Announcing
@Meta
— the Facebook company’s new name. Meta is helping to build the metaverse, a place where we’ll play and connect in 3D. Welcome to the next chapter of social connection.

Meta is now the parent company for all of Facebook’s social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp) and AR/VR businesses (including Oculus).
During his keynote at the Facebook Connect conference, Mark Zuckerberg (Chairman of Meta) said: “Our mission remains the same — it’s still about bringing people together. But now we have a new North Star, to help bring the metaverse to life, and we have a new name that reflects the full breadth of what we do and the future that we want to help build.”
The name change will not affect any of Facebook’s (or, should we say: Meta’s) social platforms. Facebook, the social network is and will still be called Facebook.
