Below Iâll introduce you to Paris and walk through every recommended area to stay in Paris so you can learn a bit about the different parts of town before your trip to the French capital.
Paris is one of the worldâs most beautiful cities, but also one of the most visited cities. From impressive architecture to world-renowned artists, Paris has it all.
Paris offers plenty of cultural things to do, and it is not without reason that the city itself has inspired music, literature, film and art.
Paris is divided into 20 different ones. These districts are called
arrondissements
.
When choosing an area to stay in Paris, you must therefore look for which arrondissement you are looking into.
What are
the best places to stay in Paris
, you might be thinking?
Below I share the five best areas in Paris to stay in as a tourist.
1. Marais â best area to stay the first time âïž
You can sense the past in
Le Marais
, where narrow streets and buildings from the Middle Ages still stand.
The Marais is located in the
4th arrondissement
in central Paris and is the favourite area of many tourists in Paris. So if youâre looking for the best place to stay in Paris on your first visit to France, then Marais is a safe bet.
See the best hotels in Marais here
.
Learn more about Le Marais in this little video guide.
In the Marais, you can discover many different museums, and it is also where
Notre Dame de Paris
is located. Among other attractions, you can experience
Hotel de Ville
and
Place de Bastille
.
The gardens by the
Place des Vosges
fountain are also the perfect place to relax.
In the Marais, you will also live close to the river
Seine
, so you can easily cross over to the southern bank and experience
the Latin Quarter
, which is full of life â an area I mention later in this guide to where to stay in Paris as itâs also one of the best areas in the city.
Places to stay in Marais
The Marais is central, easy to get to by public transport and a fantastic area with lots of small shops, cafes and restaurants.
So, of course, there are also some excellent hotels in Marais. Let me share three great places:

:

12 of the best hotels in Le Marais
and have a look at my massive Paris Travel Guide on Youtube:
2. Montmartre â best area to stay for a local vibe
Where to stay in Paris
if not the Marais?
Montmartre
, in the 18th arrondissement, is a highly charming district and I must admit that Montmartre is my favourite area in Paris.
It may well be that there are also many tourists, but that is so everywhere in Paris â I think Montmartre has a unique, really cosy atmosphere.
And then I imagine a more local vibe here than in the absolute centre of Paris.
See the best hotels in Montmartre here
.
Le Consulat in Montmartre.
The area was once a village for artists, and it is also where both DalĂ and Picasso himself once lived.
Montmartre is known for its hill, where you can take a ride on the cable car or venture into a slightly more challenging activity with the stairs.
At the top of the hill is the white basilica
Sacre Coeur
, which can be seen from most of the city and is worth a visit â even if you donât stay in Montmartre.
In the artistsâ square (Place de Tertre), you can admire the many artists who design creative masterpieces. This is also a good option for you if you want to have a self-portrait painted.
Montmartre is worth considering in terms of accommodation if you are artistically inclined or want to stay in an area of Paris with a bit of an edge.
And I mean that in the best possible way â I love Montmartre!
Places to stay in Montmartre
Montmartre is a relatively small area, and you donât have to live right at the foot of the Sacre-Coeur to feel the good atmosphere in the 18th arrondissement â you can even choose a hotel in the Pigalle area of the 9th arrondissement.
Here are three good hotels in Montmartre in different price ranges.

3. Latin Quarter â best area to stay for a lively area
If you would like to experience one of the best areas in Paris and stay in a district with lots of soul and colour, then the
Latin Quarter
in Paris is an obvious choice.
Here you are in the 5th arrondissement just south of the Seine.
The district is known, among other things, for its cosy streets, beautiful cafes and restaurants.
See the best hotels in Latin Quarter here
.
As you know, France is world-renowned for its beautiful and traditional cuisine, so if you want to taste some delicious food, the Latin Quarter also offers Michelin restaurants.
If you have a sweet tooth, it is recommended to stop by Ladurée, which makes the most beautiful macaroons.
The Latin Quarter is also home to Sorbonne University, which
dates back to the Middle Ages
. Great world-renowned philosophers once studied at this university, so itâs not just
any
university.
In the Latin Quarter in Paris, you can experience, among other things, the Panthéon, Mouffetard Market and much more.

