Jesse Eisenberg is appropriately impenetrable, while Andrew Garfield brings some humanity to the story. Nevertheless, there's the nagging question of whether Zuckerberg's life actually asks for this collection of talent to relate it, and the sense that they could probably have picked a random name out of a hat and made something equally if not more compelling. This movie came out 14 years ago and I still can't get enough of it. In many ways, I think it's one of the most influential movies of the 21st century. Not just because of its subject matter but because it basically invented/solidified a new aesthetic of postmodern filmmaking. This was the first movie that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross scored and their efforts created a masterpiece. The music is mesmerizing, moody, and enhances the film's sense of immersion. The Social Network isn't just a plot-driven narrative based on a bestselling book and Mark Zuckerbarg's life - it's literally an entire vibe.
