For any stay in France exceeding 90 days, applicants are required to apply for a long-stay visa. The duration of a long-stay visa must be between three months and one year. In order to extend your stay beyond the period of validity of your visa, you must apply for a residence permit at a prefecture. You can apply for a visa up to 180 days before your departure date. **We recommend that you apply at least 20 working days before your departure.** ## A qui s'adresser ? For those residing in Ireland, requests for visas are processed strictly by appointment only, through the consular section of the Embassy of France in Dublin. Before making an appointment, you must firstly make sure that France is the principal destination of your trip and that your file is complete. Requests for visas will only be accepted if they correspond to the principal destination criteria. You should only make an appointment when you are certain that you possess all of the documents required. Appointments can only be booked through our online platform. *** ![](https://france-visas.gouv.fr/documents/d/france-visas/money) ## What are the application fees? An application for a visa will be examined only on the reception of payment see : [application fees (pdf)](https://france-visas.gouv.fr/documents/d/france-visas/frais-de-visa-anglais). The amount due is payable in cash or by credit / debit card in euros. Payment by cheque or by phone are not accepted. This charge does not correspond to the cost of the visa, but rather for the cost of examining and processing the file. A receipt will be issued to the visa applicant. There will be no reimbursement paid, (not even partial) if a visa is refused. *** ![](https://france-visas.gouv.fr/documents/d/france-visas/calendar-1) ## Book an appointment You should only make an appointment when you are certain that you have all the documents required and that you have validated your application online.
