; it is seasoned beautifully and then dusted with flour, creating a crust for the gloriously creamy, indulgent garlic sauce to cling to. Making this meal at home is much cheaper than the cost for ordering it out, yet it tastes incredible and feels fancy, all in

These are my top tips for cooking chicken breast so that you can make the perfect Creamy Garlic Chicken!
The speed at which the chicken cooks depends on the thickness of the chicken. If in doubt, cook the chicken at a slightly lower temperature (over medium–low) for a longer period of time (approximately 6–8 minutes). This will ensure a golden colour and even sear. Super high temperatures will cause the oil to splatter and the chicken to cook too quickly and blacken on the outside while still being undercooked on the inside. If using smaller chicken breasts, use 3–4 instead of 2.

Coat the chicken –
Sprinkle the chicken with salt, pepper, sweet paprika, onion powder and thyme. Press the chicken into the flour so that all sides are evenly coated.
Cook the chicken –
Heat the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large, deep frying pan over medium–high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 5–6 minutes, or until the chicken is just cooked, turning once halfway through.
Set chicken aside –
Remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside on a plate.
Make the sauce –
To the same pan, add the butter for the sauce. Once melted, add the garlic, stirring for 30 seconds.
Add the chicken stock and cook for 1–2 minutes until it has evaporated by at least half. Stir in the cream and dijon mustard, reduce the heat to medium, and simmer for 2 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly.
Return the chicken to the pan –
Stir through the parmesan, season to taste, then return the chicken to the pan for 2–3 minutes or until the chicken is heated through.
Serve –
Serve the chicken with rice, mashed potatoes or pasta and a side of steamed greens. Top with freshly chopped parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice.

Reheat over low heat in a covered pan, stirring occasionally. Add a splash of water if the sauce thickens too much.
To reheat in the microwave:
Reheat in short bursts (30–40 seconds at a time), stirring in between bursts to ensure even heating. Add a little extra water if needed to loosen the sauce. Note: Cream-based sauces can sometimes separate or become grainy when reheated. To help prevent this, reheat gently over low heat and stir well. If the sauce starts to split, whisk in a small splash of cream or warm milk to bring it back together.

I have just got myself a whole lot of chicken breasts discounted and wanted to half them and marinade them, cook and freeze for an easy pull out protein for us? Hi Emily, the best chicken breast recipe for freezing would be my [Freezer-friendly Chicken Schnitzel](https://simplehomeedit.com/recipe/freezer-friendly-chicken-schnitzel/), which you could then serve with [Creamy Mushroom Sauce](https://simplehomeedit.com/recipe/mushroom-sauce/) on the day (takes 15 mins to whip up). (I have quite a few schnitzel recipes on the website that you can use these freezer-friendly schnits for.) But if you’re after more of a marinade, I would go with the marinade in the [Baked Garlic Chicken Breast](https://simplehomeedit.com/recipe/baked-garlic-chicken-breast/), which you COULD use, marinate and then freeze for up to 2 months, but it is better prepared fresh. 🥰 Nic xx

Hi Jackie! This one would need quite a few changes to make it fully dairy free. While you could swap the cream for coconut milk, use oil instead of butter, and omit the parmesan, the flavour and overall result would be very different from the original recipe. Rather than heavily adapting this one, I’d recommend using a recipe that’s designed to be dairy free from the start – something like [Baked Garlic Chicken Breast](https://simplehomeedit.com/recipe/baked-garlic-chicken-breast/) would be a much better fit and give you a more reliable result. I’ve made this one a few times. I mix the flour and spices on a plate and press chicken in the mix for an even coat. Makes plenty of sauce so leftovers with some pasta is a cook once eat twice win.

Hi Will, The reason this one isn’t recommended for freezing is the cream-based sauce, which can split and become grainy once thawed and reheated. It’s still safe to eat, but the texture won’t be the same. A good workaround is to store leftovers in the fridge for 2–3 days – I’ll often have this for dinner and then lunch the next day! ❤️ Nic x

Yes, boneless, skinless chicken thighs can be substituted for the chicken breast in this Creamy Garlic Chicken recipe. Cooking the chicken thighs will take a little longer; cook for 6–8 minutes or until just cooked through and golden.

Chicken

2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut in half horizontally to make 4 steaks
- ▢
1 tsp salt
- ▢
¼ tsp freshly cracked black pepper
- ▢
1 tsp sweet paprika

1 tsp onion powder
- ▢
1 tsp dried thyme
- ▢
35 g (¼ cup) plain (all-purpose flour)

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp unsalted butter
Sauce

125 ml (½ cup) chicken stock

- **Coat the chicken –** Sprinkle the chicken with salt, pepper, sweet paprika, onion powder and thyme. Press the chicken into the flour so that all sides are evenly coated.
- **Cook the chicken –** Heat the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large, deep frying pan over medium–high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 5–6 minutes, or until the chicken is just cooked, turning once halfway through.
- **Set chicken aside –** Remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside on a plate.
- **Make the sauce –** To the same pan, add the butter for the sauce. Once melted, add the garlic, stirring for 30 seconds.
- Add the chicken stock and cook for 1–2 minutes until it has evaporated by at least half. Stir in the cream and dijon mustard, reduce the heat to medium, and simmer for 2 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- **Return the chicken to the pan –** Stir through the parmesan, season to taste, then return the chicken to the pan for 2–3 minutes or until the chicken is heated through.
- **Serve –** Serve the chicken with rice, mashed potatoes or pasta and a side of steamed greens. Top with freshly chopped parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice.
