On this street you can see the religious harmony that exists within Singapore, with a short 350m stretch of road featuring several major places of worship – a mosque, Indian Muslim shrine, Chinese temple and church – where they have resided for more than 100 years.\nHead to colourful Haji Lane for art, independent boutiques and global eats\nHaji Lane is considered Singapore's coolest indie street and this vibrant alley is packed with indie shops and boutiques, street art and vibrant murals, quirky cafes and lively bars. It's also a great place for a picnic on a sunny day with lots of shaded areas and parkland, and the beach which stretched several kilometres.\nExplore Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site – Singapore Botanic Gardens\nIt would be rude to visit \"The Garden City\" of Singapore and not pay a visit to the\nSingapore Botanic Gardens\n– the country's first\nUNESCO World Heritage Site\n. The gardens are free to enter (with some sections such as the\nOrchid House available to enter for a small fee\n). The botanic gardens, which were founded in 1875, are in the heart of the city and have become an institution for conservation and education.\nVisit historical bunkers and WWII exhibits at Fort Siloso on Sentosa Island\nPerched on Sentosa’s cliffs, Fort Siloso is more than just a historic site—it’s a walk through time with epic views of the South China Sea. As you wander the leafy trails, you’ll stumble across original gun pits, hidden underground chambers, and even a powerful re-creation of the 1942 surrender that shaped Singapore’s history. It’s the kind of place that feels equal parts history lesson and adventure.\nWatch the light show at Marina Bay\nSingapore loves putting on a show to welcome visitors and lucky for the budget-conscious traveller, they're FREE to enjoy! Every evening you can enjoy a 15-minute \nSpectra\nshow with projections, lasers and dancing fountains every evening on the waterfront in front of Marina Bay Sands. Shows are at 8pm and 9pm, with an additional show at 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.\nTop tip – if you watch the 8pm Spectra show, you can wander over to Gardens by the Bay afterwards to catch the 8.45pm Garden Rhapsody light show at the Supertree Grove!\nVisit Joo Chiat and the prettiest street in Singapore\nThink pastel-perfect shophouses, rainbow facades, and the kind of street that makes you want to stop every two seconds for photos. Joo Chiat is hands down one of the most charming spots in Singapore and perfect for a slow wander if you love pretty corners and culture mixed together. Plus it's free to explore and snap all the gorgeous Instagram-worth Singapore photos you want!\nExplore Fort Canning Park – a iconic historical hilltop landmark\nRight in the middle of the city, Fort Canning feels like an escape into another era. This hilltop park has witnessed everything from royal palaces to WWII bunkers, but today it’s a lush green spot where you can take a breather, explore ancient gates, or just picnic under the trees with skyline views peeking through.\nWatch free dance, music and theatre showcases at The Esplanade\nNicknamed “the durian” thanks to its spiky design, The Esplanade isn’t just a theatre—it’s where you can catch free performances almost any night of the week. From local bands to traditional dance, it’s the perfect way to dip into Singapore’s creative scene without spending a cent.\nWalk along the historic Singapore River\nTake a slow stroll along the river and you’ll walk past the very streets where Singapore first began as a trading port. It’s a reminder that Singapore is more than just a city—it’s also an incredible natural habitat.\nDon't miss Singapore’s free museums\nBudget-friendly culture fix? Yes, please. Several of\nSingapore’s museums offer free entry\n, from the National Gallery’s open exhibitions to quirky hidden gems like the Singapore City Gallery. Perfect for escaping the heat while learning something new about the city.\nHike through the jungle at Sentosa Nature Discovery\nIf you fancy escaping the city and hiking through a rainforest,\nhead to Sentosa Island for the day\nand take on a 1.8km hike at Sentosa Nature Discovery. But why stop there? Sentosa Island has lots of great hikes and walking trails to explore and they're all FREE to hike and explore. Take in the views at Imbiah Lookout, or enjoy the free scented tours at Scentopia.\nVisit the Sultan Mosque and wander along Arab Street\nWith its golden dome gleaming above Kampong Glam, the Sultan Mosque is a must-see. Pair it with a wander through Arab Street and Haji Lane where colourful murals, indie boutiques, and little cafes spill out onto the lanes. It’s vibrant, eclectic, and full of energy.\nTake a walk to Merlion Park and spot the iconic 28-foot Merlion statue\nYes, it’s touristy—but honestly, it’s a must.\nThe Merlion\nis Singapore’s mascot, half lion and half fish, proudly spraying water into Marina Bay. Go at sunrise or in the evening for the best light (and fewer crowds) while you soak up those skyline views.\nGo window shopping at Orchard Road\nOrchard Road is like retail heaven, with mall after mall packed with everything from designer labels to quirky local brands. Even if shopping isn’t your thing, the neon lights and buzzing atmosphere are worth experiencing. Plus, it’s a great spot to duck into the air-con if the humidity gets too much.\nTake a wander through Clarke Quay at night\nClarke Quay really comes alive once the sun sets. It's a sight iconic to Singapore, and proof that this is a country truly living in the future. One of my favourite experiences when visiting Singapore – it blew my mind that you could explore so much of Gardens By The Bay AND visit the Supertree Grove for FREE. If you're looking for the best free things to do in Singapore, this deserves to be at the top of your list.