So the stacks just hit its highest level, Joe, you say here, since February of last year.\n00:09\nJosh\nWhat does that suggest to us, Joe, about how retail investors are feeling right now?\n00:15\nJoe\nSo I think you need to kind of break the retail investor in a couple different cohorts here. So,\n00:22\nJoe\nyou know, what it what it says to me is that they're continuing to buy the dip. Uh it tends to be more on the active side though. So the traders over investors are feeling a little bit more bullish. Uh they're more more active in in looking for opportunities. The a perfect example would be the number one stock on the list, Josh, and that was Microsoft. So\n00:41\nJoe\nday after earnings coming come out, stock pulls back 9%. We see about a $1.7 billion kind of net inflow into the stock from clients uh that are looking for those opportunities. Now,\n00:55\nJoe\nwhat's interesting uh in in in addition to that is it's it it's been through some different sectors. So IT is has been the the the biggest uh lift that we've seen in terms of the stacks, but that hasn't always been the case, right? So\n01:10\nJoe\nOctober really through November, I I you saw some heavy selling in IT and then moving a little bit more towards that rotation trade that you've seen in the market over the last couple months.\n01:21\nJoe\nBut in in January, that's when we saw kind of our more active investors come back in, look for some opportunities and maybe some of those beaten up tech names.\n01:31\nJoe\nAnd I and I and I think that that is what you're going to see kind of going forward and it's and it's been a a little bit of the history of the stacks as they look to buy the dips and kind of sell the rips.\n01:41\nJosh\nAnd these popular names, I mean you mentioned Microsoft. The most popular ones though, Joe, to to your point there, I see Microsoft there, I see Netflix, Tesla, Amazon, Nvidia makes the cut. Um What how would you break down the common theme or maybe themes joining those?\n01:54\nJoe\nSure. Uh I mean, let's let's go back to it with Microsoft with 9% pullback off earnings. Amazon, pulled back off of its earnings. I you know, these were names that, you know, have been kind of heavily bought and sold. Uh Tesla's I think the perfect example. It it that really is something that our clients love to trade.\n02:11\nJoe\nWhen it gets to the top of the range, you know, it gets closer to the 52 week highs, it's it's usually number one or number two on on the sell list, right? But then once it starts to kind of pull back a little bit and and uh they recognize an opportunity to to to to buy in shares 10, 15% lower than where where they were trading the previous month, they're they're they're buying those in. So there's a lot more activity that's going on uh than maybe what we've seen in the last couple years at least in these in the last few months on the sell list.\n02:41\nJoe\nAMD, here's what was interesting about that. So AMD came out with earnings post stacks, right? So stacks uh for January ended on the 30th. At that time, you know, AMD was really close to a 52 week high. So that was right before earnings came out. They sold it, they sold it into strength. I would not be surprised is if uh as we start to look over the weekly stacks, uh if that starts showing up on the buy list once that stock pulled back a bit. So,\n03:07\nJoe\nthat's kind of a common theme, right? Let's let's dig into this. So the stacks just hit its highest level, Joe, you say here, since February of last year.\n\n00:09  Josh\n\nWhat does that suggest to us, Joe, about how retail investors are feeling right now?\n\n00:15  Joe\n\nSo I think you need to kind of break the retail investor in a couple different cohorts here. So,\n\n00:22  Joe\n\nyou know, what it what it says to me is that they're continuing to buy the dip. Uh it tends to be more on the active side though. So the traders over investors are feeling a little bit more bullish. Uh they're more more active in in looking for opportunities. The a perfect example would be the number one stock on the list, Josh, and that was Microsoft. So\n\n00:41  Joe\n\nday after earnings coming come out, stock pulls back 9%. We see about a \\$1.7 billion kind of net inflow into the stock from clients uh that are looking for those opportunities. Now,\n\n00:55  Joe\n\nwhat's interesting uh in in in addition to that is it's it it's been through some different sectors. So IT is has been the the the biggest uh lift that we've seen in terms of the stacks, but that hasn't always been the case, right? So\n\n01:10  Joe\n\nOctober really through November, I I you saw some heavy selling in IT and then moving a little bit more towards that rotation trade that you've seen in the market over the last couple months.