4. OpĂ©ra â best place to stay in Paris with kids
The 9th arrondissement of the French capital is known, among other things, for its shops, department stores and hotels. But one of the most important sights is the Paris Opera.
The area is excellent for those who travel to Paris with children and want to live close to all the best things to do in Paris.
See the best hotels in Opéra here
.
As previously mentioned, it is difficult to put your finger on the best area in Paris and thus also for families with children, but if you book a hotel in
Opéra
, you will not go wrong in the city.
An advantage of staying here is that the area is central and well connected, so whether you land at
Charles de Gaulle
or Orly airport, you can quickly get to your hotel â and back to the airport.
The area is also within walking distance of the Louvre, the Champs ĂlysĂ©es and much more.
This area of Paris is (not surprisingly) named after the opera.
Whether youâre into going to the opera or not, it is a memorable experience to make your way past the Opera, located in the Palais Garnier building, which was built in the 1800s.
The beautiful opera house is worth a visit to admire the interior and the building itself, and if you want to experience a concert.
In addition to opera, it is also possible to see a ballet performance. The operaâs library and museum offer plenty of opportunities to explore the operaâs history.
Places to stay in Opéra
The area around the OpĂ©ra is relatively small, so itâs okay if your hotel is not right next to the opera building or the metro station. Here are three good hotels in OpĂ©ra.
Best luxury hotel
:
Chouchou HĂŽtel
Chouchou HĂŽtel is a top-tier hotel in Parisâs desirable OpĂ©ra area.
This hotel is more than just a place to rest your head â itâs a true tribute to the Parisian lifestyle, combining luxury, elegance, and cultural flair.

Thereâs a romantic vibe at this hotel in Paris, the city of love.

5. Champs ĂlysĂ©es â best area to stay for shopping
Although many associate Paris with cosy cafes, historical monuments, buildings and art, the metropolis is also known for its excellent shops with chic clothing.
Paris is not just any city when it comes to shopping opportunities.
And here we canât bypass the
Champs ĂlysĂ©es
, which is famous worldwide and perhaps also one of the most beautiful streets in the world.
See the best hotels in the Champs ĂlysĂ©es area here
.
Around here, we are in the
8th arrondissement
and still very central in Paris, but in the western part of the city and quite close to
the Eiffel Tower
.
The city also goes under the title of âWorldâs fashion capitalâ with
London
,
New York
and
Milan
.
If you love the big fashion houses and brands such as Dior, Chanel, YSL and Louis Vuitton, then the Champs ĂlysĂ©es is a good choice for where to stay in Paris. On the famous street, you can buy
haute couture
in style.
The Arc de Triomphe at the end of the Champs ĂlysĂ©es.
However, the Champs ĂlysĂ©es is not only filled with big fashion houses; you can also find lots of other shops with well-known brands and in many price ranges.
The avenue itself, which stretches for almost two kilometres, is an experience in itself, and so are the areas around it. If shopping is your thing, staying in this area might make sense when you go to Paris.
Also, remember to visit the Arc de Triomphe near the Champs ĂlysĂ©es.
Places to stay near Champs ĂlysĂ©es

just
a street, but below I am sharing a few of the best hotels near the famous avenue.