\n\nYou can easily spend a day exploring the 101 hectare nature park by the Marina Bay Waterfront (there's three waterfront gardens such as Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden). There's actually so many free things to do while at Jewel Changi Airport including the most iconic free attraction – the world's tallest indoor waterfall, HSBC Rain Vortex.\n\nLocated in the heart of the Shiseido Forest Valley which is paradise for plant lovers and a perfect place to refresh after a long flight, you can even take part in hiking activities to mini waterfalls and walking trails – perfect for getting active and forest bathing.\n\nThe airport boasts many art installations including Grains of Thought and Crystal Clouds, why not explore the airport and see if you can visit them all? If you prefer your art on the screen, why not visit Jewel Changi Cinema, a free movie spot where movies are screened 24 hours a day. Head to Today at Apple where all visitors can take part in free sessions to learn about mobile photography and videography through hands-on activities.\n\nPokemon fans will be excited to know that the Jewel Changi Airport app is partnered with The Pokemon Company and you can complete missions around the airport including catching Magikarp at the Shiseido Utah Valley East Trail – earn points and redeem them for prizes! While it does have a reputation as an expensive day trip, it's actually possible to visit for FREE. Entry to Sentosa Island is free of charge and you can walk, cycle or catch the MRT (train\/bus) to the island.\n\nOnce you're at the island, there is a free tram along the length of the island but you can also walk, hike and explore on foot. There are lots of beautiful white sandy beaches and it is safe to swim. Not only is the architecture of the building a spectacular contrast to the nearby tower blocks of residential housing and the skyscraper offices, but this is a great place to learn more about Singapore's spiritual heritage.\n\nIf you are visiting, please make sure to respect The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum as a religious and cultural institution by dressing appropriately and not taking photos where there are signs prohibiting it.\n\n### Visit South East Asia's most Southern point of Continental Asia\nA fascinating pit-stop for your visit to Sentosa Island – you can walk across a floating bridge and stand on the most Southern point of Continental Asia within South-East Asia.\n\nThis point on Palawan Island is also the closest point in Asia to the equator. This beautiful area caters to all abilities, with the popular MacRitchie TreeTop Walk stretching just 250m across a suspension bridge.\n\nThere's also an easy 2km Prunus Trail with scenic boardwalks for beginner hikers. I was so sad to miss doing the 10.3km MacRitchie Nature Trail hike, which includes the iconic TreeTop Walk, during my trip but it will be top of my list for my next visit.\n\nI recommend starting the hike early before it gets too hot and humid. [Little India, Singapore,](https:\/\/www.visitsingapore.com\/neighbourhood\/featured-neighbourhood\/little-india\/) is the place to go for the very best Indian food, street art, beautiful temple and shopping, but even if you're on a budget, it's fascinating to just walk around and absorb the atmosphere.\n\nLocated just across from Chinatown, it's worth exploring both areas in a day to see the contrast between cultures – truly representing the \"melting pot\" that makes up Singapore. You may find it interesting to also check out Telok Ayer Street – or \"Harmony Street\" on the way. On this street you can see the religious harmony that exists within Singapore, with a short 350m stretch of road featuring several major places of worship – a mosque, Indian Muslim shrine, Chinese temple and church – where they have resided for more than 100 years.\n\n### Head to colourful Haji Lane for art, independent boutiques and global eats\nHaji Lane is considered Singapore's coolest indie street and this vibrant alley is packed with indie shops and boutiques, street art and vibrant murals, quirky cafes and lively bars. It's a sight iconic to Singapore, and proof that this is a country truly living in the future. One of my favourite experiences when visiting Singapore – it blew my mind that you could explore so much of Gardens By The Bay AND visit the Supertree Grove for FREE. If you're looking for the best free things to do in Singapore, this deserves to be at the top of your list. You can easily spend a day exploring the 101 hectare nature park by the Marina Bay Waterfront (there's three waterfront gardens such as Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden). Located in the heart of the Shiseido Forest Valley which is paradise for plant lovers and a perfect place to refresh after a long flight, you can even take part in hiking activities to mini waterfalls and walking trails – perfect for getting active and forest bathing. The airport boasts many art installations including Grains of Thought and Crystal Clouds, why not explore the airport and see if you can visit them all? If you prefer your art on the screen, why not visit Jewel Changi Cinema, a free movie spot where movies are screened 24 hours a day. Head to Today at Apple where all visitors can take part in free sessions to learn about mobile photography and videography through hands-on activities. Pokemon fans will be excited to know that the Jewel Changi Airport app is partnered with The Pokemon Company and you can complete missions around the