Waterloo residents can purchase discounted trees this spring through the city’s Plant Waterloo! Spring 2026 Residential Tree Program.
The program, offered by the Waterloo Leisure Services Department, allows residents to buy one or two trees for $20 each, thanks to a donation from The Young Family Foundation. Supplies are limited to encourage broad participation across the community.
Trees must be ordered in advance and picked up from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Waterloo Leisure Services, 1101 Campbell Ave. Trees not claimed by 5:30 p.m. will be considered donated back to the program.
Available species suited to Waterloo’s climate include honeylocust, red maple, Snowdrift crabapple, bur oak, tuliptree, baldcypress, white pine, American linden and chokecherry. Deciduous trees will range from 3 to 10 feet tall at distribution, and conifers will be at least 3 feet tall.
City officials say planting trees can reduce home energy costs by providing shade and windbreaks, improve air quality, help manage stormwater and enhance neighborhood appearance and property values. Residents are encouraged to plant shade trees on the east and west sides of their homes and conifers on the north and west sides to maximize energy efficiency.
The program is limited to two trees per Waterloo household. Orders must be submitted with payment by check. Trees are nonrefundable and are not covered by a warranty.
Residents are reminded to call 811 at least two business days before digging to have underground utilities located.
If trees remain available on distribution day, additional purchases will be offered beginning at 4 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.
Order forms must be completed and returned with payment to Waterloo Leisure Services, 1101 Campbell Ave., Waterloo, IA 50701. For more information or to place orders after April 17, residents should call 319-291-4370 to confirm availability. |

WATERLOO, Iowa — Waterloo residents can purchase discounted trees this spring through the city’s Plant Waterloo! Spring 2026 Residential Tree Program.
The program, offered by the Waterloo Leisure Services Department, allows residents to buy one or two trees for \$20 each, thanks to a donation from The Young Family Foundation.