Unsafe areas to avoid in Paris (where NOT to stay)
A good video about where not to stay in Paris
There
are
some areas you should generally stay away from in Paris.
In Paris, staying away from certain areas in the evening and at night is a good idea. It would be best to avoid places such as the
Gare du Nord
and
Gare de lâEst
area, located in the 10th arrondissement.
At least in the evening and at night.
In the 1st arrondissement is
Chalet Les Halles
, which
could
also be avoided in the evening, and the same goes for the northern part of the 19th arrondissement.
In the evening and at night, it is also not a good idea to stay around
Porte de Montreuil
(19th arrondissement) and
Bois de Bologne
, which is in the 20th arrondissement.
I hope this guide on the best areas in Paris has helped you and that youâre now ready to enjoy your trip to the French capital.
Please comment below if youâve any questions about Paris, the areas or the hotels mentioned in this guide.
FAQ:
Where to stay in Paris first time?
For a first-time visit to Paris, Iâd personally recommend
Le Marais
as an ideal place to stay. This historic district, stretching across the 3rd and 4th arrondissements, offers a unique mix of old-world charm and modern-day vibrancy that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Paris.
Hereâs why Le Marais would be my top choice:
Central Location
: Le Marais offers a strategic location that makes it easy to explore the city. Landmarks like Notre Dame, the Louvre, and the Centre Pompidou are all within walking distance.
Architectural Beauty
: Le Marais is one of the few areas that preserve the narrow, winding streets of Medieval Paris. Its beautiful old buildings and cobblestone streets will transport you back in time.
Fashion & Shopping
: Known for its boutique fashion stores, vintage shops, and art galleries, Le Marais is a paradise for fashion lovers and art enthusiasts alike.
Food & Drink
: The area is teeming with hip cafĂ©s, bakeries, and top-notch restaurants. Youâll also find a good selection of lively bars and pubs.
Cultural Diversity
: As the historic centre of the Jewish community in Paris and a current hub for the LGBTQ+ community, Le Marais is a testament to the cityâs multicultural heritage and vibrant diversity.
Historic Sites
: From the oldest planned square in Paris, Place des Vosges, to the beautiful MusĂ©e Picasso, thereâs plenty of history and culture to absorb right on your doorstep.
In short, Le Marais is an area that ticks all the boxes for a first-time stay in Paris. Its location, charm, and variety of attractions make it a perfect base to explore the rest of the city.
Where should I stay in Paris to walk everywhere?
Paris is known as the â
City of Walks
â, and itâs the perfect city to explore on foot. Whilst itâs hard to find a location where you can walk to every single attraction, there are certain areas that are perfect for discovering the cityâs diverse facets.
If youâre after quintessential Paris, Saint-Germain-des-PrĂ©s in
the 6th arrondissemen
t is a great place to start. This area is known for its cafĂ©s, once frequented by famous writers and philosophers, as well as a number of art galleries and antique shops. Whatâs more, itâs a short stroll to Notre Dame and the Louvre.
Le Marais
in the 4th arrondissement is another brilliant option, combining history, fashion, and culture. Le Marais is renowned for its narrow, winding streets, beautiful old buildings, and trendy shops. In addition, itâs home to Place des Vosges, the oldest planned square in Paris, and the Pompidou Centre, Parisâ modern art museum.
If you want to be closer to the iconic sights, the area around the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-ElysĂ©es is ideal. Youâll be within walking distance of both the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, and thereâs plenty of shopping and dining options along the Champs-ElysĂ©es.
For a more bohemian experience, consider
Montmartre
in the 18th arrondissement. This area is famous for its artistic heritage, the SacrĂ©-CĆur Basilica, and of course, the stunning views of Paris from the top of the hill.
Remember, Paris is a city best explored without a set plan. So wherever you choose to stay, take the time to wander and let yourself be enchanted by the cityâs many beauties.
Whatâs the best neighbourhood in Paris for families?
For families travelling with kids, the
Opéra
district, located in the 9th arrondissement, would be my top recommendation. This area strikes a perfect balance between being centrally located, culturally rich, and family-friendly.
Here are some reasons why Opéra makes a fantastic base for families:
Central Location
: OpĂ©ra is centrally located and has excellent transport links. Itâs well connected to the rest of the city via the MĂ©tro, making it easy for you and your family to explore other parts of Paris.
Family-friendly Attractions
: This area boasts a plethora of family-friendly attractions. The famous Galeries Lafayette department store, with its impressive stained-glass dome, offers not only shopping but also incredible views over the city from its rooftop terrace. Kids will love visiting the waxworks at Musée Grévin or attending a performance at the Opéra Garnier.
Parks and Green Spaces
: There are several small parks and playgrounds in the area, such as Square Montholon and Square dâAnvers. These green spaces provide a perfect spot for kids to play and for families to relax.
Variety of Dining Options
: OpĂ©ra offers a range of restaurants and cafĂ©s that cater to all tastes and budgets. Thereâs everything from traditional French brasseries to international cuisine.
Shopping
: The area is renowned for its shopping options. From the Grands Boulevards, where youâll find famous department stores like Printemps and Galeries Lafayette, to the smaller boutique shops, thereâs something for everyone.
Safety
: The Opéra district is generally safe and bustling, ensuring a secure environment for your family during your stay.
In essence, Opéra is a neighbourhood that has it all for families. Its central location, range of activities, and excellent amenities make it an ideal spot to base yourselves for a memorable Parisian adventure.