airport including catching Magikarp at the Shiseido Utah Valley East Trail – earn points and redeem them for prizes! While it does have a reputation as an expensive day trip, it's actually possible to visit for FREE. Entry to Sentosa Island is free of charge and you can walk, cycle or catch the MRT (train\/bus) to the island. Once you're at the island, there is a free tram along the length of the island but you can also walk, hike and explore on foot. There are lots of beautiful white sandy beaches and it is safe to swim. Not only is the architecture of the building a spectacular contrast to the nearby tower blocks of residential housing and the skyscraper offices, but this is a great place to learn more about Singapore's spiritual heritage. If you are visiting, please make sure to respect The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum as a religious and cultural institution by dressing appropriately and not taking photos where there are signs prohibiting it. Visit South East Asia's most Southern point of Continental Asia A fascinating pit-stop for your visit to Sentosa Island – you can walk across a floating bridge and stand on the most Southern point of Continental Asia within South-East Asia. This point on Palawan Island is also the closest point in Asia to the equator. This beautiful area caters to all abilities, with the popular MacRitchie TreeTop Walk stretching just 250m across a suspension bridge. There's also an easy 2km Prunus Trail with scenic boardwalks for beginner hikers. I was so sad to miss doing the 10.3km MacRitchie Nature Trail hike, which includes the iconic TreeTop Walk, during my trip but it will be top of my list for my next visit. I recommend starting the hike early before it gets too hot and humid. [Little India, Singapore,](https:\/\/www.visitsingapore.com\/neighbourhood\/featured-neighbourhood\/little-india\/) is the place to go for the very best Indian food, street art, beautiful temple and shopping, but even if you're on a budget, it's fascinating to just walk around and absorb the atmosphere. Located just across from Chinatown, it's worth exploring both areas in a day to see the contrast between cultures – truly representing the \"melting pot\" that makes up Singapore. You may find it interesting to also check out Telok Ayer Street – or \"Harmony Street\" on the way. On this street you can see the religious harmony that exists within Singapore, with a short 350m stretch of road featuring several major places of worship – a mosque, Indian Muslim shrine, Chinese temple and church – where they have resided for more than 100 years. Head to colourful Haji Lane for art, independent boutiques and global eats Haji Lane is considered Singapore's coolest indie street and this vibrant alley is packed with indie shops and boutiques, street art and vibrant murals, quirky cafes and lively bars. It's perfect to visit day or night, but be sure to learn about the rich history of the area within Kampong Gelam. [Haji Lane](https:\/\/visitkamponggelam.com.sg\/haji-lane\/) was once used by Aram pilgrim-brokers to house Muslims on their spiritual journey to Mecca, then later in the 1960's and 70's the area provided a home for poor Malay families before being brought back to life at the turn of the Millenium. Swim at East Coast Park's beach & play areas If you're travelling with children, East Coast Park is a great place to visit with a man-made beach, waterslides, indoor and outdoor play areas to explore. It's also a great place for a picnic on a sunny day with lots of shaded areas and parkland, and the beach which stretched several kilometres. Explore Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site – Singapore Botanic Gardens It would be rude to visit \"The Garden City\" of Singapore and not pay a visit to the [Singapore Botanic Gardens](https:\/\/www.nparks.gov.sg\/SBG) – the country's first [UNESCO World Heritage Site](https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/1483\/). I would actually go as far as saying many of the Singapore activities on this list were some of my favourite things I did when visiting earlier this year. I previously had avoided visiting Singapore when I was backpacking Asia because I was worried it was too expensive, but now having visited many years later, I can assure you that there are so many ways to explore Singapore on a budget without sacrificing on fun, food or finances. Located in the heart of the Shiseido Forest Valley which is paradise for plant lovers and a perfect place to refresh after a long flight, you can even take part in hiking activities to mini waterfalls and walking trails – perfect for getting active and forest bathing. The airport boasts many art installations including Grains of Thought and Crystal Clouds, why not explore the airport and see if you can visit them all? If you prefer your art on the screen, why not visit Jewel Changi Cinema, a free movie spot where movies are screened 24 hours a day. While it does have a reputation as an expensive day trip, it's actually possible to visit for FREE. Entry to Sentosa Island is free of charge and you can walk, cycle or catch the MRT (train/bus) to the island. Once you're at the island, there is a free tram along the length of the island but you can also walk, hike and explore on foot. There are lots of beautiful white sandy beaches and it is safe to swim. There's lots of watersports available and access to theme parks and activities, but you could also just take snacks and relax on the many beaches including Palawan, Siloso and Tanjong Beaches. >> Read my full guide to Sentosa Island: 1 Day Itinerary – Singapore Day Trip Explore the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum