| Boilerpipe Text | Who doesn’t love a good camera rumor? And, man, this one is a doozy. The buzz is that a Canon EOS R3 Mark II camera has been seen being used at the Milan Winter Olympics over the past few weeks, which has sparked lots of theories about what the camera might be and what it might offer.
The current Canon R3 is still out and still a popular option, but with it now being around five years old, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Canon roll out a new Mark II version here soon. Here’s what we know so far.
Rumored Canon EOS R3 Mark II
According to reports from
The New Camera
, which is pulling some updates from the Chinese social media handle Camera Beta, a Canon EOS R3 Mark II camera has been witnessed at the Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. The same reports share some specs and other details that are hard to confirm, but interesting nonetheless.
The big news here is that, if true, an R3 Mark II would be a likely candidate to feature a dual native resolution back-illuminated stackable CMOS sensor that would feature 54MP and 24MP imagery.
Obviously, if this camera were being used at the Winter Olympics, its primary use would likely have been for photography, so this would be a photography-focused camera first and foremost, most likely. But as we see with the current R3, it can still likely pack a punch for video.

And, from the same reports, which we’re taking with a grain of salt right now, this potential new R3 Mark II could include in-camera 9K 60 RAW video recording, which would be quite a punch indeed. The same reports indicate that 6K 120p RAW could be an option, as well as full-pixel autofocus, which could be maintained during video recording.
Again, are all of these specs official or confirmed? Absolutely not at this point. But with multiple reports running with these rumors, it isn’t outside the realm of possibilities that a new camera like an R3 Mark II—with specs comparable to these—could be announced soon.
So stay tuned.
