These easy Swedish Meatballs are covered in a rich and creamy sauce that is ready in about 15 minutes. They’re perfect served over noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes. My favorite types of meals are ones that are made quickly, easily, and that my whole family loves. These Swedish meatballs perfectly fit that description. For another beefy favorite, try this Ground Beef Stroganoff . Swedish meatballs are one of those ultimate comfort food type of dishes. Who doesn’t love meatballs, topped with a rich and creamy, gravy like sauce. They’re so delicious served over pasta noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes. Carbs + meat + creamy sauce = the best kind of comfort meals. Not in the mood for creamy meatballs, try these Enchilada Meatballs instead. I used frozen meatballs, to help this meal come together extra quickly. You can of course make your own homemade meatballs , which will add about 30 minutes time to your dish. But with meatballs from the store, this dish comes together in about 15 minutes, which makes this dish a win in my book. Easy Swedish Meatball Ingredients unsalted butter all purpose flour beef broth heavy cream Worcestershire sauce salt black pepper frozen meatballs How to Make Swedish Meatballs Cook your rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes. Make a roux  by melting butter in a large saute pan. Add in the flour and stir them together, let it cook for a couple minutes until it gets fragrant and starts to turn brown. Make the sauce . Add in the beef broth and heavy cream slowly, then stir the mixture until its smooth. Add in the Worcestershire sauce,  salt , and pepper. Let the sauce simmer on low heat while you heat up your meatballs. Add the meatballs.  Heat up the meatballs for a few minutes in the microwave or air fryer (especially if they are frozen) until thawed and slightly warm. Add them to the sauce and continue to simmer for about 5 minutes. Serve over your noodles, or rice. Easy Swedish Meatballs with Frozen Meatballs FAQs What makes Swedish meatballs different from regular meatballs? Swedish meatballs are one type of meatball that is made with a light brown, creamy sauce, over the top. The sauce is a roux based (butter and flour mixture) gravy flavored with beef broth and cream. Why is my Swedish meatball sauce not thickening? If your sauce is not thickening that means you probably added too much liquid, or did not have enough roux base to thicken it. That shouldn’t be an issue with this recipe, but make sure to follow the ingredients as listed. You also need to make sure you cook the sauce long enough as it will thicken as it cooks. If it’s still too thin after following the recipe you can try simmering the sauce longer to let some of the extra liquid evaporate, or make a slurry of 1 TBS cornstarch, 1 TBS cold water and stir it into the sauce. Let it come to a simmer after adding, and then it should thicken up as it cooks. Swedish meatballs are a delicious, hearty, and comforting meal. The creamy gravy like sauce is perfect with the meatballs, and on top of your favorite carbs.  This recipe is perfect for busy moms like me, or anyone who wants a quick meal. Who wants to be in the kitchen slaving over a meal, when you can have something quick and delicious like these swedish meatballs ready in almost no time?! I’m not sure if milk would be too thin. - Jennifer says [April 17, 2024 at 4:03 PM](https://lmld.org/easy-swedish-meatballs/#comment-447834) Sour cream works also 10. Where live here in Sweden, you most often see meatballs served with Brown Sauce (gravy) and mashed or boiled potatoes. I have have them in a cream sauce but never with noddles. Great idea, I’ll give this a try on some of my Swedish friends. These Swedish meatballs perfectly fit that description. For another beefy favorite, try this [Ground Beef Stroganoff](https://thecrumbykitchen.com/one-pot-ground-beef-stroganoff/). Not in the mood for creamy meatballs, try these [Enchilada Meatballs](https://littlehousebigalaska.com/2023/08/enchilada-meatballs.html) instead. ![A plate of swedish meatballs over egg noodles, and topped with fresh parsley.](https://lmld.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/easy-swedish-meatballs-4-1.jpg) I used frozen meatballs, to help this meal come together extra quickly. You can of course make your own [homemade meatballs](https://lmld.org/italian-meatballs/), which will add about 30 minutes time to your dish. But with meatballs from the store, this dish comes together in about 15 minutes, which makes this dish a win in my book. ## Easy Swedish Meatball Ingredients ![](https://lmld.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/easy-swedish-meatballs-ingredients-819x1024.jpg) - unsalted butter - all purpose flour - beef broth - heavy cream - Worcestershire sauce - salt - black pepper - frozen meatballs ![Swedish meatballs in a pot, in a creamy white gravy sauce, and sprinkled with fresh parsley.](https://lmld.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/easy-swedish-meatballs-8.jpg) ### How to Make Swedish Meatballs 1. **Cook your rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes.** 2. **Make a roux** by melting butter in a large saute pan. Add in the beef broth and heavy cream slowly, then stir the mixture until its smooth. Add in the Worcestershire sauce, [salt](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QW1G8MW?tag=likmotlikdauf-20), and pepper. Let the sauce simmer on low heat while you heat up your meatballs. 4. **Add the meatballs.** Heat up the meatballs for a few minutes in the microwave or air fryer (especially if they are frozen) until thawed and slightly warm. The sauce is a roux based (butter and flour mixture) gravy flavored with beef broth and cream. ****Why is my Swedish meatball sauce not thickening?**** If your sauce is not thickening that means you probably added too much liquid, or did not have enough roux base to thicken it. ![A plate of swedish meatballs over egg noodles, and topped with fresh parsley.](https://lmld.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/easy-swedish-meatballs-2-1.jpg) Swedish meatballs are a delicious, hearty, and comforting meal.
