Submit your application at a visa centre for France, in Hong Kong and Macau
Visa applications submitted in Hong Kong and Macau are examined by the
French Consulate in Hong Kong; only the Consulate is authorised to take decisions about visas
.
It is highly recommended that you apply for your visa several weeks prior to your departure, especially during peak periods of the year (from mid-April to the end of July and in December). There is no express application process.
For short stay visas we recommend you to submit your visa application at least 15 days prior to departure.
For long stay visas, we also recommend you to submit your visa application at least 15 days prior to departure.
Applications for a work holiday visas should be submitted at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to departure.
Whom should I contact ?
Besides particular situations, visa applicants residing in Hong Kong and Macao must
make an appointment with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong through TLS Contact, a European service provider that supports visa and consular services across our diplomatic network.
When you have all the documents required for your application, you can make an appointment online :
Register on the TLScontact website here
(official service provider for the French government) to create your application.
After you register, the Shanghai office of TLScontact will call you from the official number +86 21 60168668 (also shown as 008621-60168668) within the next working day between 12:00 and 17:00, Hong Kong time. During the call, your details will be confirmed and your appointment will be scheduled. Please note that appointments cannot be booked directly online — you must wait for this call.
The time for appointment is from Monday to Friday (except public holidays), from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
No application can be made without a prior appointment.
The processing time for a visa varies according to individual circumstances. We strongly recommend that applicants do not make non-refundable travel arrangements until they receive the approval for their visa. Applicants cannot assume their application will be automatically approved.
On the day of the appointment:
1 appointment = 1 passport, only one visa application will be treated per appointment.
No sending of documents to the consulate prior to application. The visa section does not accept any document sent by mail, fax or email in support of visa applications.
The original documents should be presented by the applicant for the scheduled interview, together with one set of photocopies.
Your appointment has to be respected. If you cannot come during the booked slot, please cancel your appointment to make it available for another applicant.

Practical information on the appointment and the procedure in the Visa Centre
The personal appearance of every applicant is required. They must come in person, including children at the visa section at the time of the scheduled appointment made online only and present their passport and all original documents with a complete set of photocopies. The Consulate won’t do any photocopies and it won’t be possible to complete your application later. Only visa applicants are allowed to enter the visa section.
Third parties are not allowed to accompany visa applicants and will therefore remain outside unless it is a minor (under 18 years), who must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with a proof of identity. French citizens are not allowed to accompany visa applicants (unless it is their minor child).
All documents submitted to the visa department have to be written in French or English. If not, they have to be accompanied by a
certified translation
.
If you are asked to submit additional documents, you may do so, either in person or through somebody else acting on your behalf, by presenting the original application receipt from Monday to Friday (except public holidays), between 2:00 and 2:30 pm only.
The appointment confirmation letter (printed out);
Your passport, the passport number must be identical to the one mentioned on the appointment confirmation letter;
The file containing all the required documents presented in the same order as on the list of required documents;
Payment to cover the cost of the visa and the visa processing fees.
All visas issued by France are biometric visas.
Any visa applicant age 12 or older is required to file their first request in person. The following biometric data will be required: a photograph, scanned or taken at the time of application filing, and 10 fingerprints, taken flat and digitised.
However, it is also possible to have your previous biometric data re-used if you were issued a Schengen visa within at least the previous 59 months.
Children under 12 years of age are not required to provide the biometric data; the application must be submitted by the child’s parent/legal guardian.
The photograph in the ISO/IEC format (pdf)
of the child will be scanned.

Representation of other Schengen States
France does not represent any other Schengen states in Hong Kong and Macao.
Official passports
Visas issued to holders of official passports (i.e. related to their functions) are free of charge.
Holder of a passport of the Special Administrative Regions
If you hold a passport of the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau (SAR) or British National Overseas (BNO), you are exempt from the visa requirement to go to France and to the countries of the Schengen area for a stay of less than 90 days (short stay) over a period of 180 days. If you are going to engage in a gainful employment in France, you will need to have a proper work permit. Since January 1, 2002, SAR and BNO passport holders no longer need a visa to travel to the DOM-TOM.
Holders of the "Document of Identity" or "Travel Permit" need a visa to enter French territory.
People residing in Macao
All persons residing in Macao must visit the French Consulate in Hong Kong after making an appointment on the website of the French Consulate.

###### Holder of a passport of the Special Administrative Regions
If you hold a passport of the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau (SAR) or British National Overseas (BNO), you are exempt from the visa requirement to go to France and to the countries of the Schengen area for a stay of less than 90 days (short stay) over a period of 180 days. If you are going to engage in a gainful employment in France, you will need to have a proper work permit. Since January 1, 2002, SAR and BNO passport holders no longer need a visa to travel to the DOM-TOM.
Holders of the "Document of Identity" or "Travel Permit" need a visa to enter French territory.

