| Boilerpipe Text | EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) —
A four-fight, all-championship women’s boxing card is coming to El Paso with Stephanie Han set to return to the ring May 30 at the Coliseum for her third world title defense, a rematch she said “just makes sense” to stage in the Southwest.
Han, who is from El Paso, will face Holly Holm. “This fight just makes sense to have it here in the Southwest, and I’m very fortunate, very happy that it’s actually here in my city, El Paso, Texas,” Han said.
The matchup is a rematch after their first fight in Puerto Rico on Jan. 3 ended early. Han said the bout ended because of “an accidental headbutt,” leaving “always controversy of what could have happened.”
“So this one, I don’t want there to be any accidental headbutts and leave no excuses,” Han said. “So hopefully either goes a distance or there’s a knockout.”
KFOX14/CBS4 Photojournalist Mario Lopez gives us a preview of the event.

Also in the ring is unified featherweight champion Amanda Serrano, who is set to co-headline the Most Valuable Promotions event for a title defense.
Most Valuable Promotions and ESPN announced that Serrano, the unified featherweight champion, will face Germany’s top-ranked contender, Cheyenne “Pepper” Hanson, in a 10-round championship bout for the unified WBA and WBO world titles at 126 pounds.
The Serrano-Hanson fight will serve as part of the double main event of MVPW-03, alongside the headlining Stephanie Han vs. Holly Holm rematch for the WBA lightweight world title.
MVPW-03 is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, at the El Paso County Coliseum in El Paso.
Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com.
The event will also be live on ESPN and the ESPN App. The event is set to begin at 9 p.m. ET/7 p.m. MT on ESPN.
Serrano, who is listed at 48-4-1 with 31 KOs, is described as the first-ever Puerto Rican undisputed world champion and the most decorated fighter in women’s boxing history. She is recognized by Guinness World Records for the most boxing world championships won by a female in different weight classes.
Serrano currently holds the WBO, WBA, and Ring Magazine titles at featherweight and is MVP’s first signee, with a lifetime combat sports contract.
Serrano most recently made a homecoming to Puerto Rico in January 2026, defeating challenger Reina Tellez in a unified featherweight title defense of her WBO and WBA titles.
“When MVP told me that Han and Holm were going to rematch in Stephanie’s hometown of El Paso, I said I want to get on the card to support these two queens,” Serrano said. “Women’s boxing is growing on a global level, and fights like this, now on ESPN and contested in three-minute rounds, are proof of how far we’ve come. I respect every opponent who steps in the ring, and I know Hanson is coming to win, and she has KO power. I’m also continuing to hunt the all-time knockout record, so that’s always on my mind, but everything starts with discipline, execution, and performing at the highest level on fight night. Stephanie Han is all class, and it is my pleasure to come to her city and make the walk before her on Saturday, May 30th. See you soon, El Paso.”
Hanson, 28, is from Augsburg, Bayern, and is listed at 17-2 with 13 KOs. Hanson is a former WBF world champion who is currently the No. 4 WBO and No. 6 WBA contender in the featherweight division, with her last two wins coming by TKO in December 2025 and March 2026. Hanson signed with MVP in April 2026, and the Serrano bout will be her promotional debut.
“I’m really excited and grateful for this fight,” Hanson said. “It means a lot to be representing Germany on this stage. Training camp is going to be hard, but I’m focused. I respect my opponent, but I’m coming to make a statement.”
Meanwhile, previously speaking to KFOX14/CBS4, Han said she is excited to make her third world title defense in a rematch with Holm.
"I am so excited," Han said. "This is what people dream of. El Paso is my city and my home. I now have the biggest platform with ESPN coming, and the whole world gets to see El Paso. When I was in the ring with her, I realized she is just another human being," Han said. "Now I know that I am strong, capable, and my skills are great. I am going in there with confidence. The gameplan doesn't change much, but hopefully I get a knock out. I am working on my power."
MVP co-founders Nakisa Bidarian and Jake Paul described the event as a “quadruple world championship card” and said it is “highlighted by the highly anticipated ESPN debut of Amanda Serrano.”
“Amanda continues to set the global standard for women’s boxing, and matching her in a title defense against a dangerous knockout artist like Cheyenne Hanson creates a blockbuster double main event alongside Stephanie Han vs. Holly Holm,” Bidarian and Paul said. “This is a powerful statement about where women’s boxing stands today. Add in the return of Desley Robinson and the expected war in the Mexico vs. Costa Rica matchup between Lourdes Juarez and Yokasta Valle, and this night is going to be fireworks in El Paso.”
MVPW on ESPN is expected to feature a main card composed entirely of female fighters, with an undercard that includes a mix of female and male bouts.

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Global volunteer organization, ASEZ WAO, brought their cause to El Paso with the objective to make a lasting impact through their tree-planting efforts.
[With a name that means](https://asezwao.org/intro/) "Let us save the earth from the beginning to the end as one family", ASEZ WAO is affiliated with the World Mission Society Church of God.
Sunday morning, ASEZ WAO, in collaboration with 915 Tree Keepers, gathered at Paul Harvey Park and were met by roughly 60 volunteers ready to help plant trees.

