Stress migration theory “The best posture is your next posture.” Professor Stuart M. McGill Ph.D. (Kinesiology (Biomechanics)) Distinguished Professor Emeritus, University of Waterloo When you spend over 12 hours a day seated in the same position, no matter how optimal, stress builds up on your body. Movement is crucial to relieving this strain. TITAN Evo is designed to promote natural posture changes and movement. We also take care to ensure every element of TITAN Evo is quick and easy to adjust. Our tilt, height, and recline adjustments are intuitively positioned within arm’s reach. You can effortlessly change your posture throughout the day as you switch between activities and move freely. 4D armrests Fully adjustable in four directions Multi-tilt mechanism Lockable tilt angle Backrest recline Full 165° of angle adjustments 4-way L-ADAPT™ Lumbar Support System Moves up, down, in, and out Magnetic Memory Foam Head Pillow Magnetically adjustable by 155mm Re-engineered Class 4 hydraulics Adjustable range of 100mm Learn more about Secretlab TItan Evo United States Ergonomics Certified Certified by US Ergonomics  The Secretlab TITAN Evo is certified by United States Ergonomics to provide measurable ergonomic benefits to the user by improving comfort and fit and minimizing risk factors that may cause injuries. United States Ergonomics certification indicates that leading experts in the field of ergonomics back TITAN Evo.  Experts have subjected TITAN Evo to rigorous, objective tests in adherence to guidelines established by the International Ergonomics Association. This ensures it meets or exceeds standards derived from published literature and principles of ergonomics, biomechanics, and human factors. Chair silhouette with an exposed seat base showing the underlying cold-cure foam Patent-pending cold-cure foam Why we choose foam over mesh Most ergonomic task chairs are constructed from mesh. Because for years, mesh was thought to be superior. But recent research has shown that carefully engineered foam can outperform mesh. Recent research by the University of California, Berkeley suggests no significant differences between the two in key areas such as comfort, discomfort, pain, and fatigue. In fact, foam was found to have some unique advantages. When engineered properly, foam edges out mesh in terms of pressure distribution and relief. The Berkeley researchers also found that foam was reported to be significantly more supportive over time, suggesting that it is more suitable for long hours of sitting — a crucial factor for gamers, creators, professionals, and anyone looking for a good chair. That’s why the Secretlab TITAN Evo employs a high-density foam mix. Our patent-pending cold-cure foam is deliberately engineered to be medium-firm, for the perfect blend of comfort and performance. Every detail matters How we obsessively design for comfort throughout your 12-hour days When you sit on a Secretlab chair, you’re feeling the hundreds of tiny design decisions that we obsessed over, again and again. From the deliberately sculpted backrest that follows the horizontal curve of your shoulders to our lumbar system’s Y-shaped lattice of living hinges that intelligently adapts to your movements, every single detail on the Secretlab TITAN Evo comes together to make a big difference. Impact of Seat Material on Comfort, Preference and Performance During Computer-Based Tasks over a Prolonged Bout of Sitting University of California, Berkeley Abstract Prolonged sitting time is associated with negative health outcomes, including physical discomfort. Chair design affects seat posture, micro-movement, and pressure distribution, which impacts the user experience. This study investigated the impact of mesh versus foam material on comfort, preference, and subjective performance. Two chairs were used over a three-hour bout of sitting on two different days. Analysis showed no significant difference in pain, comfort, discomfort, or fatigue between chairs, but pain increased in both chairs during the last hour of sitting. The foam chair felt more supportive than the mesh chair at the end of the test period, while more participants preferred the mesh seat material overall. Conclusion The overall results indicate that there was not a substantial difference in user experience during a long bout of sitting in chairs of foam or mesh material. The Effect of TITAN Evo Chairs on Muscle Stiffness, Player Perception and Performance New York Institute of Technology, Center for Sports Medicine Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine the difference of an Aeron chair and a TITAN Evo chair on muscle stiffness, gaming performance, and gamers perceptions during a 2-hour League of Legends gaming session. Prior to gaming, subjects sat for 15 minutes in the chair. Dynamic muscle stiffness [N/m] was tested using oscillation frequency [Hz]. Measurements were taken bilaterally on the upper trapezius, mid trapezius, lower trapezius and erector spinae muscles pre and post 2 hours of gameplay. Surveys were administered following each day on chair preference. Total Wins and Kills were recorded. A paired t-test was used to compare the difference in muscle stiffness pre- and post-game play between chairs and for wins and kills, as well as descriptive statistics. Conclusion This study found minimal differences in muscle stiffness between the TITAN Evo chair and the Aeron chair. However, the data suggests that the TITAN Evo chair is the preferred