However, it's only been 13 years since she married Prince William and this weekend is sure to be special as the royal couple is marking 14 years since they announced their engagement to the world. In their first interview after announcing the engagement, William explained he'd planned the engagement for a while. In fact, he had carried his mother's sapphire and diamond engagement ring in his rucksack for three weeks before proposing and was terrified of losing it. He said: 'I had been carrying it around with me in my rucksack for about three weeks before that, and I literally would not let it go. Everywhere I went I was keeping hold of it, because I knew this thing, if it disappeared, I would be in a lot of trouble. 'And because I'd planned it, it went fine. It's believed that William popped the question at Rutundu Cabin at the foot of Mount Kenya, where they signed the guestbook. According to [The Sun](https://www.thesun.ie/fabulous/4696417/inside-the-remote-log-cabin-where-prince-william-proposed-to-kate-middleton/), the notes left on the guestbook from Kate reads: 'Thank you for such a wonderful 24 hours! Sadly no fish to be found but we had fun trying. I love the warm fires and candlelights - so romantic.
