May 24, 2021 10:01 a.m. ET REACT Marvel's family of immortal beings has arrived, and they have some thoughts as to who should lead the Avengers now that Steve Rogers and Tony Stark are gone. The first teaser trailer for Eternals dropped on Monday, weeks after fans got a look at the highly anticipated film from Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao in a sizzle reel of Marvel's upcoming slate . In true Marvel style, the footage is a combination of thrilling, goosebump-inducing moments mixed with a few laughs. The Eternals are a race of immortals who protect earth against entities known as the Deviants, mankind's oldest enemies. There's Angelina Jolie as warrior Thena, Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as the humanity-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as the cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as speedster Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as inventor Phastos, Salma Hayek as the Eternals' spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as eternally young Sprite, Don Lee as strongman Gilgamesh, and Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig. The first teaser trailer for Eternals dropped on Monday, weeks after fans got a look at the highly anticipated film from Oscar-winning director [Chloe Zhao](https://ew.com/tag/chloe-zhao/) in [a sizzle reel of Marvel's upcoming slate](https://ew.com/movies/eternals-first-footage-black-panther-2-captain-marvel-2-titles-video/). In true Marvel style, the footage is a combination of thrilling, goosebump-inducing moments mixed with a few laughs. The Eternals are a race of immortals who protect earth against entities known as the Deviants, mankind's oldest enemies. There's [Angelina Jolie](https://ew.com/tag/angelina-jolie/) as warrior Thena, [Richard Madden](https://ew.com/tag/richard-madden/) as the all-powerful Ikaris, [Gemma Chan](https://ew.com/tag/kumail-nanjiani/https://ew.com/tag/gemma-chan/) as the humanity-loving Sersi, [Kumail Nanjiani](https://ew.com/tag/kumail-nanjiani/) as the cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as speedster Makkari, [Brian Tyree Henry](https://ew.com/tag/brian-tyree-henry/) as inventor Phastos, [Salma Hayek](https://ew.com/tag/salma-hayek/) as the Eternals' spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as eternally young Sprite, Don Lee as strongman Gilgamesh, and Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig. "Throughout the years we have never interfered — until now," Ajak says. In a scene that's a more lighthearted moment than the famous shawarma sequence at the end of The Avengers, the Eternals gather around to eat a meal and debate who should lead Earth's Mightiest Heroes now that Steve ([Chris Evans](https://ew.com/tag/chris-evans/)) is an old man and Tony ([Robert Downey, Jr.](https://ew.com/tag/robert-downey-jr/)) died during the events of Avengers: Endgame.
