Case of nationals and residents of Northern Cyprus ("Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus")
1) Turkish passports issued by the Turkish Embassy in North Nicosia are not recognized by France. No visa can be appended. In the case of Turkish passports, we only accept those issued in Turkey or at an Embassy of Turkey in any country other than Cyprus.
2) The residents of the North who can apply at our offices are those who:
Are married to a European national (including Cypriots, having the nationality and passport of the Republic of Cyprus)
Have a European ascendant or descendant.
These requests must be accompanied by supporting documents (marriage certificate, proof of descent).
Any other case of resident in the North must be treated by our consulates in Ankara or Istanbul
.
3) If the aforementioned marriage was celebrated in the North of the island, visa applicants can submit their applications to the visa service of the French Embassy in Cyprus. However, due to the non-recognition by France of the authorities of the "TRNC", all the supporting documents are required, as well as the payment of full-rate visa fees.
Cypriot residence permit
The main types of permit issued by the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus are:
The “Yellow Slip” for EU nationals or their family members, including non-EU nationals.
The Pink Slip for non-EU nationals.
A yellow slip
does not allow
non-EU nationals to travel without a visa or travel document, even if they are accompanied by their spouse or European descendant.
As for nationals of the "TRNC", a letter from the "Moktar" of their commune is submitted instead of the residence permit.
Family members of an EU national & Free movement of persons in the EU
EXEMPTION CASE:
In application of the Directive 2004/38, the family members (spouse, children aged under 21 dependent on the EU/EEA family member, direct parent dependent on the EU family member) of a European Union citizen are exempted of short stay visa.
LEGAL OBLIGATION OF A VISA:
If you don't hold a Cypriot Residence Permit with the mention «Family Member EU ART 10 DIR 2004/38/EC» you will have to hold a visa in order to travel to the Schengen area. You will have to present the following documents along with your application:
Proof of the family link with the EU/EEA national (official document);
Proof of the nationality of the EEA/EU family member (passport, ID);
Proof of intention to travel along with the EU national.
In case of any problem related to your visa application, the consular services are at your disposal to answer your questions by email:

Visas issued to official passport holders **in the course of their duties** are free of charge.
###### Case of nationals and residents of Northern Cyprus ("Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus")
1\) Turkish passports issued by the Turkish Embassy in North Nicosia are not recognized by France. No visa can be appended. In the case of Turkish passports, we only accept those issued in Turkey or at an Embassy of Turkey in any country other than Cyprus.
2\) The residents of the North who can apply at our offices are those who:
- Are married to a European national (including Cypriots, having the nationality and passport of the Republic of Cyprus)
- Have a European ascendant or descendant.
These requests must be accompanied by supporting documents (marriage certificate, proof of descent). **Any other case of resident in the North must be treated by our consulates in Ankara or Istanbul**.
3\) If the aforementioned marriage was celebrated in the North of the island, visa applicants can submit their applications to the visa service of the French Embassy in Cyprus. Visa applicants must appear in person for the submission of their applications at the Embassy.
###### Prepare for your visit
The following documents must be gathered before your visit to the visa section:
- Your valid passport. The end of the validity date must be at least 6 months after the end of the validity of the visa requested;
- The application form, printed, dated and signed, with an ID photo less than six months, in accordance with [ISO/IEC (pdf)](https://france-visas.gouv.fr/documents/d/france-visas/iso_iec_normes_photos_fr).
- The list of supporting documents;
- The supporting documents appearing on the list, must be printed and assembled in the order of the list and checked off the list.
The above mentioned documents must be provided in duplicate: a first file consisting of the **originals**, and the second consisting of **photocopies** in A4 format.
The visa fee must be paid by credit or debit card (Visa or Mastercard).
We remind you that only visa officers are entitled to request additional supporting documents and that no external intermediary is approved for visas.
###### Collection of biometric data
All visas issued by France are biometric visas.
All visa applicants over the age of 12 are required to appear in person at the time of their first application. The following biometric identifiers are collected on this occasion: a photo, scanned or taken at the time of the application, and 10 fingerprints, taken flat and scanned.
However, it is possible to retrieve your biometric data, if a previous biometric Schengen visa was issued to you less than 59 months ago.
Children under 12 years old are exempted from biometrics, the application must be presented by one of the child's parents or by his custodian, **however the presence of the child is mandatory at the time of the submission of the application**. The photo in accordance with the ISO/IEC (pdf) of the child will be scanned.
###### Follow the progress of your application
You can follow the progress of your request from your France-Visas account, under "My applications".
###### Get your passport
The withdrawal of your passport can only be done by you or by a duly authorized third party, [by appointment only](https://consulat.gouv.fr/en/ambassade-de-france-a-nicosie/appointment?name=Visa%20collection).
#####
###### Official passports
The visa application for holders of diplomatic or service passports must be made up to **one month before** the desired departure date.
The withdrawal of the visa is made, depending on the case, at least 24 hours after the submission of the visa application.
However, due to the non-recognition by France of the authorities of the "TRNC", all the supporting documents are required, as well as the payment of full-rate visa fees.
###### Cypriot residence permit
The main types of permit issued by the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus are:
- The “Yellow Slip” for EU nationals or their family members, including non-EU nationals.
- The Pink Slip for non-EU nationals.
A yellow slip **does not allow** non-EU nationals to travel without a visa or travel document, even if they are accompanied by their spouse or European descendant.
As for nationals of the "TRNC", a letter from the "Moktar" of their commune is submitted instead of the residence permit.
###### Family members of an EU national & Free movement of persons in the EU
**EXEMPTION CASE:** In application of the Directive 2004/38, the family members (spouse, children aged under 21 dependent on the EU/EEA family member, direct parent dependent on the EU family member) of a European Union citizen are exempted of short stay visa.
**LEGAL OBLIGATION OF A VISA:** If you don't hold a Cypriot Residence Permit with the mention «Family Member EU ART 10 DIR 2004/38/EC» you will have to hold a visa in order to travel to the Schengen area. You will have to present the following documents along with your application:
- Proof of the family link with the EU/EEA national (official document);
- Proof of the nationality of the EEA/EU family member (passport, ID);
- Proof of intention to travel along with the EU national.
