You know, we showed a chart at the top of the show, investors have rotated back into Nvidia, back into a Microsoft. So that's been interesting to see too at the same time where we're not that far away from $100 a barrel oil. And we're definitely not out of the woods as it pertains to Iran.\n00:30\nSpeaker B\nNo, we're not, but if you take a look at a four-day chart really of the Mag 7, as you mentioned, you've got Nvidia that's higher, you've got Microsoft that's higher, Amazon and Meta are all higher. So investors have been buying. And then you also look at the defense stocks and those have been near all-time highs. Fundstrat had a piece on how defense, which makes part of the industrial complex, industrial sector, defense stocks uh typically are being bought uh before or leading up to a conflict, and then they flatten out. But now with this persistent sort of geopolitical risk, you are seeing these defense stocks that are been taking more of a bid.\n01:21\nSpeaker A\nAll right, let me uh give the last word to you here. Uh we've seen a little bit of a stability come back to the markets here. Is the message to investors to not get complacent?\n01:36\nArt Hogan\nWell, I think that there's always a concern about being complacent. I think where things get um a bit dodgy if you will, um really sits with a place of, I think yesterday is a perfect example of this. Yesterday in markets, SP 500 had a good day, 11 sectors were up. The ones that were up the most were year-to-date laggards. So you're actually seeing investors saying, okay, maybe this is overdone. And I think I get very concerned if you start seeing investors piling into things like staples, which have trading at multiples we haven't seen in 20 years. or you know, just over buying the aerospace and defense, thinking this is going to be something that lasts for years instead of months or weeks. And and and so I think investors need to be more less complacent but more careful about some of the automatic moves in the handbook for when a war starts. And also remember that going back to World War II, every time we've had uh the start of a war, we have seen markets in general higher six months later, about 70% of the time. So, changing your long-term investment plan is not the thing to do when you start to see the missiles flying. It's it's likely resetting where your allocations are, but certainly not breaking with your long-term investment strategy.\n02:49\nSpeaker A\nUh for your uh for the young folks watching this, follow Art Hogan. Riley Wealth chief market strategist Art Hogan join Opening Bid host [Brian Sozzi](https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/author\/brian-sozzi\/) to discuss recent retail investing trends.\n\nTo watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more [Opening Bid](https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/videos\/series\/opening-bid\/).\n\nVideo Transcript\n\n00:00  Speaker A\n\nat the top of the show that investors, they've used this moment, this heightened uh geopolitical volatility backdrop, whatever jargon you want to drop here right now, to go out and go back to some of their tried and true AI names. You know, we showed a chart at the top of the show, investors have rotated back into Nvidia, back into a Microsoft. So that's been interesting to see too at the same time where we're not that far away from \\$100 a barrel oil. And we're definitely not out of the woods as it pertains to Iran.\n\n00:30  Speaker B\n\nNo, we're not, but if you take a look at a four-day chart really of the Mag 7, as you mentioned, you've got Nvidia that's higher, you've got Microsoft that's higher, Amazon and Meta are all higher. So investors have been buying. And then you also look at the defense stocks and those have been near all-time highs. Fundstrat had a piece on how defense, which makes part of the industrial complex, industrial sector, defense stocks uh typically are being bought uh before or leading up to a conflict, and then they flatten out. But now with this persistent sort of geopolitical risk, you are seeing these defense stocks that are been taking more of a bid.\n\n01:21  Speaker A\n\nAll right, let me uh give the last word to you here. Uh we've seen a little bit of a stability come back to the markets here. Is the message to investors to not get complacent?\n\n01:36  Art Hogan\n\nWell, I think that there's always a concern about being complacent. I think where things get um a bit dodgy if you will, um really sits with a place of, I think yesterday is a perfect example of this. Yesterday in markets, SP 500 had a good day, 11 sectors were up. The ones that were up the most were year-to-date laggards. So you're actually seeing investors saying, okay, maybe this is overdone. And I think I get very concerned if you start seeing investors piling into things like staples, which have trading at multiples we haven't seen in 20 years. or you know, just over buying the aerospace and defense, thinking this is going to be something that lasts for years instead of months or weeks. And and and so I think investors need to be more less complacent but more careful about some of the automatic moves in the handbook for when a war starts. And also remember that going back to World War II, every time we've had uh the start of a war, we have seen markets in general higher six months later, about 70% of the time. So, changing your long-term investment plan is not the thing to do when you start to see the missiles flying. It's it's likely resetting where your allocations are, but certainly not breaking with your long-term investment strategy.