Their tree planting campaign goes by the name of "Mother's Forest," in which the organization is working towards its mission of planting 7 billion trees to reduce greenhouse gases and to cope with climate change.
Lupe Anchondo, a member of the World Mission Society Church of God and working with ASEZ WAO, shared how they hope to create a better future.
"Every small effort that you see here, community members, volunteer members from the ASEZ WAO Church of God —all our efforts, everything that we are doing is for the future generations, so we can take care of our community—take care of our world by making a positive impact," Anchondo said.
According to [asezwao.org](https://asezwao.org/mothers-forest/), volunteers have helped plant 6,839 trees in a total of 14 countries thus far, with the El Paso stop contributing 25 trees planted at today's event.
City Representative for District One, Alejandra Chávez, was also in attendance. Rep. Chávez emphasized the importance of the tree-planting initiative for the community.
"What we want is to create better environments and spaces for our community," Rep. Chávez said. "This improves everybody's quality of life, and it improves our environment as well."
Rep. Chávez also encouraged her constituents to contact the City of El Paso, and her office specifically, if they'd like to request that trees be planted in their neighborhood.
"We all want spaces that represent the pride we feel as El Pasoans, and these trees will be just that," Chávez said.
Rep. Chávez's office can be contacted via email at district1@elpasotexas.gov. A neighborhood nomination form for tree adoption can also be filled out from the [elpasotexas.gov](https://www.elpasotexas.gov/community-and-human-development/915-tree-keepers/) website.

Counter-drone technology will be used along the southern border after being deemed safe by the Federal Aviation Administration and the Pentagon.
According to the Trump administration, a safety assessment of the counter-drone system found it does not pose an undue risk to passenger aircraft. The Pentagon said it will continue coordinating with the FAA to deploy the system and ensure civilian air traffic services are not impacted.
The announcement follows an earlier incident in El Paso in which anti-drone lasers prompted the FAA to shut down parts of Texas airspace over the borderland.
In February, the El Paso airport announced that the airspace was shut down indefinitely. The closure lasted a few hours and caused several cancellations at the airport.
The Trump administration blamed the issue on drug cartels flying drones, but multiple reports said the closure was triggered by the Pentagon testing a new anti-drone defense system without giving the FAA enough time to assess the danger to commercial flights.

EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A four-fight, all-championship women’s boxing card is coming to El Paso with Stephanie Han set to return to the ring May 30 at the Coliseum for her third world title defense, a rematch she said “just makes sense” to stage in the Southwest.

LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO (KFOX14/CBS4) — A judge has rejected efforts by convicted mass shooter Tomas Rivas to overturn his guilty verdict in the Young Park mass shooting case, keeping in place his convictions for the deaths of three people.
Rivas, one of the three defendants convicted in the case, was found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder in the Young Park shooting that happened in March last year.
In court, Rivas’ defense team asked the judge to overturn the conviction or grant a new trial.
Following the trial and verdict in February, Rivas’ defense team filed three motions to dismiss the case.

**RELATED:** Convicted Young Park shooter Tomas Rivas appeals verdict, citing late report, jury issues
Court documents show defense attorneys argue prosecutors failed to prove Rivas was the cause of the deaths.
In the state’s response to the motions, documents show prosecutors admitted fault for not providing a report from Detective Andrew Contreras that was made in February 2026.
The report details interviews with witnesses.
Prosecutors argue the report is not sufficient to overturn the jury’s verdict.
On the defense claim of a lack of proof, the state’s response says Rivas arrived with a group and carried out the shooting, adding to the chaos.
Documents show the state believes the jury has already heard that argument.
District Attorney Fernando Macias said, “There is no question in terms of the volume of evidence that showed that Tomás Rivas was doing everything he could to kill Dominic Estrada.”
Judge Douglas Driggers denied the defense’s motions for acquittal and for a new trial.
Rivas’ attorney, Thomas Clark, said the ruling was expected and suggested the issues raised by the defense are likely to be addressed on appeal. “Not terribly surprised,” Clark said. “The issues we're raising are issues that go to the heart of the depraved mind murder statute and and you know judge Jiggers was proxy he was privy to the trial and really these are issues probably for the Supreme Court.”

The defense has also filed a separate motion alleging inappropriate communication involving a juror, raising concerns about whether the verdict was influenced by information outside the courtroom.
Regarding the allegation that a juror texted outside the trial, the state argues it is up to the defense to prove the alleged texts would have impacted the outcome.
The state also agreed to a hearing on that issue if it is proven.
A hearing on that motion is scheduled May 7th at 1:30 p.m., when the defense is expected to present evidence.
“When we found out that perhaps there was jury misconduct afoot we're not only ethical obligated as Mr. Rivas's lawyers to get to the bottom of this,” Clark said. “But as office of the court this jury misconduct is is a potential jury misconduct is a scary thing because you wonder is the case being decided based on the evidence people here at trial or based on their personal feelings or preconceived feelings of guilt or innocence.”

“So this one, I don’t want there to be any accidental headbutts and leave no excuses,” Han said. “So hopefully either goes a distance or there’s a knockout.”
