The Shining is terrifying and thrilling. It fully lived up to expectations, and the actors knocked it out of the ballpark. That said, it's one of those great films that inspired so many films after it that watching it in the modern day can feel underwhelming. You've seen this referenced and parodied so many times that you've almost seen the movie even if you've never watched.
