Amazon provides a pretty irresistible shopping experience through its speedy shipping (among other Prime member perks), vast range of products, and unbeatable prices.
Prime Day
(formally called
Prime Big Deal Days
in October), in particular, can often lead to some regretful
impulse buys
. Psst: Just because something is down to its lowest price ever doesn't mean you
need
it.
With another Amazon shopping holiday on the horizon, officially kicking off on Oct. 7, you may be wondering how to return unwanted items purchased at Amazon. Whether you fall victim to the inevitable
Prime Day
impulse buys, end up with a broken item, or accidentally order two of something, it's actually pretty simple to make returns in 2025.
Here's the step-by-step process to return your Amazon packages:
Go to
Amazon's website
and click on
Returns and Order
s in the top-right corner of the screen. If you want to make a return on your
Amazon app
, the process is similar. On the app, click on the
three horizontal lines
at the bottom right of the screen. Then click on
Orders
and follow the same steps.
A new page displaying your latest orders will appear. Scroll down to the item you want to return and click on the
Return or replace items
right next to the item listing.
The next page that opens up will have a drop-down menu with a list of reasons for returning the item. Select whichever option applies to your purchase and then click the yellow
Continue
button.
Then you will get the option to refund the balance to your
Amazon account
or
debit/credit card
. Pick what you prefer — refunds to bank cards usually take a week or so, while refunds to your Amazon account wallet are pretty immediate.
The last part of the online return process is choosing where you'll drop your return off. Amazon is pretty flexible with return methods: You can drop off the item for free at your nearest UPS Store, Kohl's, Whole Foods, Staples, or Amazon Store. You can also schedule a UPS pick-up for $7.99. Once you select a method, you'll receive a QR code that can be used to return the package at the drop-off location. If you choose UPS or Kohl's, no original packaging, tape, or shipping label is necessary — just bring the item and scan it.
Credit: Screenshot: Amazon
Though Amazon touts "free returns" on many products, you may see a mystery $1 fee on your account if you did your return at a UPS store. As of April 2023,
Amazon has been charging a $1 fee
for items returned to UPS when there is a Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh store, or Kohl’s closer to their delivery address.
Mashable Deals
While the return process is fairly intuitive, Amazon's return policy
can be tricky for some purchases. While the
website
states that most items can be returned in their original packaging with no missing parts within 30 days of receipt, regardless of whether they've been opened, there are some notable exceptions. Some luxury items cannot be returned once opened, for instance. And if you purchased an item on Amazon from a third-party seller, that seller might have their own return policy that differs from Amazon's. Meanwhile,
not all items can be returned
, such as digital orders, gift cards, and groceries purchased through Amazon Fresh.
Google's newest Gemma model is now both open-weight and open-source
Google just released its newest AI model Gemma 4, which is now both open and open source.
Credit: Thomas Fuller/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images
Google
just released the latest version of its open AI model, Gemma 4, on Thursday. Crucially, Gemma 4 is a fully open-source model licensed under Apache 2.0, which is typically not the case with frontier models.
Open models can be run locally on users' devices, and Google says Gemma 4 can be run on "billions of Android devices" and some laptop GPUs.
"This open-source license provides a foundation for complete developer flexibility and digital sovereignty; granting you complete control over your data, infrastructure, and models," a
Google blog post reads
. "It allows you to build freely and deploy securely across any environment, whether on-premises or in the cloud."
Most people have likely heard of Google's popular
Gemini AI model
, thanks to the ubiquitous AI chatbot that's been integrated into many of Google's products.
Gemma
is also a large language model (LLM) and was developed from the exact same technology and research that Google DeepMind used to build Gemini 3.
Google is calling Gemma 4 its "most capable" open AI model yet.
Gemma vs. Gemini?
So, how is Gemma different from Gemini?
Gemini is Google's proprietary subscription AI product, and the name of Google's family of multimodal AI models. Gemini has been integrated into virtually all of Google's core products, including Google Search, Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Cloud.
Gemma 4, however, is an open AI model, meaning that the code and data that it's trained on are shared with its user base. Gemma AI models can be run off of a user's local hardware, even without an internet connection. Anyone can download Gemma 4 and run it off their device for free. These open AI models provide a more private and secure experience, as none of the chats, uploaded files, or answers are shared with a third party.
Developers could use open AI models like Gemma 4 in order to integrate AI into their own applications without the need for any recurring subscription costs.
What is Gemma 4?
Gemma 4 brings some advanced capabilities to Google's open AI model family.
According to Google's announcement, Gemma 4 is now capable of advanced reasoning, which includes multi-step planning and deep logic. Google says it has made "significant improvements in math and instruction-following benchmarks that require it" with Gemma 4.
Gemma 4 now also supports processes that are required for agentic workflows and localizes AI coding assistance. In addition, Gemma 4 can process audio and video for speech recognition and interpreting visuals such as charts.Â
Gemma 4 is available in four sizes based on the number of weights used to power the model:Â two billion, four billion, 26 billion, and 31 billion.
Hugging Face
reports that these open-weight models are available in pre-trained and instruction-tuned variants, offering even more flexibility for developers.
The AI model has been trained on more than 140 languages and has a context window up to 256,000 tokens, according to Google. (The smaller E2B and E4B variants have a context window of 128,000, however.)
Gemma 4 is now open
and
open source
Now, open doesn't mean
open source
when it comes to AI models.
Previous iterations of Gemma were open-weight (meaning the training datasets are publicly available) but were still bound by Google's terms, even if users were allowed to download the model onto their device. While users could modify the local LLM, they still had to operate under Google's rules on its use and redistribution.
With Gemma 4, Google has now made the model open
and
open source.
Google is distributing Gemma 4 under the popular open source software license Apache 2.0.
Under this license, anyone can download and modify Gemma 4 and use it for any purpose, whether for personal or commercial use cases. Gemma 4 can be redistributed without any royalty requirements as well. Basically, the only requirement under the Apache 2.0 license is attribution, and the license must be distributed alongside the AI model.
Looking for Gemma 4? Hot to try it.
Gemma 4 can be found in
Google AI studio
and can be downloaded from third-parties such asÂ
Hugging Face
,
Kaggle
, or
Ollama
.