## Best areas in Paris
Paris is one of the largest cities in Europe and the areas vary greatly. Hereâs my quick rundown of the best areas in Paris:
- **[Marais](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/lemarais-hotels)** â best area to stay in the first time âïž
- **[Montmartre](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/montmartrehotels)** â best area to stay for a local vibe
- **[Latin Quarter](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/latinquarter-hotels)** â best area to stay for a lively area
- **[OpĂ©ra](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/opera-hotels)** â best place to stay in Paris with kids
- **[Champs ĂlysĂ©es](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/champselysees-hotels)** â best area to stay for shopping
Below Iâll introduce you to Paris and walk through every recommended area to stay in Paris so you can learn a bit about the different parts of town before your trip to the French capital.

Paris is enchanting â and **[the Montmartre area is one of the best places to stay](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/montmartre-hotels)**.
These districts are called ***arrondissements***.
When choosing an area to stay in Paris, you must therefore look for which arrondissement you are looking into.
What are **the best places to stay in Paris**, you might be thinking?
Below I share the five best areas in Paris to stay in as a tourist.
## 1\. Marais â best area to stay the first time âïž
You can sense the past in ***Le Marais***, where narrow streets and buildings from the Middle Ages still stand.
The Marais is located in the **4th arrondissement** in central Paris and is the favourite area of many tourists in Paris. So if youâre looking for the best place to stay in Paris on your first visit to France, then Marais is a safe bet.
**[See the best hotels in Marais here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/lemarais-hotels)**.
Learn more about Le Marais in this little video guide.
In the Marais, you can discover many different museums, and it is also where **Notre Dame de Paris** is located. Among other attractions, you can experience **Hotel de Ville** and **Place de Bastille**.

The iconic [Notre Dame](https://goo.gl/maps/9V9JZmGqZmzXZhbX6) is located close to Marais.
The gardens by the **Place des Vosges** fountain are also the perfect place to relax.
In the Marais, you will also live close to the river **Seine**, so you can easily cross over to the southern bank and experience **the Latin Quarter**, which is full of life â an area I mention later in this guide to where to stay in Paris as itâs also one of the best areas in the city.
### Places to stay in Marais
The Marais is central, easy to get to by public transport and a fantastic area with lots of small shops, cafes and restaurants.
So, of course, there are also some excellent hotels in Marais. Let me share three great places:
**Best luxury hotel**: **[Hotel du Petit Moulin](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/hotel-petit-moulin)**
Hotel du Petit Moulin is a luxury hotel located in Marais.

Once a 17th-century bakery, this now-modern hotel is distinctively designed by Christian Lacroix.
The hotel offers 17 uniquely designed rooms with essential amenities such as air conditioning, free WiFi, and flat-screen TVs. While no restaurant is on-site, a continental breakfast is served daily, and plenty of dining options are nearby.

Essential services include a 24-hour front desk, daily housekeeping, and concierge services for ticket booking or local recommendations.
Itâs close to significant attractions like the Picasso Museum and Notre Dame Cathedral.
If you appreciate historical charm mixed with modern comforts, Hotel du Petit Moulin could be ideal for your stay in Paris.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/hotel-petit-moulin)**.
**Best mid-range hotel**: **[Les Tournelles](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/les-tournelles-marais)**
Les Tournelles is a charming and perhaps more budget-friendly hotel in Marais.

Some rooms have got that classic â*Paris view*â
The historical building in which the hotel resides adds an authentic Parisian feel, while the modern and stylish interior creates a pleasant atmosphere.
The rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated with warm colours and classic furniture, inviting you to relax after sightseeing in Paris.

Les Tournelles offers a delicious breakfast, which can be enjoyed in the cosy restaurant.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/les-tournelles-marais)**.

Hotel Turenne Le Marais offers a perfect balance between price and comfort, making it an attractive choice for any type of traveller.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/hotel-turenne-marais)**.
Marais is a very popular area, so itâs not here we find the cheapest hotels in Paris.
Check out my other post where I share **[12 of the best hotels in Le Marais](https://destinationwellknown.com/hotels-marais-paris/)** and have a look at my massive Paris Travel Guide on Youtube:
## 2\. Montmartre â best area to stay for a local vibe
***Where to stay in Paris*** if not the Marais? **Montmartre**, in the 18th arrondissement, is a highly charming district and I must admit that Montmartre is my favourite area in Paris.
It may well be that there are also many tourists, but that is so everywhere in Paris â I think Montmartre has a unique, really cosy atmosphere.
And then I imagine a more local vibe here than in the absolute centre of Paris.
**[See the best hotels in Montmartre here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/montmartrehotels)**.

