Enter Truth Social, Trump’s own social media platform, which went live in February of this year to a\nmyriad of bugs and software problems\n. Yet\nusers still flock to the site\neven after the F\nBI searched his residence in Mar-a-Lago\n.\nIs Trump coming back to Twitter?\nIt’s complicated.\nIn April 2022 Elon Musk, the world’s\nmost terminally online\nbillionaire, announced that he was\npurchasing Twitter\nfor approximately $44 billion. This immediately led to speculation that the libertarian\ninternet troll\nwould re-activate Trump’s account.\nTrump initially said in April interview with Fox News that he had no interest in rejoining Twitter, even though he praised Elon Musk’s purchase of the platform. Trump elaborated that he would instead\nstay on Truth Social\n: “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH,” Trump said in the interview. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.” He also went on to say that Twitter got “boring” as Conservative voices were thrown off the platform.\nA few weeks later, Musk announced that\nhe would undo\nTrump’s permanent Twitter suspension. “I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake,” he said. But now that Twitter purchase \nmight not even go through.\nAnd then team Trump backtracked. A May 16th filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission —which is overseeing the process of taking Truth Social public—\nrevealed that\nwhile Trump is “generally obligated” to post to TruthSocial first, he can repost those messages to “another social media site” six hours later. It also warned that Trump “may make a post from a personal account related to political messaging, political fundraising or get-out-the-vote efforts on any social media site at any time.”\nSo yes, it looks like he’s coming back. The twice-impeached former President was banned from Twitter following his involvement in the [January 6 insurrection](https://gizmodo.com/january-6-public-hearing-donald-trump-1849039755), but has stated that he [may return to the platform](https://gizmodo.com/donald-trump-twitter-truth-social-elon-musk-ban-jan-6-1848930209) despite recent claims that [Elon Musk would reinstate](https://gizmodo.com/elon-musk-donald-trump-cancel-twitter-ban-1848906757) his Twitter account if [Musk’s acquisition](https://gizmodo.com/elon-musk-twitter-sec-bots-lawsuit-1849183376) of the social media platform goes through. ## Why was Donald Trump banned from Twitter? Donald Trump [was officially banned](https://gizmodo.com/jack-offs-trump-1846023346) from Twitter in January 2021 following his involvement in the[insurrection at the Capitol on January 6](https://gizmodo.com/january-6-public-hearing-donald-trump-1849039755). The company said [in a blog post:](https://blog.twitter.com/en_us/topics/company/2020/suspension) > After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence. It was in that moment the sun shined a little brighter, food tasted a little better, and the entire world breathed a sigh of relief. [Trump filed an injunction](https://gizmodo.com/trump-tells-judge-he-will-suffer-irreparable-harm-if-1847791256) in October 2021 to get his account reinstated, but that clearly amounted to nothing. ## Where can I read Trump’s deleted tweets? If you seek to revel in the wild world of Trump’s tweets pre-ban, I have bad and good news for you. The bad news is you can’t scroll through his Twitter feed, as that no longer exists. [A previous attempt](https://gizmodo.com/trumps-twitter-not-even-allowed-to-return-in-archival-f-1846639079) at archiving Trump’s tweets back on Twitter by the National Archives and Records Administration was squashed. Once he was booted from Twitter, Trump quickly realized the importance of an echo-chamber to scream into, and needed another venue to drum up support from his base of troglodytes. Enter Truth Social, Trump’s own social media platform, which went live in February of this year to a [myriad of bugs and software problems](https://gizmodo.com/trump-truth-social-problems-launch-presidents-day-app-s-1848574162). Yet[users still flock to the site](https://gizmodo.com/donald-trump-truth-social-fbi-raids-1849434405) even after the F[BI searched his residence in Mar-a-Lago](https://gizmodo.com/donald-trump-mar-a-lago-search-warrant-fbi-1849407450). ## Is Trump coming back to Twitter? It’s complicated. In April 2022 Elon Musk, the world’s [most terminally online](https://gizmodo.com/elon-musk-tesla-twitter-10-tweets-regret-1848798501) billionaire, announced that he was [purchasing Twitter](https://gizmodo.com/elon-musk-is-officially-buying-twitter-1848837212) for approximately \$44 billion. This immediately led to speculation that the libertarian [internet troll](https://gizmodo.com/elon-musk-twitter-doctors-wellbutrin-adderall-doctors-s-1848874236) would re-activate Trump’s account. Trump initially said in April interview with Fox News that he had no interest in rejoining Twitter, even though he praised Elon Musk’s purchase of the platform. Trump elaborated that he would instead [stay on Truth Social](https://gizmodo.com/trump-i-am-not-going-on-twitter-i-am-going-to-stay-o-1848839981): “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH,” Trump said in the interview. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.” He also went on to say that Twitter got “boring” as Conservative voices were thrown off the platform. A few weeks later, Musk announced that [he would undo](https://gizmodo.com/elon-musk-donald-trump-cancel-twitter-ban-1848906757) Trump’s permanent Twitter suspension. “I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake,” he said. But now that Twitter purchase [might not even go through.](https://gizmodo.com/twitter-elon-musk-shareholders-bots-1849524162) And then team Trump backtracked. A May 16th filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission —which is overseeing the process of taking Truth Social public— [revealed that](https://gizmodo.com/donald-trump-twitter-truth-social-elon-musk-ban-jan-6-1848930209) while Trump is “generally obligated” to post to TruthSocial first, he can repost those messages to “another social media site” six hours later. It also warned that Trump “may make a post from a personal account related to political messaging, political fundraising or get-out-the-vote efforts on any social media site at any time.” So yes, it looks like he’s coming back.
