Trump Media, the company founded by President Donald Trump that owns Truth Social, announced new changes to the social media platform on Tuesday. The most interesting one might be the ability to edit posts —or Truths, as they’re so obnoxiously called on Truth Social. President Trump puts all of his social media content on Truth Social first, which means that people who care about politics are forced to pay attention to a platform that doesn’t really have much else going for it. Trump Media is clearly trying to change that with new offerings, including crypto integrations and a video streaming platform called Truth+. But the ability to edit posts on Truth Social seems like it could have implications for the real world. Trump often makes typos on Truth Social, like recently when he had to delete and repost something about actress Sydney Sweeney several times . The president’s first stab at the post misspelled her name as “Sidney,” and said the American Eagle jeans in her campaign were “flying of the shelves” rather than off the shelves. Trump also spelled the beer as Bud Lite rather than Bud Light. It took Trump several attempts to get it right. Or it took one of his assistants several attempts. We don’t know for sure if Trump himself was the one who messed up or if it was a member of the White House staff like Natalie Harp, the 34-year-old who was seen writing out Trump’s tweets during the 2024 political documentary Art of the Surge . President Donald Trump is seen dictating tweets to Natalie Harp on Aug. 22, 2024, in the documentary Art of the Surge. Screenshot: X Trump explained as far back as 2016, when he was first running for president, that he gets a “young lady” to tweet for him during the day , but does it himself after 7 p.m. His arrangement has likely changed over the past decade, with many more staffers sending out content during the day now that he’s president. But there’s also a good chance that he’s still dictating posts. Normally, something like the ability to edit tweets wouldn’t be a big deal, but Trump’s posts can influence markets and literally start wars. People can edit tweets on X, and it displays a notice that shows you what the old tweet looked like. But we’re not sure yet what the functionality will look like on Truth Social. And how Trump or his team may change the wording of his posts in dramatic or subtle ways. The ability to edit posts on Truth Social will only be available to subscribers of the “Patriot Package,” the paid subscription service for Truth+. But we’re pretty sure Trump can afford it. After all, his family has made billions from crypto since he took office, according to the Wall Street Journal . Speaking of crypto, Truth Social is going to be adding new cryptocurrency-based incentives to the platform soon, according to a news release . Access for all Patriot Package subscribers to Truth gems, which are planned to comprise part of an updated rewards system that allows Truth Social and Truth+ users to use Crypto.com’s digital wallet infrastructure to convert gems, earned for participating in various activities across the platforms, into Cronos (CRO) and other benefits. What does all of that mean? Your guess is as good as ours at this point. But we’re sure it’s all above board and extremely ethical for a sitting president and his company to be engaging in.