Le Consulat in Montmartre.
The area was once a village for artists, and it is also where both DalĂ and Picasso himself once lived.
Montmartre is known for its hill, where you can take a ride on the cable car or venture into a slightly more challenging activity with the stairs.

At the top of the hill is the white basilica **Sacre Coeur**, which can be seen from most of the city and is worth a visit â even if you donât stay in Montmartre.
And I mean that in the best possible way â I love Montmartre\!
### Places to stay in Montmartre
Montmartre is a relatively small area, and you donât have to live right at the foot of the Sacre-Coeur to feel the good atmosphere in the 18th arrondissement â you can even choose a hotel in the Pigalle area of the 9th arrondissement.
Here are three good hotels in Montmartre in different price ranges.
**Best luxury hotel**: **[HĂŽtel Monsieur Aristide](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/monsieur-aristide)**
HĂŽtel Monsieur Aristide is a genuine jewel in the artistic Montmartre district.

With its unique, bohemian-inspired interior, the hotel is a tribute to the creative community that has made the area famous.
The rooms are cosy and full of character, all decorated with care and attention to detail.

HĂŽtel Monsieur Aristide is just a short walk from the famous SacrĂ©-CĆur basilica and the many charming cafes and shops in Montmartre.
An overnight stay here is a beautiful way to experience the authentic Parisian atmosphere.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/monsieur-aristide)**.
**Best mid-range hotel**: **[Best Western Plus Hotel Litteraire Marcel Ayme](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/bestwestern-litteraire-paris)**
Best Western Plus Hotel Litteraire Marcel Ayme is a hidden gem here in the Montmartre area.

The hotel is named after the famous French author [Marcel Ayme](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcel_Aym%C3%A9), and the decor is inspired by his works, creating a unique and literary atmosphere.
The rooms are tastefully decorated and offer modern comfort combined with historical charm.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/bestwestern-litteraire-paris)**.
**Best budget hotel**: **[HĂŽtel Audran](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/hotel-audran)**
HĂŽtel Audran is the perfect choice for the budget-conscious traveller who wants to experience the charm of historic Montmartre.

Despite its affordable price, this hotel does not lack anything in comfort or atmosphere.

The rooms are bright, clean and cosy, all with modern facilities to ensure a comfortable stay.
Staying at HĂŽtel Audran is an ideal and affordable way to experience authentic Paris.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/hotel-audran)**.
Iâve also got a few Montmartre tips in this Paris video:
## 3\. Latin Quarter â best area to stay for a lively area
If you would like to experience one of the best areas in Paris and stay in a district with lots of soul and colour, then the **Latin Quarter** in Paris is an obvious choice.
Here you are in the 5th arrondissement just south of the Seine.
The district is known, among other things, for its cosy streets, beautiful cafes and restaurants.
**[See the best hotels in Latin Quarter here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/latinquarter-hotels)**.

The Latin Quarter is also home to Sorbonne University, which [dates back to the Middle Ages](https://www.sorbonne-universite.fr/en/university/history-and-heritage/history). Great world-renowned philosophers once studied at this university, so itâs not just *any* university.
In the Latin Quarter in Paris, you can experience, among other things, the Panthéon, Mouffetard Market and much more.
### Places to stay in the Latin Quarter
The Latin Quarter is undoubtedly one of the best areas to stay on your trip to Paris. Let me introduce three good hotels in the Latin Quarter here:
**Best luxury hotel**: **[HĂŽtel La Lanterne](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/la-lanterne-paris)**
HĂŽtel La Lanterne is a proper luxury hotel in the historic Latin Quarter of Paris.

With its elegant decor and top-notch facilities, this is the place where French finesse meets modern luxury.
The rooms are tastefully decorated with attention to detail, and each has its own unique charm.
With an indoor swimming pool and a wellness area, you can relax on your trip to Paris.

