| Boilerpipe Text | How do I find my device’s IP address?
The IP address shown at the top of this page is your public IP address,
assigned by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and used when you access
websites or online services.
If you’re looking for your local or private IP address, the steps depend
on the device you’re using:
Find your IP address on Windows
Find your IP address on Mac
Find your IP address on iPhone
Find your IP address on iPad
Why is the location shown different?
IP-based locations are estimates, not GPS coordinates.
IP address location
data is based on network routing.
How accurate is IP location?
IP geolocation is generally accurate at the country level and less reliable at the city level.
Why does my ISP look unfamiliar?
The
ISP
shown may be a parent or backbone provider.
Why do I see both IPv4 and IPv6?
Many networks support both
IPv4
and IPv6.
Should I worry about IPv6?
No. IPv6 is simply a newer protocol.
Is IPv6 more private?
IPv6 is not automatically more private than IPv4.
Can someone find my exact home address using my IP address?

An
IP address location lookup
provides only approximate geographic information.
Can a hacker get into my computer just because they know my IP address?
Simply knowing an IP address does not give someone access to a computer.
Modern routers and firewalls provide built-in IP
security
by blocking unsolicited connections by default.
What happens if someone gets my IP address?
In most cases, nothing harmful happens. Someone with your IP address may see your general location or ISP,
but they can’t access your device or personal data.

💡 Understanding Your IP Address
An
IP address
(Internet Protocol address) is a unique identifier assigned to your internet connection that allows websites and apps to send information back to you. The address shown at the top of this page is your public IP address, assigned by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). A public IP identifies your network on the internet, while a
private IP address
is used only within a local network, such as your home or office. In most cases, a public IP address identifies an entire network rather than a single device connected to it.
Most internet users are assigned a dynamic IP address. This means your IP can change over time rather than remaining permanently fixed.
Static IP addresses
are available from some Internet Service Providers (ISPs), but they are less common for residential connections.
Will my IP stay the same?
In most cases, no. Residential internet connections typically use dynamic IP addressing, which allows the ISP to rotate or reassign IP addresses as needed.
Why does my IP change?
Your IP address may change when you restart your modem or router, when your ISP refreshes its network assignments, or when you connect to a different network such as Wi-Fi at another location.
Why does my IP change on mobile?
Mobile devices frequently switch between cellular towers, Wi-Fi networks, and carrier routing systems. Each network assigns its own public IP address, which can cause your visible IP to change more often.