\n\n01:21  Joe\n\nBut in in January, that's when we saw kind of our more active investors come back in, look for some opportunities and maybe some of those beaten up tech names.\n\n01:31  Joe\n\nAnd I and I and I think that that is what you're going to see kind of going forward and it's and it's been a a little bit of the history of the stacks as they look to buy the dips and kind of sell the rips.\n\n01:41  Josh\n\nAnd these popular names, I mean you mentioned Microsoft. The most popular ones though, Joe, to to your point there, I see Microsoft there, I see Netflix, Tesla, Amazon, Nvidia makes the cut. Um What how would you break down the common theme or maybe themes joining those?\n\n01:54  Joe\n\nSure. Uh I mean, let's let's go back to it with Microsoft with 9% pullback off earnings. Amazon, pulled back off of its earnings. I you know, these were names that, you know, have been kind of heavily bought and sold. Uh Tesla's I think the perfect example. It it that really is something that our clients love to trade.\n\n02:11  Joe\n\nWhen it gets to the top of the range, you know, it gets closer to the 52 week highs, it's it's usually number one or number two on on the sell list, right? But then once it starts to kind of pull back a little bit and and uh they recognize an opportunity to to to to buy in shares 10, 15% lower than where where they were trading the previous month, they're they're they're buying those in. So there's a lot more activity that's going on uh than maybe what we've seen in the last couple years at least in these in the last few months on the sell list.\n\n02:41  Joe\n\nAMD, here's what was interesting about that. So AMD came out with earnings post stacks, right? So stacks uh for January ended on the 30th. At that time, you know, AMD was really close to a 52 week high. So that was right before earnings came out. They sold it, they sold it into strength. I would not be surprised is if uh as we start to look over the weekly stacks, uh if that starts showing up on the buy list once that stock pulled back a bit. So,\n\n03:07  Joe\n\nthat's kind of a common theme, right? So the stacks just hit its highest level, Joe, you say here, since February of last year.\n\n00:09  Josh\n\nWhat does that suggest to us, Joe, about how retail investors are feeling right now?\n\n00:15  Joe\n\nSo I think you need to kind of break the retail investor in a couple different cohorts here. So,\n\n00:22  Joe\n\nyou know, what it what it says to me is that they're continuing to buy the dip. Uh it tends to be more on the active side though. So the traders over investors are feeling a little bit more bullish. Uh they're more more active in in looking for opportunities. The a perfect example would be the number one stock on the list, Josh, and that was Microsoft. So\n\n00:41  Joe\n\nday after earnings coming come out, stock pulls back 9%. We see about a \\$1.7 billion kind of net inflow into the stock from clients uh that are looking for those opportunities. Now,\n\n00:55  Joe\n\nwhat's interesting uh in in in addition to that is it's it it's been through some different sectors. So IT is has been the the the biggest uh lift that we've seen in terms of the stacks, but that hasn't always been the case, right? So\n\n01:10  Joe\n\nOctober really through November, I I you saw some heavy selling in IT and then moving a little bit more towards that rotation trade that you've seen in the market over the last couple months.\n\n01:21  Joe\n\nBut in in January, that's when we saw kind of our more active investors come back in, look for some opportunities and maybe some of those beaten up tech names.\n\n01:31  Joe\n\nAnd I and I and I think that that is what you're going to see kind of going forward and it's and it's been a a little bit of the history of the stacks as they look to buy the dips and kind of sell the rips.\n\n01:41  Josh\n\nAnd these popular names, I mean you mentioned Microsoft. The most popular ones though, Joe, to to your point there, I see Microsoft there, I see Netflix, Tesla, Amazon, Nvidia makes the cut. Um What how would you break down the common theme or maybe themes joining those?\n\n01:54  Joe\n\nSure. Uh I mean, let's let's go back to it with Microsoft with 9% pullback off earnings. Amazon, pulled back off of its earnings. I you know, these were names that, you know, have been kind of heavily bought and sold. Uh Tesla's I think the perfect example. It it that really is something that our clients love to trade.