern metropolis that is Taipei’s Xinyi District, [the 44 South Military Village](https://taiwanderers.com/44-south-military-village-taipei/) is like taking a step back in time. ![](https://taiwanderers.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/44-South-Military-Village-17-635x800.jpg) Almost a world away from the nearby gleaming skyscrapers and CBD cityscape, it stands in the shadow of Taipei 101 and has a clear line of sight for the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Taiwan. It is one of the best places to view the Taipei 101 New Year fireworks from afar, with the tall tower easily viewed from the historic courtyards and alley-ways here – and better yet, it is free to visit with pleasant parks and gardens all around. We bet the nearby [7-Eleven convenience stores](https://taiwanderers.com/7-eleven-taiwan/) do a good trade on New Year’s Eve fireworks night. The nearest MRT is Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall station or Taipei City Hall MRT Station and Taipei 101 / World Trade Center. **Taiwanderers Email Newsletter\!** For travel tips and fun news, make sure you subscribe to our Taiwanderers Taiwan Travel Tips email newsletter! Given its popularity, this is likely one of the most popular viewing spots people think of to see the Taipei 101 New Year fireworks and the bars and pubs along here will be buzzing. If you don’t like crowds in confined spaces, this might be one to give a miss and head to the parks instead. ## **Xinyi rooftop bars and restaurants** If you are someone who likes to party and visit several bars on New Years Eve before the fireworks, then head to [Xinyi.](https://taiwanderers.com/xinyi-taipei-things-to-do/) Xinyi is the district where Taipei 101 is located and there are lots of shopping malls, bars here to drink during the day and night with views of Taipei 101 including **Frank bar**, **Drunk Play** and **Babylon Taipei rooftop bar** (all in **ATT 4 FUN Xinyi Store**) and **Morton’s Sky Bar.** ## **Hooters Xinyi** **Update – NYE 2025 is now fully booked** We’ve written about our love of [Hooters Xinyi bar](https://taiwanderers.com/hooters-rooftop-bar-taipei-101/) before on Taiwanderers. ![hooters view taipei 101 fireworks](https://taiwanderers.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/hooters-taipei-11-635x800.jpg) Serving up American style diner food accompanied with American, European and Taiwanese beers, Hooters (near Taipei 101) is blessed with skyline views and located on the 14th floor of the Far Eastern Department Store Xinyi A13 Store. [Read more about Hooters in Xinyi in our guide \>](https://taiwanderers.com/hooters-rooftop-bar-taipei-101/) ## **On Television / Livestream** OK, so this might not be what you wanted to hear but one of the best ways to watch the Taipei New Year Fireworks is on TV itself or via the official (and free) Taipei 101 fireworks Youtube livestream. ## **BONUS Taipei New Year’s Eve 2025 fireworks viewing spot** Yes, there are actually two lots of Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks including a more family friendly New Year firework display earlier on 31 December in Tamsui. ## **The other Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks – Tamsui New Year fireworks** Earlier on New Year’s Eve 2025 in Taiwan, there is another Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks display at Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf.