## What is Gemma 4?
Gemma 4 brings some advanced capabilities to Google's open AI model family.
According to Google's announcement, Gemma 4 is now capable of advanced reasoning, which includes multi-step planning and deep logic. Google says it has made "significant improvements in math and instruction-following benchmarks that require it" with Gemma 4.
Gemma 4 now also supports processes that are required for agentic workflows and localizes AI coding assistance. In addition, Gemma 4 can process audio and video for speech recognition and interpreting visuals such as charts.
Gemma 4 is available in four sizes based on the number of weights used to power the model: two billion, four billion, 26 billion, and 31 billion.
[Hugging Face](https://huggingface.co/google/gemma-4-E4B "(opens in a new window)") reports that these open-weight models are available in pre-trained and instruction-tuned variants, offering even more flexibility for developers.
The AI model has been trained on more than 140 languages and has a context window up to 256,000 tokens, according to Google. (The smaller E2B and E4B variants have a context window of 128,000, however.)
## Gemma 4 is now open *and* open source
Now, open doesn't mean *open source* when it comes to AI models.
Previous iterations of Gemma were open-weight (meaning the training datasets are publicly available) but were still bound by Google's terms, even if users were allowed to download the model onto their device. While users could modify the local LLM, they still had to operate under Google's rules on its use and redistribution.
With Gemma 4, Google has now made the model open *and* open source.
## Looking for Gemma 4? Hot to try it.
Gemma 4 can be found in [Google AI studio](https://deepmind.google/models/gemma/gemma-4/ "(opens in a new window)") and can be downloaded from third-parties such as [Hugging Face](https://huggingface.co/collections/google/gemma-4 "(opens in a new window)"), [Kaggle](https://www.kaggle.com/models/google/gemma-4 "(opens in a new window)"), or [Ollama](https://ollama.com/library/gemma4 "(opens in a new window)").