The hotel is close to some of Parisâs most famous sights, such as Notre Dame Cathedral, the Pantheon, and Jardin du Luxembourg.
The areaâs famous bookshops, cafes, and restaurants are also around the corner.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/la-lanterne-paris)**.
**Best mid-range hotel**: **[Hotel Oratio](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/hotel-oratio-paris)**
Hotel Oratio is quite an excellent hotel in the lively Latin Quarter.

With its classic charm and modern comfort, this hotel is an ideal place for you if youâre seeking good value for money without compromising quality.

The rooms are bright and comfortable, with a touch of Parisian elegance.
This is the ideal place to stay for those who want to experience Parisâs dynamic culture and history but donât want to spend the whole holiday budget on the hotel.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/hotel-oratio-paris)**.
**Best budget hotel**: **[Hotel Des Nations Saint Germain](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/hotel-des-nationsgermain)**
Hotel Des Nations Saint Germain is a good choice for budget travellers seeking an authentic experience in the heart of Parisâs Latin Quarter.

Despite its affordable price, this hotel has plenty of charm and comfort.
The rooms are inviting and practical, with all the necessary facilities to ensure a comfortable stay.

Thereâs no unnecessary luxury here, but an excellent Parisian atmosphere that makes you feel like a part of the cityâs dynamic life.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/hotel-des-nationsgermain)**.
The Latin Quarter is also featured in my video about the best things to do in Paris:
**[See the best hotels in Opéra here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/opera-hotels)**.
As previously mentioned, it is difficult to put your finger on the best area in Paris and thus also for families with children, but if you book a hotel in **Opéra**, you will not go wrong in the city.
An advantage of staying here is that the area is central and well connected, so whether you land at **[Charles de Gaulle](https://destinationwellknown.com/cdg-to-paris/)** or Orly airport, you can quickly get to your hotel â and back to the airport.

### Places to stay in Opéra
The area around the OpĂ©ra is relatively small, so itâs okay if your hotel is not right next to the opera building or the metro station. Here are three good hotels in OpĂ©ra.
**Best luxury hotel**: **[Chouchou HĂŽtel](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/chouchou-paris)**
Chouchou HĂŽtel is a top-tier hotel in Parisâs desirable OpĂ©ra area.

This hotel is more than just a place to rest your head â itâs a true tribute to the Parisian lifestyle, combining luxury, elegance, and cultural flair.
The rooms are extraordinarily decorated, ranging from chic minimalism to vintage glamour.

Thereâs a romantic vibe at this hotel in Paris, the city of love.
On-site, youâll find an exceptional restaurant, a trendy bar, and a seasonal rooftop terrace, which is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail while watching the sunset over the city roofs.
Located near Opera Garnier, the grand boulevards, and exclusive shops, Chouchou HĂŽtel is the perfect starting point for exploring Paris.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/chouchou-paris)**.
**Best mid-range hotel**: **[HÎtel Excelsior Opéra](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/excelsior-opera)**
HÎtel Excelsior Opéra is an excellent value hotel in Opéra.

This mid-range hotel has a blend of classic charm and modern comfort, making it a welcoming place to stay in the heart of Paris.

The rooms are nicely decorated, with warm colours and comfortable furniture. Some rooms even offer a magnificent view over Parisâs rooftops.
From the hotel, youâre a stoneâs throw from Opera Garnier and a wealth of shopping opportunities on the grand boulevards. In addition, youâre only a short metro ride from the Louvre and other major attractions.
A fine hotel for the price here in Opéra.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/excelsior-opera)**.
**Best budget hotel**: **[Maison Axel Opera](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/maison-axel-opera)**
HÎtel Excelsior Opéra is a good choice for those who want to save a bit of money on accommodation, but still stay in nice surroundings and close to everything in Paris.

This hotel has a mix of classic charm and modern comfort, making it a welcoming place to stay in the heart of Paris.

