Teaching
### **Teaching with the Tool**
Google Translate is a free tool that provides automatic translation which allows teachers and students to translate documents, speech, images, text, and handwriting to support communication and inclusion. With Google Translate, a teacher can communicate with parents and students with different language needs.
A teacher can use Google Translate to:
- Translate audio and text messages to or from students and parents/families
- Upload documents or the URL link of a webpage to translate its content
- Perform real-time translation
- Use cellphone cameras to translate written words in signs, books, menus, etc.
- Encourage communication among students who speak different languages
- Help parents who speak a different language navigate through the school’s web page or documents
- Support students who are learning a second language
Google Translate supports translation to different languages using different inputs such as audio, text, and images which can be used for immediate in-class translations; however, teachers should consider that the translations provided might not be completely accurate. As a translation tool, Google Translate can support the inclusion of diverse students to the classroom and the content.
Implementation
### **Implementation Process**
The functionality of Google Translate makes this tool inclusive of students and families who do not speak English. This tool allows for audio and text translation. With this feature, a teacher or student can dictate a word or phrase that they want to translate and then listen to the translation in the chosen language.
Any data shared through Google accounts to access the translator will fall under [Google’s privacy policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en-US), which states that its data is protected by third-party companies. For school-provided accounts, the school owns the data, and Google secure servers and services ensure the protection of these data.