## Submit your application at a visa centre for France, in Hong Kong and Macau
Visa applications submitted in Hong Kong and Macau are examined by the **French Consulate in Hong Kong; only the Consulate is authorised to take decisions about visas**.
It is highly recommended that you apply for your visa several weeks prior to your departure, especially during peak periods of the year (from mid-April to the end of July and in December). There is no express application process.
- For short stay visas we recommend you to submit your visa application at least 15 days prior to departure.
- For long stay visas, we also recommend you to submit your visa application at least 15 days prior to departure.
- Applications for a work holiday visas should be submitted at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to departure.
## Whom should I contact ?
Besides particular situations, visa applicants residing in Hong Kong and Macao must **make an appointment with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong through TLS Contact, a European service provider that supports visa and consular services across our diplomatic network.**

When you have all the documents required for your application, you can make an appointment online :
- [Register on the TLScontact website here](https://visas-fr.tlscontact.com/en-us/country/hk/vac/hkHKG2fr) (official service provider for the French government) to create your application.
- After you register, the Shanghai office of TLScontact will call you from the official number +86 21 60168668 (also shown as 008621-60168668) within the next working day between 12:00 and 17:00, Hong Kong time. During the call, your details will be confirmed and your appointment will be scheduled. Please note that appointments cannot be booked directly online — you must wait for this call.
- The time for appointment is from Monday to Friday (except public holidays), from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
- No application can be made without a prior appointment.
- The processing time for a visa varies according to individual circumstances. We strongly recommend that applicants do not make non-refundable travel arrangements until they receive the approval for their visa. Applicants cannot assume their application will be automatically approved.
- On the day of the appointment:
- 1 appointment = 1 passport, only one visa application will be treated per appointment.
- No sending of documents to the consulate prior to application. The visa section does not accept any document sent by mail, fax or email in support of visa applications.
- The original documents should be presented by the applicant for the scheduled interview, together with one set of photocopies.
- Your appointment has to be respected. If you cannot come during the booked slot, please cancel your appointment to make it available for another applicant.

**NOTE:** Appointment slots are open two weeks in advance only.
**IMPORTANT:** Because of longer waiting time to obtain an appointment at peak periods and holiday seasons, you are advised to make an appointment as soon as possible but no more than 6 months before your departure.

## What are the visa fees ?
[Fees (pdf)](https://france-visas.gouv.fr/documents/d/france-visas/frais-de-visa-anglais) are charged in **dollars of Hong Kong (HKD)** by the French administration for the processing of your application. The rates are indicated in euros (€) but the equivalent in local currency (HKD) will be given when you visit us for your interview. Alternatively, you can send us an email to get the rate in HKD : [visas.hong-kong-cslt@diplomatie.gouv.fr](mailto:visas.hong-kong-cslt@diplomatie.gouv.fr).
The amount received is kept by the administration, even in the case of refusal of Visa.

The Consulate general will be closed if a **Typhoon Signal 8** (or above) or a **Black Rainstorm warning** is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. If the Typhoon Signal is lowered to Signal 3, or if the Rainstorm Warning is lowered to a Red Signal before 12:00 p.m., services at the Consulate general will resume on the same day at 2:00 p.m.

When you visit a French Consulate, you must not bring any weapons or dangerous items with you. Security checks will be performed before you are admitted to the premises.

The personal appearance of every applicant is required. They must come in person, including children at the visa section at the time of the scheduled appointment made online only and present their passport and all original documents with a complete set of photocopies. The Consulate won’t do any photocopies and it won’t be possible to complete your application later. Only visa applicants are allowed to enter the visa section.
Third parties are not allowed to accompany visa applicants and will therefore remain outside unless it is a minor (under 18 years), who must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with a proof of identity. French citizens are not allowed to accompany visa applicants (unless it is their minor child).
All documents submitted to the visa department have to be written in French or English. If not, they have to be accompanied by a [certified translation](https://hongkong.consulfrance.org/Translators).

- Your passport, the passport number must be identical to the one mentioned on the appointment confirmation letter;
- The file containing all the required documents presented in the same order as on the list of required documents;
- Payment to cover the cost of the visa and the visa processing fees.

All visas issued by France are biometric visas.
Any visa applicant age 12 or older is required to file their first request in person. The following biometric data will be required: a photograph, scanned or taken at the time of application filing, and 10 fingerprints, taken flat and digitised.
However, it is also possible to have your previous biometric data re-used if you were issued a Schengen visa within at least the previous 59 months.
Children under 12 years of age are not required to provide the biometric data; the application must be submitted by the child’s parent/legal guardian.
