Labour Day is on 1 May 2021.
And unfortunately, 1 May 2021 is a
Saturday
.
So… the public holiday is kinda wasted.
I mean, you can’t really expand it into a long weekend or anything…
HOWEVER.
In accordance with the
Employment Act
, if a public holiday falls on a non-working day.
You are entitled to another day off OR one extra day’s salary in lieu of the public holiday at the
gross rate of pay
.
For example, if you’re on a 5-day work week.
Saturday should be considered your non-working day.
For a public holiday that falls on a Saturday, you SHOULD get either a day off or salary in lieu.