\n\n02:11  Joe\n\nWhen it gets to the top of the range, you know, it gets closer to the 52 week highs, it's it's usually number one or number two on on the sell list, right? But then once it starts to kind of pull back a little bit and and uh they recognize an opportunity to to to to buy in shares 10, 15% lower than where where they were trading the previous month, they're they're they're buying those in. So there's a lot more activity that's going on uh than maybe what we've seen in the last couple years at least in these in the last few months on the sell list.\n\n02:41  Joe\n\nAMD, here's what was interesting about that. So AMD came out with earnings post stacks, right? So stacks uh for January ended on the 30th. At that time, you know, AMD was really close to a 52 week high. So that was right before earnings came out. They sold it, they sold it into strength. I would not be surprised is if uh as we start to look over the weekly stacks, uh if that starts showing up on the buy list once that stock pulled back a bit. Charles Schwab head trading & derivatives strategist Joe Mazzola shares the details. Video Transcript 00:00 Josh Always great to see you. Let's let's dig into this. So the stacks just hit its highest level, Joe, you say here, since February of last year. 00:09 Josh What does that suggest to us, Joe, about how retail investors are feeling right now? 00:15 Joe So I think you need to kind of break the retail investor in a couple different cohorts here. So, 00:22 Joe you know, what it what it says to me is that they're continuing to buy the dip. Uh it tends to be more on the active side though. So the traders over investors are feeling a little bit more bullish. Uh they're more more active in in looking for opportunities. The a perfect example would be the number one stock on the list, Josh, and that was Microsoft. So 00:41 Joe day after earnings coming come out, stock pulls back 9%. We see about a \$1.7 billion kind of net inflow into the stock from clients uh that are looking for those opportunities. Now, 00:55 Joe what's interesting uh in in in addition to that is it's it it's been through some different sectors. So IT is has been the the the biggest uh lift that we've seen in terms of the stacks, but that hasn't always been the case, right? So 01:10 Joe October really through November, I I you saw some heavy selling in IT and then moving a little bit more towards that rotation trade that you've seen in the market over the last couple months. 01:21 Joe But in in January, that's when we saw kind of our more active investors come back in, look for some opportunities and maybe some of those beaten up tech names. 01:31 Joe And I and I and I think that that is what you're going to see kind of going forward and it's and it's been a a little bit of the history of the stacks as they look to buy the dips and kind of sell the rips. 01:41 Josh And these popular names, I mean you mentioned Microsoft. The most popular ones though, Joe, to to your point there, I see Microsoft there, I see Netflix, Tesla, Amazon, Nvidia makes the cut. Um What how would you break down the common theme or maybe themes joining those? 01:54 Joe Sure. Uh I mean, let's let's go back to it with Microsoft with 9% pullback off earnings. Amazon, pulled back off of its earnings. I you know, these were names that, you know, have been kind of heavily bought and sold. Uh Tesla's I think the perfect example. It it that really is something that our clients love to trade. 02:11 Joe When it gets to the top of the range, you know, it gets closer to the 52 week highs, it's it's usually number one or number two on on the sell list, right? But then once it starts to kind of pull back a little bit and and uh they recognize an opportunity to to to to buy in shares 10, 15% lower than where where they were trading the previous month, they're they're they're buying those in. So there's a lot more activity that's going on uh than maybe what we've seen in the last couple years at least in these in the last few months on the sell list. 02:41 Joe AMD, here's what was interesting about that. So AMD came out with earnings post stacks, right? So stacks uh for January ended on the 30th. At that time, you know, AMD was really close to a 52 week high. So that was right before earnings came out. They sold it, they sold it into strength. I would not be surprised is if uh as we start to look over the weekly stacks, uh if that starts showing up on the buy list once that stock pulled back a bit.