A sacred Buddhist temple where the tooth relic of the Buddha is stored is a must-visit when exploring Chinatown, Singapore. Not only is the architecture of the building a spectacular contrast to the nearby tower blocks of residential housing and the skyscraper offices, but this is a great place to learn more about Singapore's spiritual heritage. If you are visiting, please make sure to respect The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum as a religious and cultural institution by dressing appropriately and not taking photos where there are signs prohibiting it. Visit South East Asia's most Southern point of Continental Asia A fascinating pit-stop for your visit to Sentosa Island – you can walk across a floating bridge and stand on the most Southern point of Continental Asia within South-East Asia. This point on Palawan Island is also the closest point in Asia to the equator. It's known as one of Sentosa's most scenic and unique landmarks and well worth a visit if you're visiting the popular Singaporean Island and fancy a free activity to fill your visit. Hike The MacRitchie Nature Trail If you love to stay active when you travel, you won't want to miss exploring the FREE MacRitchie Nature Trail for a chance too spot the plants and animals high in the forest canopy. This beautiful area caters to all abilities, with the popular MacRitchie TreeTop Walk stretching just 250m across a suspension bridge. There's also an easy 2km Prunus Trail with scenic boardwalks for beginner hikers. I was so sad to miss doing the 10.3km MacRitchie Nature Trail hike, which includes the iconic TreeTop Walk, during my trip but it will be top of my list for my next visit. Learn the history of Chinatown You can't travel to Singapore without a visit to Chinatown – it's a must-do for any first-time visitor. If you're looking for free things to do in Singapore, wandering the streets of Chinatown and seeing some of the cultural sights such as the oldest Chinese temple, Thian Hock Keng Temple, and taking in the vibrant streets and traditions of the area. There are four main streets to explore – Mosque Street, Temple Street, Pagoda Street and Smith (Food) Street. You could even plan a visit to Chinatown Singapore to coincide with grand celebrations like Chinese New Year that provide a glimpse into the vibrant traditions of this area. >> Check out this FREE Chinatown Walking Trail Hike 10km on the Southern Ridges Don't miss out on some of the best views of Singapore's skyline – enjoy this unique outdoor experience in the southwest of Singapore.. Explore the Southern Ridges for a FREE 10km hiking trail that starts from the country’s second-highest hill, Mount Faber, to the historic Kent Ridge Park. Along the route you'll enjoy lush hilly parks of Mount Faber, Telok Blangah Hill and Kent Ridge, while also seeing the Henderson Waves – the tallest pedestrian bridge in Singapore and stroll along elevated canopy walks. >> Check out this guide to Hort Park & the Southern Ridges Eat authentic local fare in Little India As a Tamil girl myself, I was very excited to explore Little India and I wasn't disappointed. Little India, Singapore, is the place to go for the very best Indian food, street art, beautiful temple and shopping, but even if you're on a budget, it's fascinating to just walk around and absorb the atmosphere. Located just across from Chinatown, it's worth exploring both areas in a day to see the contrast between cultures – truly representing the "melting pot" that makes up Singapore. You may find it interesting to also check out Telok Ayer Street – or "Harmony Street" on the way. On this street you can see the religious harmony that exists within Singapore, with a short 350m stretch of road featuring several major places of worship – a mosque, Indian Muslim shrine, Chinese temple and church – where they have resided for more than 100 years. Head to colourful Haji Lane for art, independent boutiques and global eats Haji Lane is considered Singapore's coolest indie street and this vibrant alley is packed with indie shops and boutiques, street art and vibrant murals, quirky cafes and lively bars. It's perfect to visit day or night, but be sure to learn about the rich history of the area within Kampong Gelam. Haji Lane was once used by Aram pilgrim-brokers to house Muslims on their spiritual journey to Mecca, then later in the 1960's and 70's the area provided a home for poor Malay families before being brought back to life at the turn of the Millenium. Swim at East Coast Park's beach & play areas If you're travelling with children, East Coast Park is a great place to visit with a man-made beach, waterslides, indoor and outdoor play areas to explore. It's also a great place for a picnic on a sunny day with lots of shaded areas and parkland, and the beach which stretched several kilometres. Explore Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site – Singapore Botanic Gardens It would be rude to visit "The Garden City" of Singapore and not pay a visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens – the country's first UNESCO World Heritage Site . The gardens are free to enter (with some sections such as the Orchid House available to enter for a small fee ). The botanic gardens, which were founded in 1875, are in the heart of the city and have become an institution for conservation and education. Visit historical bunkers and WWII exhibits at Fort Siloso on Sentosa Island Perched on Sentosa’s cliffs, Fort Siloso is more than just a historic site—it’s a walk through time with epic views of the South China Sea. As you wander the leafy trails, you’ll stumble across original gun pits, hidden underground chambers, and even a