Amazon provides a pretty irresistible shopping experience through its speedy shipping (among other Prime member perks), vast range of products, and unbeatable prices. [Prime Day](https://mashable.com/article/amazon-oct-prime-day-early-deals-2025) (formally called [Prime Big Deal Days](https://mashable.com/article/prime-big-deal-days-2025-everything-to-know) in October), in particular, can often lead to some regretful [impulse buys](https://mashable.com/article/when-is-the-next-prime-day). Psst: Just because something is down to its lowest price ever doesn't mean you *need* it.
With another Amazon shopping holiday on the horizon, officially kicking off on Oct. 7, you may be wondering how to return unwanted items purchased at Amazon. Whether you fall victim to the inevitable [Prime Day](https://mashable.com/category/prime-day) impulse buys, end up with a broken item, or accidentally order two of something, it's actually pretty simple to make returns in 2025.
Here's the step-by-step process to return your Amazon packages:
1. Go to [Amazon's website](https://zdcs.link/av48o0?pageview_type=Standard&template=article&module=content_body&element=offer&item=text-link&element_label=Amazon%27s+website&object_type=article&object_uuid=01v5P9H6VtPKfAy1LQbLy4p&short_url=av48o0&u=https%3A%2F%2Fmashable.com%2Farticle%2Fhow-to-return-amazon-packages&session_uuid=76c23684-81f7-43c6-9235-d09574d9f441&view_instance_uuid=2372dcd3-1914-406f-a08b-3ae5c253a20d "(opens in a new window)") and click on **Returns and Order**s in the top-right corner of the screen. If you want to make a return on your **Amazon app**, the process is similar. On the app, click on the **three horizontal lines** at the bottom right of the screen. Then click on **Orders** and follow the same steps.
2. A new page displaying your latest orders will appear. Scroll down to the item you want to return and click on the **Return or replace items** right next to the item listing.
3. The next page that opens up will have a drop-down menu with a list of reasons for returning the item. Select whichever option applies to your purchase and then click the yellow **Continue** button.
4. Then you will get the option to refund the balance to your **Amazon account** or **debit/credit card**. Pick what you prefer — refunds to bank cards usually take a week or so, while refunds to your Amazon account wallet are pretty immediate.
5. The last part of the online return process is choosing where you'll drop your return off. Amazon is pretty flexible with return methods: You can drop off the item for free at your nearest UPS Store, Kohl's, Whole Foods, Staples, or Amazon Store. You can also schedule a UPS pick-up for \$7.99. Once you select a method, you'll receive a QR code that can be used to return the package at the drop-off location. If you choose UPS or Kohl's, no original packaging, tape, or shipping label is necessary — just bring the item and scan it.

Though Amazon touts "free returns" on many products, you may see a mystery \$1 fee on your account if you did your return at a UPS store. As of April 2023, [Amazon has been charging a \$1 fee](https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/12/business/amazon-returns-ups-store-fee/index.html "(opens in a new window)") for items returned to UPS when there is a Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh store, or Kohl’s closer to their delivery address.
Mashable Deals
While the return process is fairly intuitive, Amazon's return policycan be tricky for some purchases. While the [website](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=sxts_snpl_5_2_6fd9f164-fecc-4e0d-a639-d4c765a01a32?nodeId=GKM69DUUYKQWKWX7 "(opens in a new window)") states that most items can be returned in their original packaging with no missing parts within 30 days of receipt, regardless of whether they've been opened, there are some notable exceptions. Some luxury items cannot be returned once opened, for instance. And if you purchased an item on Amazon from a third-party seller, that seller might have their own return policy that differs from Amazon's. Meanwhile, [not all items can be returned](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=GMZNGRA9B5PCJB5F "(opens in a new window)"), such as digital orders, gift cards, and groceries purchased through Amazon Fresh.

Google's newest Gemma model is now both open-weight and open-source

Google just released its newest AI model Gemma 4, which is now both open and open source. Credit: Thomas Fuller/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images
[Google](https://mashable.com/category/google) just released the latest version of its open AI model, Gemma 4, on Thursday. Crucially, Gemma 4 is a fully open-source model licensed under Apache 2.0, which is typically not the case with frontier models.
Open models can be run locally on users' devices, and Google says Gemma 4 can be run on "billions of Android devices" and some laptop GPUs.
"This open-source license provides a foundation for complete developer flexibility and digital sovereignty; granting you complete control over your data, infrastructure, and models," a [Google blog post reads](https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/technology/developers-tools/gemma-4/ "(opens in a new window)"). "It allows you to build freely and deploy securely across any environment, whether on-premises or in the cloud."
Most people have likely heard of Google's popular [Gemini AI model](https://mashable.com/category/gemini), thanks to the ubiquitous AI chatbot that's been integrated into many of Google's products.
[Gemma](https://mashable.com/article/google-announcement-open-source-ai-model-gemma) is also a large language model (LLM) and was developed from the exact same technology and research that Google DeepMind used to build Gemini 3.
Google is calling Gemma 4 its "most capable" open AI model yet.
## Gemma vs.

You can choose between two colors at this low price.
