So the US economy lost 92,000 non-farm payroll jobs in the month of February. That is a massive surprise compared to the 55,000 jobs that were expected to be added to the economy last month.\n00:13\nSpeaker A\nUh the unemployment rate goes up by 1\/10th of 1% to 4.4%. That's up from 4.3% the prior month.\n00:23\nSpeaker A\nUh average hourly earnings up 4\/10th of 1% month on month, 3.8% over last year. Both of those beat forecast by 1\/10th of 1%.\n00:32\nSpeaker A\nBut the headline here is the headline. 92,000 non-farm payroll jobs taken out of the economy in February, a massive surprise relative to the 55,000 that we were expecting to add.\n00:46\nSpeaker A\nLast month's job gains revised to 126,000. So, uh basically unchanged there. So we're now, what's my math here, Julie?\n00:57\nSpeaker A\nWe're up 30,000 jobs roughly for the year, which is right on pace with the uh number of jobs we added on average in 2025.\n01:07\nJulie\nYeah, I mean, although that not that headline number is a pretty\n01:10\nSpeaker A\nIt's a shocker.\n01:11\nJulie\nIt's a shocker. That's a pretty\n01:12\nSpeaker A\nIt's a shocker. It's the biggest negative number I can remember, I think since the pandemic.\n01:15\nJulie\nYeah, it is interesting that you have that average hourly earnings number ticking up a little bit. 0.4% was the gain there. Um, I mean if all you're watching is that unemployment rate, it going up a 10th of a percent to 4.4% is not necessarily a good news. So the US economy lost 92,000 non-farm payroll jobs in the month of February. That is a massive surprise compared to the 55,000 jobs that were expected to be added to the economy last month.\n\n00:13  Speaker A\n\nUh the unemployment rate goes up by 1\/10th of 1% to 4.4%. That's up from 4.3% the prior month.\n\n00:23  Speaker A\n\nUh average hourly earnings up 4\/10th of 1% month on month, 3.8% over last year. Both of those beat forecast by 1\/10th of 1%.\n\n00:32  Speaker A\n\nBut the headline here is the headline. 92,000 non-farm payroll jobs taken out of the economy in February, a massive surprise relative to the 55,000 that we were expecting to add.\n\n00:46  Speaker A\n\nLast month's job gains revised to 126,000. So, uh basically unchanged there. So we're now, what's my math here, Julie?\n\n00:57  Speaker A\n\nWe're up 30,000 jobs roughly for the year, which is right on pace with the uh number of jobs we added on average in 2025.\n\n01:07  Julie\n\nYeah, I mean, although that not that headline number is a pretty\n\n01:10  Speaker A\n\nIt's a shocker.\n\n01:11  Julie\n\nIt's a shocker. That's a pretty\n\n01:12  Speaker A\n\nIt's a shocker. It's the biggest negative number I can remember, I think since the pandemic.\n\n01:15  Julie\n\nYeah, it is interesting that you have that average hourly earnings number ticking up a little bit. 0.4% was the gain there. Um, I mean if all you're watching is that unemployment rate, it going up a 10th of a percent to 4.4% is not necessarily a good news. By the way, we also just got retail sales and they fell a little bit less than estimated.\n\n01:33  Speaker A\n\nI got it. That is a massive surprise compared to the 55,000 jobs that were expected to be added to the economy last month.\n\n00:13  Speaker A\n\nUh the unemployment rate goes up by 1\/10th of 1% to 4.4%. That's up from 4.3% the prior month.\n\n00:23  Speaker A\n\nUh average hourly earnings up 4\/10th of 1% month on month, 3.8% over last year. Both of those beat forecast by 1\/10th of 1%.\n\n00:32  Speaker A\n\nBut the headline here is the headline. 92,000 non-farm payroll jobs taken out of the economy in February, a massive surprise relative to the 55,000 that we were expecting to add.\n\n00:46  Speaker A\n\nLast month's job gains revised to 126,000. So, uh basically unchanged there. Additionally, the unemployment rate rose to 4.4% while average hourly wages grew by 0.4% month-over-month and 3.8% year-over-year. Video Transcript 00:00 Speaker A negative 92,000. So the US economy lost 92,000 non-farm payroll jobs in the month of February. That is a massive surprise compared to the 55,000 jobs that were expected to be added to the economy last month. 00:13 Speaker A Uh the unemployment rate goes up by 1/10th of 1% to 4.4%. That's up from 4.3% the prior month. 00:23 Speaker A Uh average hourly earnings up 4/10th of 1% month on month, 3.8% over last year. Both of those beat forecast by 1/10th of 1%. 00:32 Speaker A But the headline here is the headline. 92,000 non-farm payroll jobs taken out of the economy in February, a massive surprise relative to the 55,000 that we were expecting to add. 00:46 Speaker A Last month's job gains revised to 126,000. So, uh basically unchanged there. So we're now, what's my math here, Julie? 00:57 Speaker A We're up 30,000 jobs roughly for the year, which is right on pace with the uh number of jobs we added on average in 2025. 01:07 Julie Yeah, I mean, although that not that headline number is a pretty 01:10 Speaker A It's a shocker. 01:11 Julie It's a shocker.