The rooms are nicely decorated, with warm colours and comfortable furniture. Some rooms even offer a stunning view over Parisâs rooftops.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/maison-axel-opera)**.
## 5\. Champs ĂlysĂ©es â best area to stay for shopping
Although many associate Paris with cosy cafes, historical monuments, buildings and art, the metropolis is also known for its excellent shops with chic clothing.
Paris is not just any city when it comes to shopping opportunities.
And here we canât bypass the **Champs ĂlysĂ©es**, which is famous worldwide and perhaps also one of the most beautiful streets in the world.
**[See the best hotels in the Champs ĂlysĂ©es area here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/champselysees-hotels)**.
Around here, we are in the **8th arrondissement** and still very central in Paris, but in the western part of the city and quite close to [the Eiffel Tower](https://destinationwellknown.com/eiffel-tower-paris/).
The city also goes under the title of âWorldâs fashion capitalâ with [London](https://destinationwellknown.com/where-to-stay-london/), [New York](https://destinationwellknown.com/where-to-stay-nyc/) and [Milan](https://destinationwellknown.com/where-to-stay-milan/).
If you love the big fashion houses and brands such as Dior, Chanel, YSL and Louis Vuitton, then the Champs ĂlysĂ©es is a good choice for where to stay in Paris. On the famous street, you can buy *haute couture* in style.

### Places to stay near Champs ĂlysĂ©es
Unlike the other areas in this guide, the Champs ĂlysĂ©es is not an area but *just* a street, but below I am sharing a few of the best hotels near the famous avenue.
**Best Luxury Hotel**: **[La Demeure Montaigne](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/demeure-paris)**
La Demeure Montaigne is a little luxury hotel tucked away in the heart of Paris.

The hotelâs design is a perfect blend of elegance and comfort, and each room is a small oasis that offers an ideal escape from the busy streets of Paris.
The amenities are incredible, and many rooms have a private terrace where you can enjoy your morning coffee while looking out over the city roofs.

Thereâs also an indoor pool at this luxury hotel in Paris.
If youâre looking for the perfect combination of luxury and location in Paris, you canât go wrong with La Demeure Montaigne.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/demeure-paris)**.
**Best mid-range hotel**: **[citizenM Paris Champs-ĂlysĂ©es](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/citizenm-paris-champs)**
CitizenM Paris Champs-ĂlysĂ©es is a forward-thinking hotel that gives you access to a unique experience right next to the famous Champs-ĂlysĂ©es.

The hotel also has a ârooftopâ bar with views of the Eiffel Tower.
The design is modern and innovative, offering a comfortable and chic atmosphere for guests.
So if you want to try staying at a somewhat unconventional hotel in Paris, this is a good bet.

All rooms have high-tech amenities, including a tablet control system that lets you control everything from lighting to temperature.
CitizenM Paris Champs-ĂlysĂ©es is thus a good choice for you who appreciate comfort, technology, and a fantastic location in the heart of Paris.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/citizenm-paris-champs)**.
**Best budget hotel**: **[Hotel Magda Champs Elysées](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/magda-champselysees)**
Hotel Magda Champs ElysĂ©es is the perfect choice to experience Parisâ charm and stay near Champs ElysĂ©es without breaking the budget.

This rather cheap hotel is only a few minutesâ walk from the Arc de Triomphe and Champs ElysĂ©es.
The hotelâs rooms are cozily decorated, with a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Even though the prices are low, the comfort is high.