powerful re-creation of the 1942 surrender that shaped Singapore’s history. It’s the kind of place that feels equal parts history lesson and adventure. Watch the light show at Marina Bay Singapore loves putting on a show to welcome visitors and lucky for the budget-conscious traveller, they're FREE to enjoy! Every evening you can enjoy a 15-minute Spectra show with projections, lasers and dancing fountains every evening on the waterfront in front of Marina Bay Sands. Shows are at 8pm and 9pm, with an additional show at 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Top tip – if you watch the 8pm Spectra show, you can wander over to Gardens by the Bay afterwards to catch the 8.45pm Garden Rhapsody light show at the Supertree Grove! Visit Joo Chiat and the prettiest street in Singapore Think pastel-perfect shophouses, rainbow facades, and the kind of street that makes you want to stop every two seconds for photos. Joo Chiat is hands down one of the most charming spots in Singapore and perfect for a slow wander if you love pretty corners and culture mixed together. Plus it's free to explore and snap all the gorgeous Instagram-worth Singapore photos you want! Explore Fort Canning Park – a iconic historical hilltop landmark Right in the middle of the city, Fort Canning feels like an escape into another era. This hilltop park has witnessed everything from royal palaces to WWII bunkers, but today it’s a lush green spot where you can take a breather, explore ancient gates, or just picnic under the trees with skyline views peeking through. Watch free dance, music and theatre showcases at The Esplanade Nicknamed “the durian” thanks to its spiky design, The Esplanade isn’t just a theatre—it’s where you can catch free performances almost any night of the week. From local bands to traditional dance, it’s the perfect way to dip into Singapore’s creative scene without spending a cent. Walk along the historic Singapore River Take a slow stroll along the river and you’ll walk past the very streets where Singapore first began as a trading port. These days the old godowns and warehouses are home to chic cafes and bars, but the history still lingers in the bridges and colonial architecture. Sunset here is extra special. Explore the mangrove forests of Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve This one feels worlds away from the skyscrapers. Sungei Buloh is a wild pocket of mangroves, mudflats, and boardwalk trails where you can spot everything from mudskippers and monitor lizards to migratory birds. It’s a reminder that Singapore is more than just a city—it’s also an incredible natural habitat. Don't miss Singapore’s free museums Budget-friendly culture fix? Yes, please. Several of Singapore’s museums offer free entry , from the National Gallery’s open exhibitions to quirky hidden gems like the Singapore City Gallery. Perfect for escaping the heat while learning something new about the city. Hike through the jungle at Sentosa Nature Discovery If you fancy escaping the city and hiking through a rainforest, head to Sentosa Island for the day and take on a 1.8km hike at Sentosa Nature Discovery. But why stop there? Sentosa Island has lots of great hikes and walking trails to explore and they're all FREE to hike and explore. Take in the views at Imbiah Lookout, or enjoy the free scented tours at Scentopia. Visit the Sultan Mosque and wander along Arab Street With its golden dome gleaming above Kampong Glam, the Sultan Mosque is a must-see. Pair it with a wander through Arab Street and Haji Lane where colourful murals, indie boutiques, and little cafes spill out onto the lanes. It’s vibrant, eclectic, and full of energy. Take a walk to Merlion Park and spot the iconic 28-foot Merlion statue Yes, it’s touristy—but honestly, it’s a must. The Merlion is Singapore’s mascot, half lion and half fish, proudly spraying water into Marina Bay. Go at sunrise or in the evening for the best light (and fewer crowds) while you soak up those skyline views. Go window shopping at Orchard Road Orchard Road is like retail heaven, with mall after mall packed with everything from designer labels to quirky local brands. Even if shopping isn’t your thing, the neon lights and buzzing atmosphere are worth experiencing. Plus, it’s a great spot to duck into the air-con if the humidity gets too much. Take a wander through Clarke Quay at night Clarke Quay really comes alive once the sun sets. Think colourful riverside shophouses glowing in neon, live music floating out of bars, and a lively energy that makes it the perfect solo-friendly spot for people-watching (or a cheeky cocktail). Visit Haw Par Villa for FREE One of the strangest attractions in Singapore, Haw Par Villa is a surreal theme park filled with sculptures and dioramas from Chinese folklore and mythology. It’s weird, fascinating, and completely free—making it the kind of place you’ll still be talking about long after your trip. Changi Point Coastal Walk Another FREE hiking trail, this time following the beautiful coastline of Singapore with amazing views and wildlife to spot. The Changi Point Coastal Walk is a 2.2km, 45-minute easy boardwalk with six sections, Creek Walk, Beach Walk, Sailing Point Walk, Cliff Walk, Kelong Walk and Sunset Walk. The trail is open 24 hours daily. One of my favourite experiences when visiting Singapore – it blew my mind that you could explore so much of Gardens By The Bay AND visit the Supertree Grove for FREE. If you're looking for the best free things to do in Singapore, this deserves to be at the top of your list. You can easily spend a day exploring the 101 hectare nature park by the Marina Bay Waterfront (there's three waterfront gardens such as Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden). Make sure you stick around, or come back in the evening for the spectacular [Garden Rhapsody](https://www.gardensbythebay.com.sg/en/things-to-do/calendar-of-events/garden-rhapsody.html) light show at the Supertree Grove – it repeats at 7.45pm and 8.45pm every night and is truly magical. There's actually so many free things to do while at Jewel Changi Airport including the most iconic free attraction – the world's tallest indoor waterfall, HSBC Rain Vortex. Located in the heart of the Shiseido Forest Valley which is paradise for plant lovers and a perfect place to refresh after a long flight, you can even take part in hiking activities to mini waterfalls and walking trails – perfect for getting active and forest bathing. The airport boasts many art installations including Grains of Thought and Crystal Clouds, why not explore the airport and see if you can visit them all? If you prefer your art on the screen, why not visit Jewel Changi Cinema, a free movie spot where movies are screened 24 hours a day. Head to Today at Apple where all visitors can take part in free sessions to learn about mobile photography and videography through hands-on activities. Pokemon fans will be excited to know that the Jewel Changi Airport app is partnered with The Pokemon Company and you can complete missions around the airport including catching Magikarp at the Shiseido Utah Valley East Trail – earn points and redeem them for prizes! While it does have a reputation as an expensive day trip, it's actually possible to visit for FREE. Entry to Sentosa Island is free of charge and you can walk, cycle or catch the MRT (train/bus) to the island. Once you're at the island, there is a free tram along the length of the island but you can also walk, hike and explore on foot. There are lots of beautiful white sandy beaches and it is safe to swim. Not only is the architecture of the building a spectacular contrast to the nearby tower blocks of residential housing and the skyscraper offices, but this is a great place to learn more about Singapore's spiritual heritage. If you are visiting, please make sure to respect The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum as a religious and cultural institution by dressing appropriately and not taking photos where there are signs prohibiting it. ### Visit South East Asia's most Southern point of Continental Asia A fascinating pit-stop for your visit to Sentosa Island – you can walk across a floating bridge and stand on the most Southern point of Continental Asia within South-East Asia. This point on Palawan Island is also the closest point in Asia to the equator. This beautiful area caters to all abilities, with the popular MacRitchie TreeTop Walk stretching just 250m across a suspension bridge. There's also an easy 2km Prunus Trail with scenic boardwalks for beginner hikers. I was so sad to miss doing the 10.3km MacRitchie Nature Trail hike, which includes the iconic TreeTop Walk, during my trip but it will be top of my list for my next visit. I recommend starting the hike early before it gets too hot and humid. [Little India, Singapore,](https://www.visitsingapore.com/neighbourhood/featured-neighbourhood/little-india/) is the place to go for the very best Indian food, street art, beautiful temple and shopping, but even if you're on a budget, it's fascinating to just walk around and absorb the atmosphere. Located just across from Chinatown, it's worth exploring both areas in a day to see the contrast between cultures – truly representing the "melting pot" that makes up Singapore. You may find it interesting to also check out Telok Ayer Street – or "Harmony Street" on the way. On this street you can see the religious harmony that exists within Singapore, with a short 350m stretch of road featuring several major places of worship – a mosque, Indian Muslim shrine, Chinese temple and church – where they have resided for more than 100 years. ### Head to colourful Haji Lane for art, independent boutiques and global eats Haji Lane is considered Singapore's coolest indie street and this vibrant alley is packed with indie shops and boutiques, street art and vibrant murals, quirky cafes and lively bars. It's perfect to visit day or night, but be sure to learn about the rich history of the area within Kampong Gelam. [Haji Lane](https://visitkamponggelam.com.sg/haji-lane/) was once used by Aram pilgrim-brokers to house Muslims on their spiritual journey to Mecca, then later in the 1960's and 70's the area provided a home for poor Malay families before being brought back to life at the turn of the Millenium. ### Swim at East Coast Park's beach & play areas If you're travelling with children, East Coast Park is a great place to visit with a man-made beach, waterslides, indoor and outdoor play areas to explore. It's also a great place for a picnic on a sunny day with lots of shaded areas and parkland, and the beach which stretched several kilometres. ### Explore Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site – Singapore Botanic Gardens It would be rude to visit "The Garden City" of Singapore and not pay a visit to the [Singapore Botanic Gardens](https://www.nparks.gov.sg/SBG) – the country's first [UNESCO World Heritage Site](https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1483/). The gardens are free to enter (with some sections such as the [Orchid House available to enter for a small fee](https://klook.tpk.lv/iMhou1Gu)). As you wander the leafy trails, you’ll stumble across original gun pits, hidden underground chambers, and even a powerful re-creation of the 1942 surrender that shaped Singapore’s history. It’s the kind of place that feels equal parts