Eclipse Maps Two total solar eclipses occurred in the U.S. in the span of about seven years, the first on August 21, 2017, and the second on April 8, 2024. Because the 2017 eclipse traveled from northwest to southeast and the 2024 eclipse traveled from southwest to northeast, the two paths crossed each other over an area spanning parts of Missouri, Illinois, and Kentucky.