\n\n02:49  Speaker A\n\nUh for your uh for the young folks watching this, follow Art Hogan. You know, we showed a chart at the top of the show, investors have rotated back into Nvidia, back into a Microsoft. So that's been interesting to see too at the same time where we're not that far away from \\$100 a barrel oil. And we're definitely not out of the woods as it pertains to Iran.\n\n00:30  Speaker B\n\nNo, we're not, but if you take a look at a four-day chart really of the Mag 7, as you mentioned, you've got Nvidia that's higher, you've got Microsoft that's higher, Amazon and Meta are all higher. So investors have been buying. And then you also look at the defense stocks and those have been near all-time highs. Fundstrat had a piece on how defense, which makes part of the industrial complex, industrial sector, defense stocks uh typically are being bought uh before or leading up to a conflict, and then they flatten out. But now with this persistent sort of geopolitical risk, you are seeing these defense stocks that are been taking more of a bid.\n\n01:21  Speaker A\n\nAll right, let me uh give the last word to you here. Uh we've seen a little bit of a stability come back to the markets here. Is the message to investors to not get complacent?\n\n01:36  Art Hogan\n\nWell, I think that there's always a concern about being complacent. I think where things get um a bit dodgy if you will, um really sits with a place of, I think yesterday is a perfect example of this. Yesterday in markets, SP 500 had a good day, 11 sectors were up. The ones that were up the most were year-to-date laggards. So you're actually seeing investors saying, okay, maybe this is overdone. And I think I get very concerned if you start seeing investors piling into things like staples, which have trading at multiples we haven't seen in 20 years. or you know, just over buying the aerospace and defense, thinking this is going to be something that lasts for years instead of months or weeks. And and and so I think investors need to be more less complacent but more careful about some of the automatic moves in the handbook for when a war starts. And also remember that going back to World War II, every time we've had uh the start of a war, we have seen markets in general higher six months later, about 70% of the time. So, changing your long-term investment plan is not the thing to do when you start to see the missiles flying. It's it's likely resetting where your allocations are, but certainly not breaking with your long-term investment strategy.\n\n02:49  Speaker A\n\nUh for your uh for the young folks watching this, follow Art Hogan. Video Transcript 00:00 Speaker A at the top of the show that investors, they've used this moment, this heightened uh geopolitical volatility backdrop, whatever jargon you want to drop here right now, to go out and go back to some of their tried and true AI names. You know, we showed a chart at the top of the show, investors have rotated back into Nvidia, back into a Microsoft. So that's been interesting to see too at the same time where we're not that far away from \$100 a barrel oil. And we're definitely not out of the woods as it pertains to Iran. 00:30 Speaker B No, we're not, but if you take a look at a four-day chart really of the Mag 7, as you mentioned, you've got Nvidia that's higher, you've got Microsoft that's higher, Amazon and Meta are all higher. So investors have been buying. And then you also look at the defense stocks and those have been near all-time highs. Fundstrat had a piece on how defense, which makes part of the industrial complex, industrial sector, defense stocks uh typically are being bought uh before or leading up to a conflict, and then they flatten out. But now with this persistent sort of geopolitical risk, you are seeing these defense stocks that are been taking more of a bid. 01:21 Speaker A All right, let me uh give the last word to you here. Uh we've seen a little bit of a stability come back to the markets here. Is the message to investors to not get complacent? 01:36 Art Hogan Well, I think that there's always a concern about being complacent. I think where things get um a bit dodgy if you will, um really sits with a place of, I think yesterday is a perfect example of this. Yesterday in markets, SP 500 had a good day, 11 sectors were up. The ones that were up the most were year-to-date laggards. So you're actually seeing investors saying, okay, maybe this is overdone. And I think I get very concerned if you start seeing investors piling into things like staples, which have trading at multiples we haven't seen in 20 years. or you know, just over buying the aerospace and defense, thinking this is going to be something that lasts for years instead of months or weeks. And and and so I think investors need to be more less complacent but more careful about some of the automatic moves in the handbook for when a war starts. And also remember that going back to World War II, every time we've had uh the start of a war, we have seen markets in general higher six months later, about 70% of the time. So, changing your long-term investment plan is not the thing to do when you start to see the missiles flying. It's it's likely resetting where your allocations are, but certainly not breaking with your long-term investment strategy. 02:49 Speaker A Uh for your uh for the young folks watching this, follow Art Hogan.