All rooms are equipped with modern amenities such as flat-screen TV, free WiFi and air conditioning, which is necessary in the summer in Paris (I once stayed in an Airbnb in Paris in July â Iâm never doing that again đ
)
The hotel also offers a full breakfast buffet each morning and has a cosy lounge where you can relax after a day in Paris.
**[See more photos and book here](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/magda-champselysees)**.
### Unsafe areas to avoid in Paris (where NOT to stay)
A good video about where not to stay in Paris
There **are** some areas you should generally stay away from in Paris.
In Paris, staying away from certain areas in the evening and at night is a good idea. It would be best to avoid places such as the **Gare du Nord** and **Gare de lâEst** area, located in the 10th arrondissement.
At least in the evening and at night.
In the 1st arrondissement is **Chalet Les Halles**, which *could* also be avoided in the evening, and the same goes for the northern part of the 19th arrondissement.
In the evening and at night, it is also not a good idea to stay around **Porte de Montreuil** (19th arrondissement) and **Bois de Bologne**, which is in the 20th arrondissement.
I hope this guide on the best areas in Paris has helped you and that youâre now ready to enjoy your trip to the French capital.
Please comment below if youâve any questions about Paris, the areas or the hotels mentioned in this guide.
***FAQ:***
### Where to stay in Paris first time?
For a first-time visit to Paris, Iâd personally recommend **Le Marais** as an ideal place to stay. This historic district, stretching across the 3rd and 4th arrondissements, offers a unique mix of old-world charm and modern-day vibrancy that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Paris.
Hereâs why Le Marais would be my top choice:
**Central Location**: Le Marais offers a strategic location that makes it easy to explore the city. Landmarks like Notre Dame, the Louvre, and the Centre Pompidou are all within walking distance.
**Architectural Beauty**: Le Marais is one of the few areas that preserve the narrow, winding streets of Medieval Paris. Its beautiful old buildings and cobblestone streets will transport you back in time.
**Fashion & Shopping**: Known for its boutique fashion stores, vintage shops, and art galleries, Le Marais is a paradise for fashion lovers and art enthusiasts alike.
**Food & Drink**: The area is teeming with hip cafĂ©s, bakeries, and top-notch restaurants. Youâll also find a good selection of lively bars and pubs.
**Cultural Diversity**: As the historic centre of the Jewish community in Paris and a current hub for the LGBTQ+ community, Le Marais is a testament to the cityâs multicultural heritage and vibrant diversity.
**Historic Sites**: From the oldest planned square in Paris, Place des Vosges, to the beautiful MusĂ©e Picasso, thereâs plenty of history and culture to absorb right on your doorstep.
In short, Le Marais is an area that ticks all the boxes for a first-time stay in Paris. Its location, charm, and variety of attractions make it a perfect base to explore the rest of the city.
### Where should I stay in Paris to walk everywhere?
Paris is known as the â*City of Walks*â, and itâs the perfect city to explore on foot. Whilst itâs hard to find a location where you can walk to every single attraction, there are certain areas that are perfect for discovering the cityâs diverse facets.
If youâre after quintessential Paris, Saint-Germain-des-PrĂ©s in **the 6th arrondissemen**t is a great place to start. This area is known for its cafĂ©s, once frequented by famous writers and philosophers, as well as a number of art galleries and antique shops. Whatâs more, itâs a short stroll to Notre Dame and the Louvre.
**Le Marais** in the 4th arrondissement is another brilliant option, combining history, fashion, and culture.
For a more bohemian experience, consider **Montmartre** in the 18th arrondissement.
### Whatâs the best neighbourhood in Paris for families?
For families travelling with kids, the **Opéra** district, located in the 9th arrondissement, would be my top recommendation. This area strikes a perfect balance between being centrally located, culturally rich, and family-friendly.
Here are some reasons why Opéra makes a fantastic base for families:
**Central Location**: OpĂ©ra is centrally located and has excellent transport links. Itâs well connected to the rest of the city via the MĂ©tro, making it easy for you and your family to explore other parts of Paris.
**Family-friendly Attractions**: This area boasts a plethora of family-friendly attractions. The famous Galeries Lafayette department store, with its impressive stained-glass dome, offers not only shopping but also incredible views over the city from its rooftop terrace. Kids will love visiting the waxworks at Musée Grévin or attending a performance at the Opéra Garnier.

Paris is one of the largest cities in Europe and the areas vary greatly. Hereâs my quick rundown of the best areas in Paris:
- **[Marais](https://destinationwellknown.com/link/lemarais-hotels)** â best area to stay in the first time âïž

All rooms are equipped with modern amenities such as flat-screen TV, free WiFi and air conditioning, which is necessary in the summer in Paris (I once stayed in an Airbnb in Paris in July â Iâm never doing that again đ
)
For a more bohemian experience, consider **Montmartre** in the 18th arrondissement.
**Parks and Green Spaces**: There are several small parks and playgrounds in the area, such as Square Montholon and Square dâAnvers. These green spaces provide a perfect spot for kids to play and for families to relax.
**Variety of Dining Options**: OpĂ©ra offers a range of restaurants and cafĂ©s that cater to all tastes and budgets. Thereâs everything from traditional French brasseries to international cuisine.
**Shopping**: The area is renowned for its shopping options. From the Grands Boulevards, where youâll find famous department stores like Printemps and Galeries Lafayette, to the smaller boutique shops, thereâs something for everyone.
**Safety**: The Opéra district is generally safe and bustling, ensuring a secure environment for your family during your stay.
In essence, Opéra is a neighbourhood that has it all for families. Its central location, range of activities, and excellent amenities make it an ideal spot to base yourselves for a memorable Parisian adventure.
