Running for seven seasons, the writers created iconic new villains like the Borg, and went deeper in exploring pre-established societies like the Klingons and Romulans, making the galaxy explored by the Federation feel that much more substantial. Boilerpipe Text	Despite the fact that setting a TV show in space can be a pretty expensive proposition, imagining life amongst the stars has been popular for decades across broadcast, cable, and now streaming platforms. Space, in these series, isn’t as terrifying as it can be in the movies . Instead, shows like Star Trek , Cowboy Bebop , Doctor Who , Battlestar Galactica , and Futurama offer a backdrop for the hopes and fears of those brave enough to voyage there. There have been some wonderfully long-running series over the years — three shows on this list span more than four decades — as well as a few shorter-lived but still beloved favorites. Most of these shows are focused on exploration, and the opportunities made possible by visiting a new planet every episode, but there’s still opportunity for an epic two-season look at the rise of fascism in the galaxy, or a show about a dude who likes to watch bad movies with his beloved robots. Below find Consequence ’s ranking of the best space TV shows to date, just as Apple TV’s For All Mankind returns for Season 5 on March 27th. Some of these series make space seem like a magical place full of wonders. Others emphasize the grueling nature of survival. There were plenty of good aspects and plenty of not-so-good ones; but one of the more intriguing developments was an unseen era of war in between Episodes II and III, expanded upon with outstanding dramatic vision and scope by showrunner Dave Filoni in The Clone Wars. In addition to filling in the blanks (and maybe spiritually atoning for the prequels' poorly-written dialogue), The Clone Wars expanded the Star Wars universe and echoed the best instincts of the franchise.
