No more standing in lines at the cafe. No more over-priced coffees. Your homemade cold-brew will make the best iced-coffee that you’ve ever had! I’m telling you, it’s perfection. Fans of cold-brew talk about the finish – it’s less acidic, less bitter than coffee brewed with hot water. There’s a science behind it – and it’s more flavourful. What I love too, is that it seems fancy, but there’s absolutely no fuss to making cold brewed coffee. You don’t need special tools and you’ll have the best tasting coffee, on-the-ready for the week. Let me show you how to make it: A cold-brew is done by steeping the coffee grains in cold water for 8-12 hours. It’s a rich concentrate, which you can then mix with your milk of choice and flavourings. I’ve been brewing mine in a large Ball Mason Jar, but you can make it in a tupperware container or a plunger coffee maker. With anything, quality ingredients will give you the best results – so get yourself some good,  fresh coffee grounds. fill your container with 1 cup of coffee grounds. If you have small jars, split it into two smell that! mmm! I’m experimenting here – and added a quarter of a vanilla pod, which I sliced open. I’ve seen recipes that talk about adding in ground cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice – so you can play with flavourings if you want. And then top it off with water. You’ll want to give it a good stir to get the coffee to sink in throughout. Seal it and let it sit on the counter for 8-12 hours (overnight) and then you’re ready to strain out the coffee grains. Now, let’s talk tools If you’re using a coffee plunger, let it steep and then hit the plunger when you’re ready to strain. If you’ve steeped it in a jar, like mine – then use a coffee filter or cheese-cloth and strainer. ( you may want to keep those grains for a body scrub ) After you strain it,  keep the cold brew in an airtight container, in the fridge for 5 days to a week (if it lasts!) Now, let’s talk flavourings. My go-to has been a glass of ice, half cold brew, half almond milk and a tiny, tiny dash of maple syrup to sweeten. But, you are the leader of your ice-latte, so go with what you love. Cold Brew Coffee Recipe 1 cup ground coffee 3 cups water in a mason jar or coffee plunger – add the grounds and water it can be a 3:1 ration or 4:1 ratio (water to coffee), depending on how strong you like it cover the lid and let it steep at room temperature for 8-12 hours strain out the grounds keep your cold brew in an air-tight container Lasts 5 days in the fridge I really hope you give this recipe a go. You’ll love how simple it is to make, and how amazing it tastes! If you haven’t tried a cold-brew yet, I think you’ll be surprised at how smooth it is!