history lesson and adventure. ### Watch the light show at Marina Bay Singapore loves putting on a show to welcome visitors and lucky for the budget-conscious traveller, they're FREE to enjoy! Every evening you can enjoy a 15-minute [Spectra](https://www.marinabaysands.com/attractions/spectra.html) show with projections, lasers and dancing fountains every evening on the waterfront in front of Marina Bay Sands. Shows are at 8pm and 9pm, with an additional show at 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Top tip – if you watch the 8pm Spectra show, you can wander over to Gardens by the Bay afterwards to catch the 8.45pm Garden Rhapsody light show at the Supertree Grove\! ### Visit Joo Chiat and the prettiest street in Singapore Think pastel-perfect shophouses, rainbow facades, and the kind of street that makes you want to stop every two seconds for photos. Joo Chiat is hands down one of the most charming spots in Singapore and perfect for a slow wander if you love pretty corners and culture mixed together. From local bands to traditional dance, it’s the perfect way to dip into Singapore’s creative scene without spending a cent. ### Walk along the historic Singapore River Take a slow stroll along the river and you’ll walk past the very streets where Singapore first began as a trading port. These days the old godowns and warehouses are home to chic cafes and bars, but the history still lingers in the bridges and colonial architecture. It’s a reminder that Singapore is more than just a city—it’s also an incredible natural habitat. ### Don't miss Singapore’s free museums Budget-friendly culture fix? Yes, please. It’s vibrant, eclectic, and full of energy. ### Take a walk to Merlion Park and spot the iconic 28-foot Merlion statue Yes, it’s touristy—but honestly, it’s a must. [The Merlion](https://www.visitsingapore.com/neighbourhood/featured-neighbourhood/marina-bay/merlion-park/) is Singapore’s mascot, half lion and half fish, proudly spraying water into Marina Bay. Go at sunrise or in the evening for the best light (and fewer crowds) while you soak up those skyline views. ### Go window shopping at Orchard Road Orchard Road is like retail heaven, with mall after mall packed with everything from designer labels to quirky local brands. Even if shopping isn’t your thing, the neon lights and buzzing atmosphere are worth experiencing. Think colourful riverside shophouses glowing in neon, live music floating out of bars, and a lively energy that makes it the perfect solo-friendly spot for people-watching (or a cheeky cocktail). ### Visit Haw Par Villa for FREE One of the strangest attractions in Singapore, [Haw Par Villa](https://www.hawparvilla.sg/) is a surreal theme park filled with sculptures and dioramas from Chinese folklore and mythology. It’s weird, fascinating, and completely free—making it the kind of place you’ll still be talking about long after your trip. ### Changi Point Coastal Walk Another FREE hiking trail, this time following the beautiful coastline of Singapore with amazing views and wildlife to spot. The Changi Point Coastal Walk is a 2.2km, 45-minute easy boardwalk with six sections, Creek Walk, Beach Walk, Sailing Point Walk, Cliff Walk, Kelong Walk and Sunset Walk. The trail is open 24 hours daily. It's a sight iconic to Singapore, and proof that this is a country truly living in the future. One of my favourite experiences when visiting Singapore – it blew my mind that you could explore so much of Gardens By The Bay AND visit the Supertree Grove for FREE. If you're looking for the best free things to do in Singapore, this deserves to be at the top of your list. You can easily spend a day exploring the 101 hectare nature park by the Marina Bay Waterfront (there's three waterfront gardens such as Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden). There's actually so many free things to do while at Jewel Changi Airport including the most iconic free attraction – the world's tallest indoor waterfall, HSBC Rain Vortex. Located in the heart of the Shiseido Forest Valley which is paradise for plant lovers and a perfect place to refresh after a long flight, you can even take part in hiking activities to mini waterfalls and walking trails – perfect for getting active and forest bathing. The airport boasts many art installations including Grains of Thought and Crystal Clouds, why not explore the airport and see if you can visit them all? If you prefer your art on the screen, why not visit Jewel Changi Cinema, a free movie spot where movies are screened 24 hours a day. Head to Today at Apple where all visitors can take part in free sessions to learn about mobile photography and videography through hands-on activities. Pokemon fans will be excited to know that the Jewel Changi Airport app is partnered with The Pokemon Company and you can complete missions around the airport including catching Magikarp at the Shiseido Utah Valley East Trail – earn points and redeem them for prizes! Finally, don't miss out on the free massage chairs located throughout the terminal. While it does have a reputation as an expensive day trip, it's actually possible to visit for FREE. Entry to Sentosa Island is free of charge and you can walk, cycle or catch the MRT (train/bus) to the island. Once you're at the island, there is a free tram along the length of the island but you can also walk, hike and explore on foot. There are lots of beautiful white sandy beaches and it is safe to swim. Not only is the architecture of the building a spectacular contrast to the nearby tower blocks of residential housing and the skyscraper offices, but this is a great place to learn more about Singapore's spiritual heritage. If you are