choice among this group of gamers and is associated with enhanced performance. The Impact of Chair Design on Trunk Sway Parameters During Computer-based Tasks Over a Prolonged Bout of Sitting University of California, Berkeley Abstract Prolonged sedentary behavior has increased due to computer use for work and leisure activities. Prolonged bouts of sitting have been associated with health risks such as low back pain. This study investigated how armrest position and tilt mechanism impact user-chair interfacial pressure and micromotion. Overall, the findings indicate that proper armrest adjustment may increase both the magnitude and the frequency of micromovements while sitting, which could help reduce or prevent lower back pain during sedentary behavior. Conclusion Adjusting armrests according to established ergonomic guidelines increases micromotion that may be helpful in reducing low back pain associated with sitting. Whitepapers Every Secretlab chair is grounded in research into the mechanisms of back pain and how people move in their seats throughout the day. Dive into the details behind science-backed ergonomic design and how a good chair should adapt to support you. The science of stress: How to reduce back pain while sitting Abstract This paper aims to address the mechanisms of back pain, what one should do for back pain while sitting, and the ideal sitting posture. As it turns out, there is no ideal sitting posture given the variance in body types, past injury, and pain history. The optimal sitting posture is one that continually changes. To that end, a good chair should not be task-specific and must support you across multiple tasks, including watching television, gaming, business meetings, and more. No one should buy a chair designed for just one task. Most ergonomic chairs today are still based on design theories that have been outdated since the 21st century. With their origins in the 1970s, **they were created for one single purpose — and one single posture**. Working at typewriters. Or hunched over paperwork. ![People working in an office in the 1970s](<data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 750 540'%3E%3C/svg%3E>) ## Today, we’re doing so much more. From video calls to gaming, streaming Netflix, playing the guitar, texting, and even napping, **we spend over 12 hours a day seated in front of our desks**. A good chair should never place any limits on posture changes. Thoughtful ergonomic design lets you switch between multiple activities and change postures effortlessly, so you can do it all. The idea of support for multiple postures and activities is at the heart of every Secretlab chair. Our ergonomic chairs let you adopt the most optimal posture for the task at hand, whether it’s sitting upright, cross-legged, or in full recline. Secretlab chairs were originally designed for the most demanding professional gamers who spent over 16 hours a day seated. But the myriad design decisions and ergonomic refinements we obsessed over will benefit anyone who spends long hours seated at their desk. The Secretlab TITAN Evo has since found its way into the homes of over 3 million users worldwide, many of them non-gamers. Read more ![In the foreground, a man is sitting up straight at a desk. **Conclusion** The overall results indicate that there was not a substantial difference in user experience during a long bout of sitting in chairs of foam or mesh material. ![University of California, Berkeley logo](<data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 150 120'%3E%3C/svg%3E>) University of California, Berkeley *Human Factors and Ergonomics Program* Consistently ranked among the four top research universities in the world, UC Berkeley’s world-class faculty and researchers lead the way in pushing the boundaries in their respective fields. At Secretlab, R\&D underpins everything we do. Our designers and engineers spend years testing and iterating to ensure that every chair represents the ultimate in technical refinement and ergonomic performance. ![Vincent Sin, Ian Ang, and Alaric Choo discuss what makes a good ergonomic chair.](<data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 750 540'%3E%3C/svg%3E>) In order for a chair to be considered ergonomic, it must satisfy the following criteria: 01It can be used for over 12 hours daily with minimal discomfort. 02It reduces the risk of musculoskeletal disorders caused by prolonged sitting. 03It improves performance or productivity. Patent-pending cold-cure foam ### Ultra-responsive cushioning. For even pressure distribution. Foam supports your body more evenly from the bottom up. In comparison, mesh is stretched across the seat base and supports you from the sides, leading to more uneven pressure distribution. Minimal pressure Substantial pressure Concentrated pressure ### Pressure distribution is key to ensuring comfort over long hours, and it is heavily influenced by seat material. A more even distribution is associated with lower discomfort ratings, particularly in the lower back and buttock area. The Berkeley study also noted trends that may indicate lower mean and peak pressure values for foam, possibly contributing to participants’ impressions of greater comfort. Our cold-cure foam is cast as a single piece from precise aluminum molds, giving it a uniform consistency for more even weight distribution in all directions. It also comprises a unique structure of closed cells. Advanced manufacturing processes make it possible to cure our foam at a lower temperature than regular foam, so its cells are closer together and more compact. **This makes it incredibly resilient to sagging and deformation, delivering consistent support throughout the day.