AI is changing retail. Here’s how businesses can keep up.
Retailers have to get the basics right in order to drive sales in the age of AI.
In the latest episode our Ads Decoded Podcast, Ginny Marvin, Ads Product Liaison, sat down with Firas Yaghi, Global Product Lead for Retail Solutions, and Nadja Bissinger, Group Product Director for Retail on YouTube, to discuss how retailers can adapt to the rapidly evolving advertising landscape.
One takeaway: AI-driven shopping experiences — conversational shopping in AI Mode, virtual try-ons and shoppable CTV — are powered by the basic product data that you provide to Google, so if your Merchant Center feed is messy or incomplete, customers won’t be able to find your products.
Listen in for more — plus, actionable tips to refine your retail engine.
Here’s how we built Gmail to keep your data secure and private in the Gemini era.
With so many new AI tools and features, it's understandable if you have some questions about your privacy in Gmail. Here's what you should know about using Gemini in Gmail:
Google does not train its foundational AI models, including Gemini, on your personal emails. Any access you grant Gemini in Gmail is for isolated tasks — like summarizing a lengthy email — and that’s it. What’s in your inbox stays private, even if you use Gemini to help you.
Gemini in Gmail does not retain your data. We engineered it to work securely inside your inbox so that it only processes what you ask for, then leaves your inbox. Gemini only processes your information to complete your specific request, and doesn't hold onto that data afterward.
Bottom line: Your inbox is your business. Learn more about how Gemini and Gmail work together from Gmail’s VP of product, Blake Barnes.
Expanding AI literacy to Catholic-school classrooms nationwide.
We’re giving every Catholic-school teacher access to AI literacy tools to help prepare educators and students for an AI-forward world. This just-launched
Google Educator Group
, specifically for Catholic-school educators, was founded in partnership with the
National Catholic Educational Association
(NCEA) to make training available to 140,000 U.S. educators who will in turn serve 1.6 million students nationwide.
The initiative is part of the
Google AI Educator Series
, which is designed to deliver AI literacy training to all K–12 and university educators across the country. To kick things off, six Catholic-school educators will visit Google campuses to learn the core foundations of AI, strategies for streamlining administrative tasks so teachers can reclaim their time and more. They’ll then help implement AI training at the regional level.
We’ll be at the NCEA Conference in Minneapolis this week, offering on-the-ground training and a firsthand look at how AI can enhance the classroom experience for students and educators.

Reaffirming our commitment to child safety in the face of European Union inaction
Today, because of the expiry of the ePrivacy derogation enabling the use of technology to detect child sexual abuse material (CSAM), Europe risks leaving children across the globe less protected from the most abhorrent harm. This
concern is shared by a group of almost 250 child rights organizations
and many others.
For years, a number of technology companies have taken voluntary action to detect, remove and report CSAM including, where appropriate, through hash-matching technology — a widely utilized tool to prevent and disrupt real, ongoing harm to victims and survivors. This is not just a matter of law, but of protecting children.
While EU institutions rightly expect technology companies to take action on child safety, the April 3 expiry of the derogation clouds the legal certainty that has helped responsible platforms try to protect our communities, safeguard child victims, and preserve the integrity of our services. We are disappointed by this irresponsible failure to reach an agreement to maintain established efforts to protect children online.
As EU institutions continue to negotiate an immediate, interim solution and durable framework, signatory companies (Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Snap) reaffirm their continued commitment to protecting children and preserving privacy, and will continue to take voluntary action on our relevant Interpersonal Communication Services.
We call on EU institutions to conclude negotiations on a regulatory framework as a matter of urgency.

[AI is changing retail. Here’s how businesses can keep up.](https://blog.google/products/ads-commerce/retail-sales-ai/)

[Here’s how we built Gmail to keep your data secure and private in the Gemini era.](https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/products/gmail/privacy-in-gmail-with-gemini/)
With so many new AI tools and features, it's understandable if you have some questions about your privacy in Gmail. Here's what you should know about using Gemini in Gmail:
1. Google does not train its foundational AI models, including Gemini, on your personal emails. Any access you grant Gemini in Gmail is for isolated tasks — like summarizing a lengthy email — and that’s it. What’s in your inbox stays private, even if you use Gemini to help you.
[Expanding AI literacy to Catholic-school classrooms nationwide.](https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/products/education/catholic-school-ai-literacy/)
We’re giving every Catholic-school teacher access to AI literacy tools to help prepare educators and students for an AI-forward world. This just-launched [Google Educator Group](https://edu.google.com/intl/ALL_us/for-educators/communities/geg/?modal_active=none), specifically for Catholic-school educators, was founded in partnership with the [National Catholic Educational Association](https://ncea.org/NCEA/NCEA/NCEA_Home_Page.aspx) (NCEA) to make training available to 140,000 U.S. educators who will in turn serve 1.6 million students nationwide.
The initiative is part of the [Google AI Educator Series](https://goo.gle/ges), which is designed to deliver AI literacy training to all K–12 and university educators across the country.

[Reaffirming our commitment to child safety in the face of European Union inaction](https://blog.google/company-news/inside-google/around-the-globe/google-europe/reaffirming-commitment-to-child-safety/)
Today, because of the expiry of the ePrivacy derogation enabling the use of technology to detect child sexual abuse material (CSAM), Europe risks leaving children across the globe less protected from the most abhorrent harm. This [concern is shared by a group of almost 250 child rights organizations](https://childsafetyineurope.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/2026.04.01_Joint-Statement-on-the-end-of-EU-legal-basis-to-detect-CSA.pdf) and many others.