visiting, please make sure to respect The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum as a religious and cultural institution by dressing appropriately and not taking photos where there are signs prohibiting it. Visit South East Asia's most Southern point of Continental Asia A fascinating pit-stop for your visit to Sentosa Island – you can walk across a floating bridge and stand on the most Southern point of Continental Asia within South-East Asia. This point on Palawan Island is also the closest point in Asia to the equator. This beautiful area caters to all abilities, with the popular MacRitchie TreeTop Walk stretching just 250m across a suspension bridge. There's also an easy 2km Prunus Trail with scenic boardwalks for beginner hikers. I was so sad to miss doing the 10.3km MacRitchie Nature Trail hike, which includes the iconic TreeTop Walk, during my trip but it will be top of my list for my next visit. I recommend starting the hike early before it gets too hot and humid. Learn the history of Chinatown You can't travel to Singapore without a visit to Chinatown – it's a must-do for any first-time visitor. There are four main streets to explore – Mosque Street, Temple Street, Pagoda Street and Smith (Food) Street. [Little India, Singapore,](https://www.visitsingapore.com/neighbourhood/featured-neighbourhood/little-india/) is the place to go for the very best Indian food, street art, beautiful temple and shopping, but even if you're on a budget, it's fascinating to just walk around and absorb the atmosphere. Located just across from Chinatown, it's worth exploring both areas in a day to see the contrast between cultures – truly representing the "melting pot" that makes up Singapore. You may find it interesting to also check out Telok Ayer Street – or "Harmony Street" on the way. On this street you can see the religious harmony that exists within Singapore, with a short 350m stretch of road featuring several major places of worship – a mosque, Indian Muslim shrine, Chinese temple and church – where they have resided for more than 100 years. Head to colourful Haji Lane for art, independent boutiques and global eats Haji Lane is considered Singapore's coolest indie street and this vibrant alley is packed with indie shops and boutiques, street art and vibrant murals, quirky cafes and lively bars. It's perfect to visit day or night, but be sure to learn about the rich history of the area within Kampong Gelam. [Haji Lane](https://visitkamponggelam.com.sg/haji-lane/) was once used by Aram pilgrim-brokers to house Muslims on their spiritual journey to Mecca, then later in the 1960's and 70's the area provided a home for poor Malay families before being brought back to life at the turn of the Millenium. Swim at East Coast Park's beach & play areas If you're travelling with children, East Coast Park is a great place to visit with a man-made beach, waterslides, indoor and outdoor play areas to explore. It's also a great place for a picnic on a sunny day with lots of shaded areas and parkland, and the beach which stretched several kilometres. Explore Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site – Singapore Botanic Gardens It would be rude to visit "The Garden City" of Singapore and not pay a visit to the [Singapore Botanic Gardens](https://www.nparks.gov.sg/SBG) – the country's first [UNESCO World Heritage Site](https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1483/). The gardens are free to enter (with some sections such as the [Orchid House available to enter for a small fee](https://klook.tpk.lv/iMhou1Gu)). As you wander the leafy trails, you’ll stumble across original gun pits, hidden underground chambers, and even a powerful re-creation of the 1942 surrender that shaped Singapore’s history. It’s the kind of place that feels equal parts history lesson and adventure. Watch the light show at Marina Bay Singapore loves putting on a show to welcome visitors and lucky for the budget-conscious traveller, they're FREE to enjoy! Every evening you can enjoy a 15-minute [Spectra](https://www.marinabaysands.com/attractions/spectra.html) show with projections, lasers and dancing fountains every evening on the waterfront in front of Marina Bay Sands. Shows are at 8pm and 9pm, with an additional show at 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Top tip – if you watch the 8pm Spectra show, you can wander over to Gardens by the Bay afterwards to catch the 8.45pm Garden Rhapsody light show at the Supertree Grove\! Visit Joo Chiat and the prettiest street in Singapore Think pastel-perfect shophouses, rainbow facades, and the kind of street that makes you want to stop every two seconds for photos. Joo Chiat is hands down one of the most charming spots in Singapore and perfect for a slow wander if you love pretty corners and culture mixed together. From local bands to traditional dance, it’s the perfect way to dip into Singapore’s creative scene without spending a cent. Walk along the historic Singapore River Take a slow stroll along the river and you’ll walk past the very streets where Singapore first began as a trading port. These days the old godowns and warehouses are home to chic cafes and bars, but the history still lingers in the bridges and colonial architecture. It’s weird, fascinating, and completely free—making it the kind of place you’ll still be talking about long after your trip. Changi Point Coastal Walk Another FREE hiking trail, this time following the beautiful coastline of Singapore with amazing views and wildlife to spot. The Changi Point Coastal Walk is a 2.2km, 45-minute easy boardwalk with six sections, Creek Walk, Beach Walk, Sailing Point Walk, Cliff Walk, Kelong Walk and Sunset Walk.