** Common Foam \[Open Cell Foam\] ![A cross section of open cell foam.](<data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 400 400'%3E%3C/svg%3E>) Secretlab Cold Cure Foam \[Closed Cell\] ![A cross section of the closed cells in Secretlab patent-pending cold-cure foam.](<data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 400 400'%3E%3C/svg%3E>) Every detail matters ### No compromises Many brands have tried to copy our chairs over the years, without understanding the science and thinking behind our designs. While their chairs look similar, they often make big compromises in the name of cost savings and lack the attention to detail that sets our chairs apart. This results in a chair that fails when it comes to long-term ergonomic support. ![A figure showing how the natural curvatures of your spine are ergonomically supported by the Secretlab TITAN Evo.](<data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 750 540'%3E%3C/svg%3E>) ### To ensure comfort, TITAN Evo takes into account the spread of anthropometric measurements and body proportions across the population. This means the best possible fit for the vast majority of adults, while also reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders. Our designers also consult with an independent Ergonomics Advisory Board comprising experts in biomechanics, orthopedics, and esports medicine — so multidisciplinary considerations are addressed in all our designs. Each design is then refined through extensive user testing, including pressure mapping, to ensure it holds up in the real world. This reduces pressure behind your knees and allows for greater freedom to position your feet under the chair. Full-length ergonomic backrest ### Anatomical support for your every move **Every angle, curve, and contour on our backrest has been carefully considered.** Its gentle side wings follow the natural horizontal curve of your shoulders — giving you the freedom to change postures easily, while still enjoying optimal support. The typical task chair lacks a full-length backrest, often requiring you to purchase a separate headrest at extra cost. It leaves your upper back unsupported, leading to accumulated stress and fatigue as the day goes on. ![A man is supported by the full-length ergonomic backrest on the Secretlab TITAN Evo.](<data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 500 380'%3E%3C/svg%3E>) The Secretlab TITAN Evo’s full-length backrest **ensures total support for every part of your back, ranging from your lumbar spine to your head and neck.** **Its side wings and backrest are purposefully sculpted to follow the natural horizontal curve of your upper back.** The gentle 30° angle allows for a more open sitting posture than the 55° slope on most gaming chairs, so you can relieve tension and sit healthier. ![A man and woman smiling on the Secretlab TITAN Evo ergonomic chair.](<data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 500 380'%3E%3C/svg%3E>) ![A man reclining and napping on the Secretlab TITAN Evo.](<data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 500 380'%3E%3C/svg%3E>) Your chair should never restrict your movements or posture. TITAN Evo allows you to move in your seat and **adopt different postures comfortably** while naturally guiding you back to the ideal position. L-ADAPT™ lumbar support system ### Lumbar support that adapts to you Everyone’s back is shaped differently. Our 4-way L-ADAPT™ Lumbar Support System can be tailored to fit you just right, moving up, down, in, and out to tuck neatly into the natural 20-45° curvature of your lower back. **Variable lumbar support has been associated with reduced pain in the back, neck, and shoulders**. Our L-ADAPT™ Lumbar Support System relieves tension in your paraspinal muscles and decreases pressure on your ligaments. ![Visual Spacer](<data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 480 280'%3E%3C/svg%3E>) Engineered for maximum versatility and adjustability, our lumbar support system moves in four directions. **Your back requires more support as the day goes on** — and you can increase the level of support when you need it, and dial it back when you don’t. Our engineers also further optimized the support and flex profiles by manipulating the geometry of the supporting plate. An innovative Y-shaped lattice of living hinges intelligently adapts to your back as you move, always providing just the right degree of support as you move between postures. From the founder ### "In 2026, no one should buy a computer chair that only allows them to do one thing." Secretlab has grown tremendously over the years. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes at the Secretlab R\&D Center here in Singapore, where our designers and engineers spend their lives trying to create the ultimate sitting experience for millions of users. It can be challenging to explain some of these complex theories and accumulated knowledge in simple terms. But in this short write-up, I’ll **explain some of the philosophies behind our designs.** Misconception: We make "gaming chairs". **We don’t make "gaming chairs". Our design mentality is that we design chairs suited for long hours of gaming and other activities.