Frequently Asked Questions
Can I trust my private Well water?
Well water is untreated and can vary month-to-month, often containing bacteria, iron, sediment, sulfur odors, and other natural contaminants. A whole-home system adds protection and consistent water quality for either source.
Do I still need a whole-house system if I already use a refrigerator or sink filter?
Point-of-use filters only treat small amounts of drinking water. A whole-house system ensures every tap— including showers, laundry, dishwashers, and outdoor faucets — gets filtered, conditioned water.
Are Kind Water systems easy to install?
Yes. Our systems use simplified, single-manifold designs that many homeowners install themselves. They can also be installed by any local plumber—no special certification required. Our US-based water experts are available 6 days a week to help with any questions.
If I move, can I take my Kind Water system with me?
Yes. Our systems can be removed and reinstalled at your new home if plumbing access is available.
Will a Kind system remove chlorine, taste, and odor?
Yes. Our NSF/ANSI 42 certified carbon filtration is designed to reduce chlorine, taste, and odor.
How often do I need to change the filters?
Most sediment and carbon filters last 6–12 months depending on usage and water quality. UV lamps last 12 months under continuous operation.
What is the difference between salt-free conditioners and salt-based softeners?
Salt-free conditioners use TAC to prevent scale without removing minerals, salt, brine discharge, or slippery water. They require no maintenance and create no wastewater, making them ideal for low to medium hardness levels. Salt-based softeners remove hardness minerals using ion exchange. They require salt refills every 4–6 weeks and produce brine discharge, making them ideal for high hardness levels.
How does a salt-free system work?
Salt-free systems use Template Assisted Crystallization (TAC) to condition water by preventing scale buildup without adding salt. Unlike a salt-based system that removes minerals like calcium and magnesium, the ESOFT system retains beneficial minerals, so minor evaporative deposits may still occur. There is no maintenance, no heavy salt bags, and no brine discharge. Salt-based systems are banned or restricted in some states and municipalities including parts of Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Texas, and Wisconsin.
How do I determine which system is best for my well water?
Well water varies greatly by location. The best first step is to have your water tested. Results will determine if you need an iron filter, softener, UV, reverse osmosis, or a combination. Order your
Water Test
or call our US-based water experts for guidance.
Why would I need a UV disinfection system?
For City water, UV provides an added layer of protection against microbes. Even treated water systems can have boil-water advisories, main breaks, or contamination events. UV sterilizes 99.9% of bacteria and viruses. For Well water, we strongly recommend UV.
Will a Kind system affect my water pressure?
When installed correctly, Kind systems are designed to provide 12–15 GPM, which is enough to run up to 5 simultaneous showers and appliances with no noticeable pressure drop in 98% of US homes with up to 5 bathrooms.
Which filters do I need when buying replacements?
Each system uses specific sediment and carbon filter sizes, plus TAC cartridges and UV lamps where applicable. Exact replacements are listed on every product page, and our Autoship program ensures the right items arrive on schedule.
How quickly will my order ship?
Orders placed before 2 PM EST ship the same business day. Most customers receive their order within 1–5 business days.
What is the warranty and satisfaction guarantee?
All Kind systems include a limited lifetime warranty on tanks, a 7-year warranty on electronic components, and a 120-day satisfaction guarantee — return it for any reason.
Do you offer installation?
We don’t send installers, but any plumber can install our systems. We can recommend one based on your location. Many customers choose DIY installation because our systems are designed to be straightforward.
Where are Kind Water systems made?
Filtration components, media, carbon blocks, and TAC cartridges are made in the USA and Italy. UV chambers and electronics are sourced from Canada.
Does Kind remove fluoride?
Standard whole-house filtration does not remove fluoride. Fluoride removal requires a point-of-use reverse osmosis system. You can purchase it
here
.
What are the most common problems with well water?
The most frequent issues include hardness (scale), iron and manganese (staining, metallic taste), sulfur (rotten-egg odor), sediment (cloudiness or clogged fixtures), and bacteria (potential health risks). |