** Hence, our design philosophy is starkly different from most "gaming chairs" on the market. Most gaming chairs are influenced by race car seats, which leave much to be desired in terms of long-term seating ergonomic comfort. These bucket seats are extremely restrictive, and the aggressive curve of their backrest pushes your shoulders forward, forcing you into a less-than-ideal posture for the whole day. This is the complete opposite of good seating ergonomic design. **A Secretlab chair is built to support movement, adapting to you through the full range of postures.** If your chair does not allow for movement, stress quickly builds up in your body, leading to pain and discomfort. Traditional ergonomics belong to the 1980s, not 2026 We believe traditional ergonomic chairs and designs have been **outdated since the start of the 21st century.** Decades ago, traditional ergonomic chairs were made for one sole purpose: To promote one singular posture when seated at a desk. This was because computers were rarer in the past. Even if there were computers, the chairs were used solely for one activity — typing. 2026 is a different time. And it requires a different solution. The reality is that we are no longer spending all our time at our desks just typing. Instead, we’re attending virtual calls, focused gaming, watching videos on YouTube, streaming shows on Netflix, playing musical instruments, replying to texts on our smartphones, and even taking short naps at our desks. In addition, the amount of time we spend at our desks has risen tremendously. This calls for a different, more modern approach to ergonomics. Modern ergonomics should cater to **a wide variety of scenarios, not just one specific use case.** It’s time to move beyond what a traditional chair can do. **In 2026, no one should buy a computer chair that only allows them to do one thing**. In fact, sitting upright in the same posture for 12 hours is just wrong. The idea of modern ergonomics is at the heart of Secretlab’s design — one chair that supports different postures for multiple usage scenarios, so you can always adopt the most appropriate one. **Proper sitting ergonomics is key, but unlike traditional ergonomic chairs, a good chair should not limit you in shifting postures.** Why other chairs just do not feel the same That being said, the real challenge lies in achieving the intended result. This is where all of the small details of Secretlab’s chairs add up, from the material formulation to small design intricacies. These all come together to make a huge difference, and it’s why our chairs are much loved. Many brands have attempted to (partially) copy our chairs over the past several years, without understanding why our entire product is designed as it is. This often results in a complete failure when it comes to **creating a cohesive design that boosts long-term ergonomic comfort.** Imagine building a house based on a picture of it, but without the understanding of how all the individual details really come together to make it architecturally sound. While we were a small outfit back then and just wanted to make a good product, we’ve since learned to protect ourselves with intellectual property filings such as patents in recent years. With our experience and data from making over 1,000,000 chairs a year, plus our proprietary and patented designs and technologies, we are now confident that we’re several years (and millions of chairs) ahead of the competition. We have no intention of ever giving up our lead and will continue to invest to make sure we are at the forefront of sitting ergonomics. Empirical research and studies back our theories The vast majority of our users can attest to the long-term comfort and support Secretlab chairs provide. However, they often can’t explain exactly why they like our chairs, and traditional ergonomic myths remain as prevalent as ever. Hence, we’ve decided to detail our approach to ergonomics, **including empirical research studies**, [here](https://secretlab.co/pages/ergonomics#white_papers). Thank you all once again for the incredible support over the last few years. We fully intend to continue to deliver the best chairs and desks in the world. ![User tests being run on the Secretlab TITAN Evo](https://images.secretlab.co/theme/common/ergonomics_daily_matters.jpg) Every detail matters ### How we obsessively design for comfort throughout your 12-hour days When you sit on a Secretlab chair, you’re feeling the hundreds of tiny design decisions that we obsessed over, again and again. **Conclusion** The overall results indicate that there was not a substantial difference in user experience during a long bout of sitting in chairs of foam or mesh material. ![University of California, Berkeley logo](https://images.secretlab.co/theme/common/ergonomics-california-university-logo.png) University of California, Berkeley *Human Factors and Ergonomics Program* Consistently ranked among the four top research universities in the world, UC Berkeley’s world-class faculty and researchers lead the way in pushing the boundaries in their respective fields. **Conclusion** Adjusting armrests according to established ergonomic guidelines increases micromotion that may be helpful in reducing low back pain associated with sitting. Prior to gaming, subjects sat for 15 minutes in the chair. Dynamic muscle stiffness \[N/m\] was tested using oscillation frequency \[Hz\]. **Conclusion** This study found minimal differences in muscle stiffness between the TITAN Evo chair and the Aeron chair.
